Qiu Man stuffed the glass jar into his clothes and hid like a thief, taking fifteen minutes to finally run into General Li's office.
"What, no one's here?" Chief Li glanced at him and asked.
"Well, he said..." Qiu Man explained briefly, "Perhaps your status is too high, and he can't handle it."
Li Zongmengguan smiled and shook his head: "He just wants to lie low. He's clearly quite strong, but he just doesn't want to take the lead."
Qiu Man placed the honey on the desk. "He picked this from the tree yesterday, saying it was a gift for you to help you recover." Qiu Man completely ignored himself. "And those smoked meats and dried goods, I saw them, quite a lot."
"He's certainly willing to spend that much."
Qiu Man nodded. "He said he traded it up north, got quite a lot, and gave us half of it."
General Li picked up the bottle and looked at it. The golden honey looked very tempting. "That's thoughtful of you."
Qiu Man hesitated for a moment, "How about we have the medical staff test it?"
"No need for that. He has no conflict of interest with the alliance or with you and me, so what bad intentions could he possibly have?"
Qiu Man still felt they should be cautious, and Li Zongmengguan, seeing he couldn't dissuade him, went along with it.
"Then you'd better keep a close eye on them and not let others take them all. As for the smoked meat and dried goods, send them to the cafeteria to supplement everyone's meals."
Qiu Man's smile froze on his face. He touched his nose and said, "Oh dear, why don't I try it?" He was sure that if anyone else saw this thing, it would definitely be divided up.
General Li pointed with his finger: "You, go get the cup!"
Qiu Man gave a fawning smile and ran away in a flash.
At that moment, a family of four in the hotel had just checked in and entered their room.
Although the pre-apocalyptic decor looked somewhat dated, it was still incredibly luxurious. An'an's warm little eyes darted around, finding everything fascinating.
“Mom, this room is better than the previous one,” Nuannuan concluded.
An'an nodded in agreement, "Beautiful!"
Bi Qiaoan explained to them what the hotel was for, and then said with some regret, "It's just that they no longer provide catering services here, otherwise our family of four could have had a delicious meal."
The two kids didn't really understand the situation outside, so they had no idea why their food standards kept dropping whenever they were away from home.
However, they both knew that Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan could get food from dreams, so they never made a fuss.
The two little ones toured the balcony and bathroom before taking a bath with their parents' help. Dressed in their clean pajamas, they fell asleep instantly in bed.
Shen Yanming was also a little tired, so he quickly took a shower and went to bed.
Bi Qiaoan really wanted to take a bath, but it wasn't very convenient outside. So she quickly washed up and went to sleep on the other side.
The two little babies separated the couple, and the fatigue of the past few days also suppressed Shen Yanming's restless heart.
"Let's just go to sleep. Once we get back, we can do whatever we want, right?" Shen Yanming thought to himself as he looked at Bi Qiaoan, who was separated from him by "thousands of miles".
Bi Qiaoan, who had already fallen into a light sleep, suddenly turned over. Completely unaware that she had been targeted by a certain big bad wolf.
The next day, the couple got up slowly, had breakfast, and then drove to Yangyi Island.
They had planned it all out; they arrived just in time for low tide, so they could take their baby beachcombing.
Unexpectedly, they were terrified by the beach on Yangyi Island.
That sand in the distance isn't the sea at all, it's a continental shelf! The continental shelf protrudes above the sea, and people treat it as land, living and working on it.
The two children thought that the ocean was like this, and they shouted "Ah ah!" and tried to rush forward.
Shen Yanming stopped one of them with each hand and asked a young man walking down the ditch, "Hey buddy, what's going on here?"
The young man looked them up and down before smiling and saying, "You're from out of town, aren't you? Locals couldn't possibly not know this."
Shen Yanming didn't hide anything and nodded. Seeing that the other person was about to leave, he quickly grabbed him, took a pack of cigarettes from the car, and stuffed it into the man's hand: "Can you tell me?"
The young man quickly stuffed the items into his pocket, looked around, and only said when he was sure no one was paying attention: "Since last year, the seawater has been receding, and it's been getting faster and faster, exposing the trench."
Shen Yanming felt a little panicked. "Why haven't I seen these news reports online?"
The young man chuckled, "The higher-ups said they were afraid of causing panic and unrest, so they blocked the relevant information. If you hadn't come here, you probably wouldn't have known."
"Is no one going to take care of this?" Shen Yanming thought that the alliance shouldn't be indifferent.
The young man smiled wryly: "Yes, experts have come in waves, but what's the use? They can't restore the seawater to normal."
Shen Yanming took a deep breath: "Does the transformation of the ocean affect your lives?"
"Yes, it used to be easy to get some seafood, but now, well, not many people dare to go out to sea. Do you see those little black dots? They're the ones that can't survive and have to fight for their lives underwater."
Shen Yanming glanced into the distance and saw several cruise ships floating far on the sea.
"You guys should leave quickly, it's dangerous here. We wouldn't survive if we left, we might even end up inland." The young man said before leaving.
Shen Yanming didn't chase after them. He drove to a nearby village, traded two catties of wood ear fungus for a room, and inquired about some things along the way.
"Beachcombing? Beachcombing is over. The seawater doesn't even reach the beach anymore. You can only pick up fish and shrimp in the ditches. But it's too far and not safe. It's best not to go."
Every household has stocked up on seafood, but no one dares to sell it, fearing they won't have anything to eat later.
Shen Yanming then asked, "Besides the receding seawater, are there any other anomalies on our side? Or, has the receding seawater caused any other disasters?"
"No, it's still the same as always. It's just that the ocean, which has been there for generations, has a problem. It's unsettling to look at."
Shen Yanming got what he wanted to know, and then traded the smoked meat and dried mushrooms in the car for a lot of kelp and seaweed before he and Bi Qiaoan took the two children to the beach.
"Although we can't let them experience the ebb and flow of the tide, getting this information makes the trip worthwhile." Shen Yanming ruffled the hair of his two darlings. "Let's treat today as a trip to play in the sand, and while we're at it, let's see a not-so-authentic sunset over the sea."
Bi Qiaoan had no objection to this, and was even thinking to herself whether she should smuggle some sea sand into the space later.
In fact, Shen Yanming had also thought of these things. While the two children were having a great time playing, he kept moving around and collected a pile of inconspicuous and unknown sand into his space.
Then, glancing at the distant sea, somewhat unwilling, he said to Bi Qiaoan, "I want to go down and take a look. Don't worry, nothing will happen."
