Bi Qiaoan, holding her two babies, had already drifted off to sleep, while Shen Yanming was still on his way to the beach.
It's true what they say, "Looking at the mountain makes your horse run itself to death," and he was starting to regret not having prepared a means of transportation.
However, on the other hand, it's quite unique that he was the only one cycling while everyone else was walking.
Even relying on his own two legs, he is still the most unique one.
Everyone else was heading back, but he walked towards the sea.
Someone on the road advised him, "Brother, don't go any further, go back quickly. There's no one there at night, it's scary."
"Yes, it takes several hours to walk there, and you're still on the road when it's completely dark. Plus, there are no supplies, so you'll be tired and hungry halfway there and never reach the end."
"Yes, it's windy and chilly at night. Your clothes aren't warm enough, so don't catch a cold."
After sincerely thanking everyone for their kindness, Shen Yanming continued walking forward. He had his own space and supplies; what they were talking about was not a problem for him at all.
But the people didn't realize that their good intentions were being taken for granted, and they cursed inwardly, "Idiots!"
Shen Yanming was unaware of their thoughts. As he strode forward, he felt the salty, damp sea breeze. It was chilly, and the wind blowing against his skin gave him goosebumps.
Shen Yanming rubbed his arms and slowed his pace. The moon had already risen, and by its light, he could see the increasingly uneven stone path beneath his feet.
Looking into the distance, the sea level was still far away. Shen Yanming silently recited in his heart: "Black mud, white stones, reflective water."
There were no pedestrians around him anymore, and the sea breeze was howling, giving off a feeling of ghosts wailing and wolves howling. He was a little tired, so he sat down on the cold stone, took out a small bread from his spatial storage, ate it in a few bites, and then drank a few sips of hot milk.
Looking at the time, Shen Yanming realized he had been walking for five hours. Gazing at the starry sky, he couldn't understand how those people managed to make the round trip every day.
What he didn't know was that people who survive at sea don't travel back and forth every day, but rather take turns every week. Otherwise, the time wasted on the round trip would be enough for them to go out to sea, which wouldn't be worthwhile.
Shen Yanming felt the temperature getting lower and lower. He looked around and saw that he was the only one in the dark environment, so he took out a thick coat from his backpack and put it on.
He tried to ignore the fear emanating from his surroundings and kept walking. When he got tired, he would sit down and rest for a while.
Shen Yanming thought to himself that perhaps the changes in the ocean had not yet reached their peak, otherwise the exposed continental shelf would not be so small, allowing them to still walk and live on it.
Shen Yanming walked on step by step until the east began to lighten, and then he heard the sound of waves crashing against the rocks.
He smiled slightly; it was finally time.
But joy turned to sorrow, and without paying attention, he fell into a pit. Shen Yanming never expected that he would overturn and fall into a crevice formed by several stones.
The bottom of the pit was filled with water and sand, and there were a few small fish, so it wasn't particularly dangerous. However, it was only two or three meters from the entrance, and an ordinary person might not be able to get up there. They also had to contend with the approaching high tide; if seawater flooded in, they would surely die.
Shen Yanming was once again grateful that he had a spatial ability. He took out a flashlight and checked the cave. After finding nothing of value, he released a small staircase and easily climbed out of the pit.
Shen Yanming sat down at the cave entrance, emptied the seawater and mud from his shoes, and then put away the ladder. After drinking two mouthfuls of spiritual spring water, he continued on his way.
However, he was more careful this time, shining a flashlight carefully on the rock.
After walking for another half hour, Shen Yanming finally reached the seawater. The east was tinged with a rosy hue, and the sun seemed ready to leap out of the water in the blink of an eye.
"We've finally arrived!" Shen Yanming exclaimed, a happy smile spreading across his face. He sat down by the sea, dipped his hand into the water, and felt the coolness of the seawater.
"How wonderful!" The seawater swayed gently, flowing over his fingertips; it felt so comfortable. In the light of the rising sun, Shen Yanming saw tiny fish, about an inch long, swimming around.
Try to draw the seawater into space and then bind it with your consciousness. You'll see that it quietly curls up into a ball and doesn't move at all.
Shen Yanming was surprised; he hadn't expected that liquids in his spatial storage could be stored this way. He reached into the seawater and collected at least ten tons, intending to retrieve them for experiments. Or perhaps he should just store them in his spatial storage; he didn't know what use they would be.
Suddenly, a ship's horn sounded in the distance. Shen Yanming saw a cargo ship getting closer and closer, preparing to dock.
Well, my plan to use the space to go back has completely fallen through. I guess I'll just have to walk this far again.
As the cargo ship drew closer, Shen Yanming instinctively backed away. He later realized that with such a long coastline, the ship might not even dock right next to him.
So he waited quietly until half an hour later, when the cargo ship stopped about two kilometers to his right.
Shen Yanming thought for a moment and decided to go and join in the fun. He walked carefully on the bumpy stone road, and when he got to the cargo ship, he saw them unloading boxes of seafood.
Shen Yanming stepped forward and asked, "Excuse me, are these seafood items for sale?"
The crew had noticed Shen Yanming while they were still on the ship. They had been wondering why some idiot would be sitting by the sea so early in the morning, wondering if he hadn't gone home all night. Little did they know, he had come specifically to ambush them and buy seafood.
The probability of this happening is not nonexistent, but it is extremely low. Since sea levels dropped, no ordinary person has dared to approach the sea.
So when asked, the crew member hesitated for a moment before saying, "You'll have to ask our boss."
Shen Yanming nodded: "Then may I ask, where is your boss?"
The crew looked around and, seeing that their leader hadn't disembarked, called a companion to take Shen Yanming aboard to look for him.
They easily found Captain Luo Tongzhi in the bridge.
Shen Yanming got straight to the point, asking if he could buy seafood.
Luo Tongzhi didn't mince words, saying directly, "Seventy percent of our harvest will go to the guard team, twenty percent to major distributors in the city, and the rest will belong to individuals. What belongs to individuals can be sold, but I only accept exchanges. So, would you still buy?"
Shen Yanming nodded. He had noticed on the way that people processed most of their goods into dried goods, which could be preserved for a long time.
"I have some mountain produce, including wood ear fungus, silver ear fungus, mushrooms, and chestnuts. Do you need any of these?"
Luo Tongzhi was somewhat disappointed to hear there was no food, but he still asked, unwilling to give up, "Is there no rice or wheat flour?"
Shen Yanming shook his head, "Those are all at home, I didn't bring them."
Luo Tongzhi's eyes lit up. "Can I go home and get it? I'll wait for you here."
