"I'm sorry, I couldn't help it." Bi Qiaoan smiled apologetically, then took a tissue to wipe the small dots off Shen Yanming's face.
Shen Yanming wiped his face with a resigned expression, then smelled it: "It stinks!"
Bi Qiaoan's face flushed red instantly, and she turned her head away, ignoring Shen Yanming.
Old Shen chuckled and nudged his wife, saying, "Go wait in bed while I check what's going on outside."
Bi Qiaoan didn't mince words and nodded, "Okay!"
Shen Yanming grabbed another down jacket from the bed, wrapped it around himself, closed the bedroom door, and headed towards the living room.
"Here it comes, who is it?" They're taking so many pictures.
The person outside paused, then knocked lightly twice.
Shen Yanming turned on the living room light, opened the door, and saw Li Gangtie, who looked travel-worn and had a frosty expression.
"What's wrong? Please come in." Shen Yanming made way for him at the door.
Li Gangtie waved his hand, his face grim: "I'm not going in. Give me all the pills you have here."
Shen Yanming's smile vanished. He turned and went back into the house to get the medicine, asking, "What happened?"
"We did a live stream from the base canteen today and found that many people were absent. We didn't think much of it at first, but the staff overheard people talking and realized that some of them hadn't left the house for several days."
That's normal, after all, it's cold, and not everyone wants to come out and join the fun. The problem is that this afternoon, two houses in Zone D collapsed under the weight of the snow. When the patrol team arrived, they found the people inside were already unconscious.
I don't know if it was from the cold, hunger, or carbon monoxide poisoning.
Kou Guangshi dared not delay and reported the matter. The official in charge, Wen, was furious and ordered people to investigate house to house to see if there were any abnormalities. The investigation revealed a very serious problem.
One-tenth of the people in Sector D have lost their mobility and are lying in bed waiting to die. If we hadn't arrived in time, a lot of houses at the base would have been empty for people to move into after tonight.
Quite a few people in Zone C have also had problems, but we have limited manpower and haven't finished checking them all yet. Right now, the main thing is to get those who have fainted to the hospital, but the roads outside are difficult to navigate, and there are so many people with hypothermia that we can't handle it all.
The hospital has limited resources, so I have no choice but to ask you for help.
Shen Yanming shoved all the pills he had recently made into Li Gangtie's hands: "They're all for winter, you can decide how to give them to everyone."
Then he turned around and said, "There are still some ginger slices at home. Take them all and make soup for the guards and the victims."
Now is a matter of life and death; this is not the time to back down.
Shen Yanming hid back in the kitchen, took out a plastic box from the cabinet, twisted open the lid, put in half ordinary ginger slices and half spiritual ginger slices, and then mixed them together.
They're all completely dried, so you can't tell the difference unless you look closely. But even if someone notices something's wrong, you can just say they were dried from different pieces of ginger; there will definitely be some differences in size and color, but it doesn't matter.
Watching the other man busily working, Li Gangtie's eyes welled up with tears, thinking to himself, "What a kind person he is." But when Shen Yanming came out of the kitchen, Li Gangtie froze on the spot.
He was so anxious that he didn't notice the other person. Now he realizes that Old Shen is bare-legged!
I remembered he was downstairs and noticed the lights weren't on inside. Plus, I'd been knocking on the door for so long without anyone answering.
Li Gangtie had a bold guess in his mind: he had interrupted someone else's good time!
Thinking of this, his old face flushed red. He hadn't expected the young man to be in such high spirits, doing this and that at only six o'clock.
Oh right, aren't there two kids too? How could they be so shameless?
Seeing Li Gangtie staring blankly, Shen Yanming asked him, "What are you thinking about?"
"Where's your wife?" Li Gangtie asked instinctively.
Shen Yanming, unaware that the other party had misunderstood, didn't mince words: "She's in the bedroom. Do you need to see her?"
"No, no, I just haven't seen him. I was just asking."
"Oh!" Shen Yanming shoved the plastic box into Li Gangtie's hands. "You go ahead, I'll change my clothes and then go help. By the way, where are those unconscious people? And are all the guards in Sector D?"
Li Gangtie nodded: "The main force is moving the unconscious people in Zone D, while only a small number are being investigated in Zone C."
Those with minor injuries were sent to the large classroom in Area A, where there are tables and chairs, so they can make do for the night and recover.
Those with obvious frostbite requiring emergency treatment are all at the hospital. The doctors said they are short-staffed, lack medication and equipment, and are afraid they can't save everyone. They can only do their best and told us to be prepared.
Shen Yanming nodded: "Okay, I understand!"
After Li Gangtie left, Shen Yanming closed the door and went into the bedroom. Bi Qiaoan had already changed her clothes and was wrapped up like a ball.
"What's going on?" Shen Yanming had some thoughts in mind, but he wasn't quite sure.
“Let’s see if there’s anything we can do to help,” Bi Qiaoan said.
Shen Yanming nodded and took off his down jacket.
Bi Qiaoan took out the thermal underwear, cotton pants, and sweater she had changed out of from her spatial storage and threw them to him: "Hurry up and change into these."
Shen Yanming smiled and dressed quite quickly. However, he still said, "I thought you wouldn't go out."
After all, I have two young children at home, and they can't be left alone.
Bi Qiaoan didn't want to go out in the freezing cold either, but Li Gangtie made it sound so serious. It would be better if she didn't know, but if she knew and didn't help, she couldn't live with herself!
Shen Yanming shared the same thought, so he didn't stop Bi Qiaoan.
However, he instructed, "Don't go to Section D, it's chaotic there. Just stay at the hospital or the lecture hall and help make some ginger soup or cook some porridge."
Bi Qiaoan nodded: "I'll go to the hospital. The patient there is in serious condition. If I have the chance, I'll add some spiritual spring water to the soup and see if it helps."
Shen Yanming thought about it and agreed. However, he added, "Be careful in everything you do, and don't put yourself in danger for the sake of others."
Bi Qiaoan smiled and reassured her, "Don't worry, I'm not the kind of selfless person."
The couple agreed and went out together. However, they went into their spatial dimension before leaving.
Shen Yanming took a bunch of food from the storage area and placed it on the coffee table in the mobile villa. Bi Qiaoan then used her consciousness to bring the two people and the goose back.
She gently touched An'an and Nuan'an's still-warm little faces and said, "Something's happened outside. You and Da'ezi stay here obediently and don't worry your parents. Eat when you're hungry and go to sleep when you're sleepy. Can you do that?"
An'an and Nuannuan looked at Shen Yanming and Bi Qiaoan with worry in their eyes: "Mom and Dad, is there any danger?"
The couple didn't hide anything and nodded: "Yes, but it will be very small. Mom and Dad will take good care of ourselves."
The two little ones gave the couple a reluctant hug and, like little adults, gave them a few words of advice: "Be careful, and come back soon."
The couple rubbed their two little furry heads and said with a smile, "Don't worry." Then they left the space.
An An Nuan Nuan looked at the empty living room and sighed.
