Chapter 907 The Man at the Top of the Food Chain Gets a Slap in the Face

With two of their companions killed in succession, the wolves were enraged by this sudden turn of events, and their attacks on the group became even more ferocious.

Li Gangtie only had a few bullets left in his gun, and he dared not use them all. Moreover, the wolf pack was already engaged in combat with the guards, so he dared not launch another attack recklessly.

Perhaps because they had taken two drops of blood in a row, the wolf pack felt that Li Gangtie was not someone to be trifled with, so they deliberately avoided him when attacking.

This was exactly what he wanted. Li Gangtie simply left the formation, observing who had a problem, and would either deliver a couple of blows or simply kill them with a single shot.

The guards were very brave; within minutes, they had killed seven or eight wolves. However, many wolves remained, and the guards' stamina was quickly depleted in the fierce battle.

They were still wearing heavy cotton-padded clothes and didn't have the same quick reflexes as other creatures that had adapted to the extreme cold. They could easily get scratched or bitten.

As the fight intensified, the formation that had initially stood back-to-back in a circle gradually disintegrated, revealing Shen Yanming and Ji Kangyong.

This pack of slightly intelligent wolves also knew how to bully the weak and fear the strong. Once they identified their targets, they pounced on the two of them.

Ji Kangyong had extensive experience fighting thugs, so he was not intimidated. He dodged the wolf's attack by sidestepping it, and then stabbed it in the back with a dagger.

Although Shen Yanming didn't have as much combat experience as the others, he had still practiced. As the wolf lunged at him, he swung his backpack and smashed it hard against the wolf's head.

The wolf hadn't expected the seemingly weakest person to be so fierce. It fell to the ground, shook its head, and bared its teeth.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Shen Yanming threw something into its mouth, then stepped forward with a dagger, and as the wolf fell to the ground, the dagger pierced its neck.

Li Gangtie was stunned. He asked, "Old Shen, how did you do that?"

"A sleeping potion!" Shen Yanming said, dodging another wolf.

"Then hurry up and get the medicine to knock out the rest too!"

Shen Yanming thought to himself, "Do I not want to? I do want to, but the reality doesn't allow it."

"If we take down the wolf, we'll also have to take down the person. What if the person faints first? Wouldn't that make us lambs to the slaughter? Besides, I don't have the antidote!" Shen Yanming explained.

Li Gangtie had a hint of disappointment in his words, but he couldn't dampen the other's morale at this moment, so he could only grit his teeth and say, "Then protect yourself and help others when appropriate."

Shen Yanming nodded, and just as he was about to say something, a wolf suddenly jumped out from the side and pounced on him.

He watched helplessly as the wolf's claws reached for his eyes, and instinctively raised his arm to block. As a result, his thick cotton coat was torn to shreds, and the sharp nails scratched his skin, leaving four deep marks.

Blood gushed out immediately, and the stench of blood drove the hungry wolf even crazier. Shen Yanming's face contorted in pain, but he couldn't give up, or he would lose his life.

The man at the top of the food chain was proven wrong. He was no match for the wolf; the wolf treated him as prey.

"Old Shen, how are you? Do you need help?" Li Gangtie aimed his gun at the wolf, ready to pull the trigger at any moment.

Shen Yanming didn't reply. Instead, he glared fiercely at the other person, endured the pain, and charged forward with his dagger.

Li Gangtie frowned, and was about to step forward to help when he was entangled by the two wolves. They probably thought he hadn't fired a gun in a long time and wasn't much of a threat anymore.

Li Gangtie was struggling to cope with the two wolves, focusing so much on dealing with them that he couldn't keep an eye on Shen Yanming. His heart clenched with anxiety, fearing something bad might happen.

Bi Qiaoan in the space was so anxious that tears were about to come out, but she held them back and cheered her husband on.

Of course, he only thought it aloud and dared not make a sound, for fear of disturbing Shen Yanming's attack.

Shen Yanming was indeed somewhat distressed at this moment. He had an injury on his hand and was being held captive by wolves, unable to move freely.

That person was sharp-tongued and could easily bite him. Although Shen Yanming wasn't bitten, he was still terrified. He tried to throw the sleeping potion several times, but failed each time.

However, he had many trump cards up his sleeve. Taking advantage of the wolf's approach, he directly sprinkled some poison. It was in powder form, and when the wind blew it, it smeared directly onto the wolf's face.

Of course, he had inevitably inhaled some as well. Shen Yanming quickly took the antidote, and then, taking advantage of the wolf's staggering gait, he stabbed it in the neck with a dagger.

A few seconds later, the hungry wolf collapsed to the ground. Shen Yanming was exhausted and realized that his skills were really lacking.

He dared not relax and got up to prepare for battle before another wolf pounced.

Time ticked by, and more and more wolf carcasses lay on the ground, their blood staining large swaths of land. The guards grew exhausted, their strength failing, and as a result, more and more were wounded.

There were still thirteen wolves on the scene, but they were all exhausted.

Li Gangtie had run out of bullets, and he was somewhat desperate. If anyone died or was seriously injured today, he would never be able to forgive himself for the rest of his life.

Li Gangtie couldn't understand why the wolf pack, even with its alpha wolf dead and suffering such heavy losses, wouldn't give up. Shouldn't they have retreated?

What he didn't know was that the wolves hadn't had a proper meal in a long time. Although there were plenty of animals in the mountains, there were just too many wolves, and there was never enough meat to go around. Their hunt today had taken over their food supply, and the wolves were certainly not happy about it.

They had found a wild boar, ready for a delicious meal. But who knew, the boar was hanging from a tree. Since they couldn't climb trees, it naturally made them incredibly angry.

Li Gangtie and his men were carrying so much prey, and most importantly, they were the prey themselves.

The wolves certainly wouldn't let such a good opportunity to eat slip by. Besides, they'd already devoured many survivors, so they had no respect for these guards. They were all meat anyway, and they looked quite plump.

And so, two groups of creatures from different races clashed.

Looking at the still-energized wolves, Li Gangtie regretted his greed once more. In the current situation, without strong support, they were likely to be completely wiped out.

Just as he was lost in thought, he suddenly heard Qi Xili's voice.

Looking into the distance, Li Gangtie saw a group of people running desperately.

"Old Li, hold on! Reinforcements are on their way!"

Qi Xili's voice carried far through the tranquil mountain forest. Everyone who heard it felt a renewed surge of hope, as if their bodies were filled with strength, enough to fight a hungry wolf for three hundred rounds.

Li Gangtie's eyes were wet with tears, touched by the other person's timely appearance, but he still yelled at the top of his lungs, "You fucking hurry up, I can't hold on much longer. Why are you so slow?"

At that moment, Qi Xili wanted to kick the other person hard, thinking that Old Li really didn't know how to talk. However, he also felt a great sense of relief.

Thinking that since Li Gangtie could still joke, the situation shouldn't be beyond repair.
