Chapter 653 A lucky escape

"Sorry, I just caught it and it hit the ground," Li Gangtie said, rubbing his nose.

Yuan Jiasi didn't mind, "It's okay, it's just too heavy, that's normal."

After discussing it, the group decided to take a safer approach to going out.

Shen Yanming, realizing his arm no longer hurt, decided to take the lead and jump down to help them.

Ke Yu Shui grabbed Lao Shen: "What are you showing off for? Don't you want your arm?"

Shen Yanming stopped trying to be clever and said with a smile, "Didn't you say I'm an outstanding student? Shouldn't I set an example?"

"You should know where you're going to show off! Alright, alright, I know you're great, but don't brag again next time!"

As Yu Shui spoke, he braced his arms against the hole and stretched his long legs into it. Then, ready, he jumped to the ground.

Inevitably, I also bent over. I rubbed my foot for a long time before it recovered.

"Alright, one at a time, come down slowly," Li Gangtie said, head held high.

The three nodded, starting with Yuan Jiasi, then Chen Qing, and finally Shen Yanming. Each of them was lowered into the air and then half-carried down to the ground by the people below.

The people behind them had it much easier, as they didn't even have to squat down. After a few moments of adjustment, they walked out of the cave.

The group was stunned; there was no snow on the ground outside! Yu Shui exclaimed, "Could the avalanche really be that big?"

No one answered, because no one had expected it. The mountains outside weren't high; who could have imagined that the snow would just slide down so quickly?

"Alright, stop standing there, let's hurry back. There's no snow on the road, so it'll be easier to walk, won't it?" Li Gangtie said with a smile.

Everyone nodded and quickly started looking for directions.

They had been wandering in the mountains for so long that they had long lost their sense of direction and had no idea where they were.

This is where Li Gangtie's professionalism came into play. After a brief assessment, he chose a direction and led everyone to find their way back.

On the way here, although we were inside the mountains, we didn't take too many detours. But on the way back, it was a different story.

The route involved going uphill and downhill, and occasionally we'd take the wrong turn and run into a ditch, forcing us to detour. We didn't return to Sigou Village until it got dark.

In other words, Chen Qing and Yu Shui had food in their bags, so they could eat something to replenish their energy when they were hungry or tired. As for Li Gangtie and Yuan Jiasi, they could only watch.

Li Gangtie was overconfident, always believing he could find food in any environment, which is why he didn't take things seriously. But now, the situation hasn't given him a chance to demonstrate his abilities.

Hara Yoshitsugu had no such awareness at all.

Shen Yanming had plenty of things in his spatial storage, but nobody's a fool; one's food supply can't be indefinite. So, after giving the two of them two pieces of chocolate, he stayed and endured the hunger.

However, he was doing alright. He would occasionally put a piece of milk candy in his mouth without chewing it, just holding it there.

The group was so focused on walking that they didn't notice his little actions. But even if they were discovered, it wouldn't matter.

It's already quite generous of people to share some of their food; are we not allowed to keep some for ourselves? Right?

When Li Gangtie returned to the village with his men, they found it very quiet and didn't see anyone after visiting several houses.

I finally found out what happened at Aunt Yanfang's house.

"Are you all alright? Where are the others? Haven't they come back yet?" Aunt Yanfang asked in surprise.

Li Gangtie didn't answer, but instead asked, "Where are they?"

"They heard that you and your companions were buried in the snow, so they went to rescue you, and all the villagers went too. Weren't you rescued by them? Then how did you escape danger?" Aunt Yanfang asked briefly.

Li Gangtie nodded. "We were lucky. We weren't buried. We found a path and escaped."

He didn't say anything specific, but after greeting Aunt Yanfang, he led his men to the bottom of the ditch.

At the scene of the accident, a group of people were shoveling snow with sorrowful expressions.

Li Gangtie was moved to tears and shouted, "Brothers, I'm here!"

Those who were bending over to work thought they were hallucinating, but when they looked up, they saw that it was indeed the five familiar people.

One by one, they dropped their tools and ran away, then hugged several people and wept bitterly.

Shen Yanming and the others were alright; a few familiar faces came over to hug each other, playfully punch each other, and occasionally wipe their eyes.

Li Gangtie was in a different state; the guard, who had been worried all day, clung to him, wiping his tears and snot directly onto his neck and clothes.

"Alright, alright, we're all fine now. We're lucky we weren't buried," Li Gangtie said with a smile.

But the others weren't comforted at all. They sobbed and said, "Boss, we're all afraid you'll die. Don't they say that people buried in snow will soon suffer from oxygen deprivation or hypothermia? We're really afraid we won't be able to rescue you."

"Yeah, boss, aren't you guys supposed to work here? Why did you come back from somewhere else?"

Li Gangtie chuckled and said, "I'm very lucky. I reacted quickly during the avalanche and escaped. Later, I found a small path and circled around most of the mountain before coming back. Thank you all for your hard work and for being so worried here."

"It's alright, it's alright, as long as you and your brothers are alright." Everyone present smiled with joy.

"Alright, it's getting late, let's hurry back. Everyone should get some rest and avoid catching a cold."

The group walked back in high spirits, and only then did Shen Yanming and Li Gangtie realize that they had left their tools in the cave.

Sigh, forget it, it's too much trouble to dig now. I just estimated that the snow is at least four or five meters deep.

It's mixed with stones and dead wood, and it's quite compacted, making it difficult to handle. I'll wait until the snow melts in spring before coming back to collect it.

or......

Li Gangtie made up his mind, but said nothing.

As soon as the group entered the village, they encountered the rescue team.

When the two groups met, they were both a little confused.

"Captain Li, you're out!" The person reporting back to the guard team and requesting rescue was both surprised and delighted.

Li Gangtie nodded. "Luckily, I was just lucky!"

Then he nodded to the comrades who came to his rescue and briefly explained the situation.

They only said that when they discovered the falling snow and rolling stones, they hid and took a long detour before returning. Because they couldn't contact each other, this misunderstanding occurred.

Li Gangtie blinked rapidly, almost like he was having a fit. Captain Liang, sitting opposite him, nodded with a smile, indicating he understood.

After listening for a while, Yuan Jiasi realized that Captain Li hadn't mentioned the secret passage or the treasure inside. He assumed that the other party was also tempted and wanted to take it for himself, which was why he deliberately didn't mention it.

While feeling contempt, I was also secretly relieved.

It's good that you don't mention it; if you don't mention it, you'll have a chance to steal it back. You just need to be one step ahead of the other side.

Then he looked warily at Shen Yanming and the others, seeing that they looked normal and showed no signs of greed, and he was unsure of what they were thinking.

Is it because they've seen too many good things that they're no longer interested?

Yuan Jiasi felt a pang of sadness and a strange feeling in his heart.
