Chapter 912 A False Alarm

Everyone smiled and said nothing more.

Wen Mengguan looked up at the bright sun, which was almost directly overhead, and asked, "What are you planning to do? Go back now, or wait until tonight?"

Li Gangtie looked at his teammates, thought for a moment, and patted Ye Wengui on the shoulder: "Leave the things here for now. I'll take them to the hospital for a check-up, and then come back to move them tonight."

Ye Wengui nodded: "Okay. Don't worry, I'll definitely keep it safe for you."

“It’s not just me, it’s everyone,” Li Gangtie emphasized.

Ye Wengui smiled and said, "Okay."

Seeing that everyone had reached a decision, Wen Mengguan left. However, he left Jiang Shulian behind to go to the hospital with them to see if there was anything they could help with.

Since Qi Xili and the others were uninjured, they decided to go straight home.

Shen Yanming stopped them and said, "My wife may have brewed some medicine to dispel the cold. Wait a moment, I'll go home and check. You should all have some before you go back to rest."

Qi Xili nodded: "Okay, thank you!"

Upon seeing this, Jiang Shulian quickly said, "Why don't I go to your house to take a look? You and Captain Li go to the hospital first." Judging from the torn sleeve, it was clear that the injury was quite serious.

Shen Yanming could tell what he was thinking just by looking at his eyes. He wanted to say that it was really nothing serious, but he couldn't bring himself to say it.

So he replied, "Okay, thank you."

Upon seeing this, Qi Xili led his men to the hospital.

The group of twenty-five guards, a grand procession, looked quite imposing at first glance. But upon closer inspection, half of them were injured—well, that was rather unsettling.

There were few pedestrians on the road, but there were some. Seeing them, I instinctively gave way, afraid of being caught in the crossfire. These fierce-looking guys were clearly not to be trifled with.

They arrived at the hospital in no time. The doctors were stunned by their terrible condition.

"Did they fight?" the attending doctor asked after taking a look.

"No, I was scratched by a wolf," Li Gangtie said.

The doctor was taken aback, then exclaimed in alarm: "Quickly open it up and let us see! How come there are wolves here? Is the base really that unsafe?"

His voice was quite loud, and many nurses and patients passing by heard it.

Fearing that it would cause panic, Li Gangtie quickly explained, "No, there are no wolves in the base. We were surrounded and attacked outside."

"Why did you all go outside?" The doctor felt his curiosity had been piqued.

"Well, we went out on a mission and ended up deep in the mountains. As you know, in winter the snow is heavy and it's cold. Those hungry wolves had nothing to eat, and when they saw a person, they stared at them like they were a bone. If we hadn't been lucky, we probably would have been dead by now."

Li Gangtie said, half-jokingly.

The doctor sighed deeply after hearing this, marveling at their good fortune for a long time. Then he asked in a low voice, "Captain Li, what about the wolf? Did you bring it back? Can I buy some from you?"

Li Gangtie's face flushed red. He held his breath and said, "The base took it." He thought to himself, "What kind of people are they? All they think about is eating meat." He asked in an unfriendly tone, "Hey, how's my wound? Does it need treatment?"

The doctor then realized he had been examining someone's wound. After a careful examination, he concluded, "Your wound is being treated very well and is already healing. It doesn't look deep; it should be healed in about a week or two."

"Are you serious?" Li Gangtie asked incredulously. He clearly remembered feeling quite a bit of pain at the time. Was Old Shen's medicine really that effective?

"Ah, of course. Look, the wound is cleaned quite well, there's no infection, and it's already starting to scab over." The doctor, unaware of his thoughts, pointed to the wound and explained to Li Gangtie.

Li Gangtie examined it carefully and found that it was indeed as the doctor had said. Moreover, the wound was still the same wound; although it didn't hurt much, it was still the same shape as before. He then dispelled his doubts.

The same applies to the others. After examination, it was confirmed that there were no major problems, so they were allowed to go home and recuperate.

However, the hospital said, "There are no rabies vaccines left."

Uh oh, everyone felt like they'd been struck by lightning. They'd only thought the wound wasn't deep and would heal in a few days. They'd completely forgotten about this potential safety hazard.

After a long silence, Li Gangtie casually said, "It's okay, I believe in my luck, I won't be that unlucky."

"Yes, the wolves we encountered all seemed normal, so we should be fine... right?"

"There is a probability involved. Being scratched or bitten by a canine does not necessarily mean you will get rabies. Getting vaccinated is just to prevent the risk."

"Yeah, I think so too. Even if there really is a problem, we can wait until it erupts in twenty years. By then, I'll have lived long enough."

Qi Lin felt uneasy seeing everyone's blustering but cowardly demeanor. He turned to look at his father, only to find him watching the show with amusement, completely unconcerned.

He tugged at Qi Xili's sleeve: "Dad?"

Qi Xili patted his shoulder reassuringly: "It's okay."

Hearing the interaction between the father and son, Shen Yanming looked up at them, only to find that Qi Xili's gaze was unwavering, and he even smiled meaningfully at him.

Shen Yanming raised an eyebrow and waited for everyone to finish grieving before saying, "The pills I gave you can boost your immunity. You could say they have some antiviral properties."

He didn't dare reveal the true effects, otherwise people would definitely doubt him—how could he know that everyone would be bitten by wolves?

Li Gangtie's eyes lit up after hearing this. He excitedly grabbed Shen Yanming's hand and asked, "Are you serious?"

Shen Yanming nodded: "Yes, it does have that effect, but it also depends on one's own constitution. If the body is too weak, infection is still possible. You know, anything can happen."

He won't give any definitive answer.

But it was this ambiguous answer that put Li Gangtie at ease. He laughed heartily twice: "Heaven hasn't forsaken me!"

The others were confused, but because of Captain Li's demeanor, they were no longer nervous.

Qi Lin stared wide-eyed at his father for confirmation: "The crisis is over just like that? It seems a bit like a joke."

Qi Xili ruffled his son's hair and said with a smile, "Your Uncle Chen has many unknown skills, but he is too low-key and unwilling to step into the limelight."

Qi Lin looked at Shen Yanming and his eyes lit up with excitement once again.

Qi Xili suddenly regretted saying those words. He pinched his son's cheek and threatened, "You should keep it to yourself and not go around telling anyone."

Qi Lin quickly nodded: "Yes, yes, I understand. I promise it will go in one ear and out the other."

Qi Xili smiled and didn't continue to threaten him.

A group of people were talking and preparing to leave when Jiang Shulian came in, carrying a large plastic bottle of black herbal medicine.

"Sorry I'm a little late. How are you all doing? Have you finished the checks? Are everything alright?"

"Yes, everything has been checked. The wound has been treated very well; you can go home and sleep now," Li Gangtie said.
