Chapter 867 Bitten by a Snake

Yu Murong smiled and politely declined, saying, "Commander Wen has already made arrangements. We can just make do in the conference room for the night."

"Alright, I won't keep you any longer. Tomorrow... it won't be convenient for me to see you off, so I won't be there."

"I understand, no need to see me off. It's getting late, you should get some rest."

Shen Yanming nodded: "Take care!"

After seeing the person off, the couple turned off the lights and went back to their room to sleep.

Unbeknownst to them, after Yu Murong returned to the capital and reported to Li Sikai, the two jars of honey were immediately divided up by the big shots.

They each made themselves a cup of strong honey water and drank it all in one gulp. After drinking it, they felt warm in their stomachs and their bodies felt much more relaxed.

So they sent the guards to search for a beehive in the wild. They finally found one and put it into their space to keep. But the honey they received each time was never as good as this one.

Li Zongmengguan wanted to call Shen Yanming and ask him to help find some honey, but he was too embarrassed to say so because he thought about how hard life was for the people below.

Of course, that's a story for another time.

In Shanghai, after learning that Yu Murong had left, Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan took their tools and left the guard team to farm.

The tools were salvaged from last year's scavenging; they were about 70% new and sufficient. The two of them, along with An'an and Nuannuan, explained the situation to the guard in charge and were assigned a fairly large plot of land.

The land looks alright, though it's overgrown with weeds and has a lot of stones and bricks. There's no large construction debris to clear, making clearing the land much easier.

Moreover, it's very close to the guard team, so going out doesn't take much time.

The couple had An'an and Nuan Nuan stay with them while they started clearing the weeds.

These wild grasses may be inconspicuous, but they have deep roots.

That makes sense; the Earth's surface is all salt, so without going deep, you can't absorb fresh water. If plasmolysis were to occur, it would be suicide.

An'an and Nuannuan also reached out to grab some grass, but their little hands were too delicate, and they turned red before they could even pull much.

Seeing this, Bi Qiaoan wiped their hands clean and let the two children eat dried strawberries while watching.

An'an and Nuannuan didn't make a fuss and sat obediently on the cleared ground. They ate the sweet and sour dried fruit bite by bite, their eyes squinting happily.

Suddenly, An'an saw something move in the grass and shouted, "Dad, there's a snake!"

Shen Yanming was startled and quickly bent down to look for it. The thing reacted quickly and disappeared in a flash.

Shen Yanming shook his head regretfully and said to An'an, "It ran too far, and Daddy couldn't catch it."

"Dad's fine, he can catch rabbits for us next time," An'an waved her hand, offering a serious reassurance.

Shen Yanming smiled, but before he could speak, he heard a woman scream "Ah!" not far away.

"What's wrong? What happened?"

"My wife has been bitten by a snake! Is there a doctor here? Help!"

"Didn't that kid just shout about a snake? Could it have come out of their field? What should we do now? Should we ask them for compensation?"

"Are you out of your mind? This is the middle of nowhere, it's not like it's someone's pet, why should we ask them to pay for it? The important thing now is to catch that snake and see if it's poisonous. If it's not poisonous, everything will be fine, but if it is, we'll have to go back to the medical department to get antivenom."

"I wonder if the medical department has any antivenom. I heard that we need to treat the symptoms."

"Ouch, honey, it hurts so much! What should I do? Am I going to die?"

"Don't be afraid, honey, I'll suck it out for you right away!"

Upon hearing this, the couple rushed over to stop them: "No, you can't suck out snake venom. If you can't save one, you'll end up killing another."

"Then what do you suggest we do?" The man, sweating profusely, looked up and asked with a fearful expression.

"First, we need to determine if it's a venomous snake." Shen Yanming ran over. "Did you see which way the snake ran?"

“There!” the woman said, pointing in a direction after regaining her composure.

Shen Yanming nodded, called out, "Let my wife treat your wound," and ran off.

Bi Qiaoan pulled An'an and Nuan Nuan over, and upon examining the wound, she was 80% certain that it was a snake bite.

She quickly took out a first-aid kit from her bag, took out a rubber band, and tightly tied it above the wound.

Then he disinfected the dagger with alcohol and made two cuts on the wound. The woman grimaced in pain and almost kicked Bi Qiaoan away.

"Don't move, or you'll die from the poison."

Perhaps the warning had an effect, for the woman gripped the man's arm tightly, and although both of them were covered in sweat from the pain, they did not back down.

Bi Qiaoan squeezed the poisonous blood around the wound with both hands. Seeing that the blood had turned red, she took out some spiritual spring water from her backpack and poured it on the wound twice to wash it. Then she took out some medicinal powder and sprinkled it on the wound.

"Here, have a couple of sips."

"What is this?"

"Water, to replenish your strength."

The woman took a sip, and then Bi Qiaoan poured a pill out of a plastic box.

"Swallow it."

"What is this?"

"Medicine, for detoxification. It may not be effective, but it is certainly harmless."

The woman was conflicted; faced with this unknown person and the medicine, she didn't know which to choose.

"Wife, eat quickly, we can't delay now." The man took the pills and looked at the woman nervously.

The woman gritted her teeth and swallowed it. Although Bi Qiaoan didn't look like a doctor, she had no reason to harm herself.

She was so tense that she didn't even notice that her leg wasn't hurting as much anymore. The numbness and swelling were gone, as if nothing had happened.

Shen Yanming returned at this moment, holding a one-meter-long, wrist-thick, black and red snake in his hand, which looked very venomous.

"It almost got away. If we hadn't caught it, who knows how many people it would have bitten." Shen Yanming threw the snake on the ground, startling the people around him who took several steps back.

"It's alright, I killed it." Shen Yanming smiled. "The teeth were all pulled out, so it's not poisonous."

What Shen Yanming didn't say was that he had put the venomous fangs into his spatial storage, thinking that he might need them sometime.

Hearing this, the onlookers were less frightened. Some of the bolder ones even picked up the snake and asked Shen Yanming, "Can we eat this?"

Shen Yanming was surprised for a moment, then nodded: "Okay."

Do you still want it?

"No, I don't want it."

The man happily took the snake and left, also taking a string of people with him.

Shen Yanming then had time to examine the woman's wound. He commented, "My wife treated it well, but you should still go to the medical department for a check-up."

The man thanked him gratefully and then asked, "Are you doctors?"

"No, we're just guards. We've been trained before and know how to handle this. Your wife's condition needs to be dealt with as soon as possible, otherwise the toxins might damage her nerves, so we stepped in to help."

"Okay, thank you so much, otherwise I wouldn't know what to do."

After the man finished speaking, he picked up his wife and headed towards the base.
