"Mom, what's wrong?" An'an asked, looking bewildered.
Bi Qiaoan gave an awkward laugh, "Honey, Mommy suddenly remembered something. How about we don't go over there? It smells bad anyway, so there probably won't be anything good there."
An'an nodded: "Okay, so where do we go next?"
"Let's go back to where we used to be. Grandpa Fang and Grandma Fang are here, along with a few uncles and aunts, so it shouldn't be too boring."
An An agreed, but said, "If there are too many people, we won't be able to eat the good food."
Bi Qiaoan tugged at An'an's chubby little face and laughed, "Would Mommy let you go hungry? We'll wait until everyone falls asleep and then eat secretly."
An'an wanted to say that she would be hungry during the day. But when she compared her situation with that of others, she felt content.
He smiled sweetly and said, "Thank you, Mom!"
The mother and daughter turned away from the place. After walking for several hours, exhausted and hungry, they finally returned to their original spot.
Grandpa and Grandma Fang lay on the ground, their faces flushed. The bearded man, the second-in-command, and Che Cunzhou were already dead. The whereabouts of the others were unknown.
Bi Qiaoan smelled the familiar stench and quickly covered An'an's eyes, telling him to turn around: "Baby, don't look."
An'an didn't understand, but she still obediently turned around.
Big Beard and his gang must have been dead not long ago. Although their deaths were gruesome, they were still within acceptable limits.
Bi Qiaoan regretted burying the three of them here; it was such a pollution. But she didn't dare touch the dead bodies; she was too timid.
Yes, this contradictory creature was actually trembling with fear at the sight of three heads reeking of decay. It's only because they were just beginning to decompose; if they were infested with maggots, Bi Qiaoan would probably have fainted on the spot.
She forced herself not to look at the three faintly rotting heads, walked over to Grandpa Fang and Grandma Fang, and reached out to touch their foreheads. She found them very hot, probably around forty degrees Celsius.
"Uncle Fang, Aunt Fang?" Bi Qiaoan nudged the two of them, but the old couple didn't budge.
She sighed, took two pills out of her bag and fed them to the two of them, then took out a bottle of diluted spiritual spring water and fed it to them as well.
Bi Qiaoan was a little scared of the environment, so she pulled An'an away temporarily to the place where she had sown the seeds.
Because of the rain, the plants here are growing very well. The wheat and corn seedlings are already twenty centimeters tall, and the lychee seedlings have grown eight to ten leaves. The wild vegetables are growing in clumps, quite vigorously. As for the mushrooms, they are growing in large patches.
Bi Qiaoan picked a lot, and then took some from her spatial storage to mix with it.
She carried a bag full of wild mushrooms and vegetables, had a good lunch with An'an, and then went back to see Grandpa Fang and Grandma Fang.
After the elderly couple took the medicine, their fever gradually subsided. Grandma Fang groggily opened her eyes and saw Bi Qiaoan carrying An'an towards her.
That design is quite unique.
An'an was holding a plastic bag, and a silk scarf was covering her eyes. Bi Qiao'an smiled at them from afar, and only asked when she got closer, "How are you? Feeling better?"
Aunt Fang thought she was hallucinating. Her voice was hoarse and trembling: "Qiao, Qiao An, when did you come back?"
"You just got back today. What happened to you? You're lying on the ground, burning up with fever. Where are the others? We haven't seen them at all!"
Aunt Fang was still a little dazed. She looked around and when she saw the three round lumps that were emitting a foul odor and beginning to rot, she screamed, "Ah!"
Caught off guard, Bi Qiaoan and An'an both jumped in surprise.
"Mom?" An'an was blindfolded and already lacked a sense of security. This fright almost made her cry.
Bi Qiaoan quickly patted his back to comfort him: "Don't be afraid, baby, Mommy's here. Grandma Fang has a fever, she's hallucinating."
Aunt Fang then realized she had lost her composure and stiffly said, "Yes, Grandma just woke up and was dizzy and confused. She must have seen wrong."
Grandpa Fang was also awakened by the scream. He opened his eyes and grabbed his wife's hand: "Aying, are we still alive?"
Grandma Fang nodded, her voice choked with emotion, and said, "Yes, he's still alive."
Grandpa Fang sighed, "I never thought we'd actually make it through."
"Yes, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. We survived thanks to Joanne. She's back, look."
Grandpa Fang smiled at Bi Qiaoan: "Miss, thank you for troubling me again."
Bi Qiaoan waved her hand: "No, no, you guys got through it all. I only gave you a couple of sips of water."
"That's not bad either." Grandpa Fang forced a smile. "It's better than them giving up on us completely."
Bi Qiaoan sat down on the ground and asked the elderly couple, "What exactly happened? Where are the people here?"
Grandpa and Grandma Fang didn't hide anything and told them what happened after the rain: "Hou Yongzhi went crazy. They said we should go to Big Beard's territory to take shelter from the rain, but I couldn't walk because I twisted my ankle, so I didn't go. Your aunt stayed here with me, got caught in the rain and developed a fever. We were both unconscious for a few days."
"What, you didn't run into them?"
Bi Qiaoan shook her head: "The place is too big, I didn't run into them. I saw it was raining outside, so I stayed hidden and didn't come out. I finally came back today, only to find that everyone was gone."
"They've probably moved to a different location."
Bi Qiaoan nodded, seemingly unconcerned. However, she added, "Can you walk now, sir? The environment here is really not good."
Grandpa Fang looked puzzled when he heard this. The environment was still the same as before, so why did it become bad after it rained?
Aunt Fang, pale-faced, helped the old man up and scolded him, "Just go when I tell you to. Why are you so curious?"
"Oh, oh!" Grandpa Fang felt guilty and didn't dare to argue with his wife. With Grandma Fang's help, he slowly got up.
She took two steps forward and exclaimed in surprise, "I never expected that my ankle would be healed after being dizzy for two days! This is so lucky!"
Bi Qiaoan smiled but didn't say anything. She thought to herself that if she hadn't come back, these two would have been burned to death, or at least become mentally impaired.
After hearing this, Aunt Fang pinched Uncle Fang's lower back: "Don't forget the pain once the wound has healed. You must remember how you got this injury."
Grandpa Fang quickly smiled apologetically, "I know, I know, I won't be a pushover anymore." After walking about two or three hundred meters, he asked in a low voice, "What happened to that place? Why did you leave in such a hurry?"
Bi Qiaoan asked with a smile, "Grandpa, didn't you smell a stench just now?"
Grandpa Fang thought for a moment: "It seems like it is, but it also seems like it isn't, I can't remember. But since you asked, it means it is. It was perfectly fine over there, how did it suddenly become smelly?"
Bi Qiaoan was somewhat embarrassed. Although she had already foreseen the fate of the three men, she still pretended to be innocent: "I left early that day and didn't know what happened later. But when I went back, I found that the three bearded men were already dead. Even their bodies were rotting."
