Li Sikai smiled and waved his hand: "Take it and do it."
Bi Qiaoan carried An'an over and asked in a low voice, "Why did you take so long?" From morning till night, the sun was almost setting.
Li Sikai looked around and saw that no one was there. He then glanced at An'an and saw his big eyes darting around.
Bi Qiaoan immediately understood and sent An'an to wait with Ji Kangyong. Upon returning, she heard Li Sikai ask, "Are those the only three people eating people here?"
“Not only that, the entire eastern part is filled with people who have eaten humans,” Bi Qiaoan said without hiding anything.
Li Sikai breathed a sigh of relief and said in a low voice, "The people over there are all dead. It looks like they got some kind of plague."
Bi Qiaoan was surprised, thinking to herself, "I only administered a drug. Could it be that the symptoms look like I'm sick?"
But she didn't dare say it, only nodded: "This is retribution."
Li Sikai hummed in agreement: "I'm just worried the disease will spread. We can't delay, let's leave first thing tomorrow morning."
Bi Qiaoan nodded and asked, "Okay, should we remind them?"
Although she knew it was probably not an epidemic, what if something unexpected happened? Besides, she couldn't let her gentle and kind image crumble.
"Let's tell the truth, otherwise, I'm afraid they'll stay here and refuse to leave." It's true the roads outside are difficult to travel, and the hidden risks are real. Not everyone is willing to join the guard team at a time like this.
"By the way, there's a group of emaciated people in the south, they..."
Bi Qiaoan thought for a moment: "I heard that a group of people refused to eat people and ran away. It might be those people."
Li Sikai smiled and said, "Well, I'm glad I didn't help the wrong person."
In the evening, Huo Zhongli called everyone to dinner. There was a shortage of tableware, so everyone shared what they had.
Li Sikai politely declined, saying, "We've already eaten out, you guys go ahead and eat."
"Wow, you guys are so kind! Not only do you not eat our rice, but you even bring us wild vegetables."
"Exactly, exactly! You guys are so kind. If we had teammates as good as you all earlier, we wouldn't have had to go hungry!"
Listening to everyone's praise, Li Sikai felt a warm glow spread through his body, and waves of faith surged into his mind. He just wondered when the space would be upgraded.
He took a lunchbox out of his backpack and gestured for Bi Qiaoan to hide in a corner to eat.
Bi Qiaoan accepted the lunchbox without hesitation and led An'an away. The two opened the lunchbox and, seeing it filled with white rice, wild vegetables, and eggs, were moved to tears.
She and An'an had plenty of food, but for the past two days, they had been secretly eating candy, chocolate, and dried meat, and hadn't had a proper meal.
“Come on, baby, let’s try your Uncle Li’s cooking.” Bi Qiaoan joked, taking a spoonful of food and feeding it to An’an.
The little guy drooled as he put it in his mouth, chewed it a couple of times, and looked at Bi Qiaoan with a complicated expression.
"What's wrong, darling?" Bi Qiaoan looked at the little hamster's chubby cheeks and thought they were extremely cute, so she couldn't help but poke them.
An'an pouted, not daring to spit it out. After finally swallowing it, she said, "It doesn't taste good."
Bi Qiaoan chuckled, took a spoonful to taste it, and almost spat it out.
This is...this is awful! The rice is undercooked, and the wild vegetables are turned into a paste. I don't even know how much salt and vinegar they added; it's bitter, astringent, salty, and sour all at once.
"No wonder they made me cook," Bi Qiaoan muttered, then began to eat heartily.
An'an is too young to eat such strong-flavored foods. She left the egg for him and ate the rest herself.
After the two finished eating, Bi Qiaoan quietly asked An'an, "Are you full? Do you want to eat some more?"
An'an nodded: "I'm still a little hungry."
Bi Qiaoan glanced around and, seeing that the crowd was still far away, quickly took out a small bun from her spatial storage and used her body to shield An'an from view so she could eat it quickly.
The little guy grinned like a mouse stealing oil, his eyes crinkling with delight. After finishing his meal, he even breathed out a couple of puffs of air, asking his mother to smell it to see if it smelled.
By the time the mother and son returned, it was completely dark. Li Sikai asked sheepishly, "Was it not good?"
Bi Qiaoan smiled and said, "It's alright."
"Don't hold back for me. Among us, only Old Ji has decent skills, but even he did it today. He said your skills are good, so I'll be relying on you from now on," Li Sikai said, cupping his hands in a respectful gesture.
Bi Qiaoan nodded: "No problem."
After finishing the meal, Li Sikai said to everyone with a serious expression, "Everyone in the east has died suddenly. We suspect there is an epidemic there. For everyone's sake, let's leave as soon as possible."
Huo Zhongli asked incredulously, "Really? Wu Haipeng is dead?"
"Who is Wu Haipeng?" Li Sikai asked subconsciously, then realized the question was pointless and said, "There are dozens of corpses over there, and we can't identify them."
It was only then that he remembered he hadn't dealt with the smart bracelet.
However, once the person dies, the smart bracelet becomes useless. Even if someone picks it up, without fingerprints, it's just an ornament.
“Wu Haipeng is their new boss, and he’s incredibly ruthless. But that’s not important now.” Huo Zhongli scratched his head. “Big brother, when are you leaving? Can we go with you?”
Facing the intense gazes around him, Li Sikai felt a bit pressured and could only try to explain, "We're not going to the guard team; we still need to find someone."
"Where are you going to look? We brothers will go with you. These days, if you're out alone, what if you get robbed or kidnapped?"
Huo Zhongli's concerns were not unfounded, but he was facing several men with explosive fighting skills.
Li Sikai thanked him gratefully, but still declined, saying, "I don't know the exact location, but I'm sure it's very far. If you come with me, it will slow down our progress. If possible, we should head to the guard team as soon as possible. Trust me, arriving early will be advantageous."
Huo Zhongli blinked: "Really?"
"That's a must! Think about it, the city needs to be rebuilt, and rebuilding requires people. Although there are many guards, they all have their own jobs to do. So, the people who come to seek refuge are the ones who will rebuild the city."
If you arrive early, you'll get work, and only with work will you get food. If you do nothing, you'll starve. The guards won't support idlers.
Huo Zhongli nodded, able to deduce something from the previous actions of the alliance and the guard team. Although unwilling, he dared not waste any more time.
The others, too, were convinced by Li Sikai's perfect reasoning. They looked forward to the future, hoping to regain a better life through their own hard work.
"Go to sleep early, we're leaving tomorrow. We'll meet again someday."
"Alright, thanks a lot, bro!"
The men present didn't seem to mind being rejected. They figured they couldn't work together because they were on different paths, so they didn't force it.
The girls exchanged glances, wanting to try again.
"Brother, could you take me with you? I promise I won't hold you back," Wen Bingxue said softly as she walked over.
