Upon closer inspection, he discovered that the two living creatures were actually a male and a female.
Shen Yanming looked around and, seeing no one was there, had an idea. He wanted to put the two deer into his spatial dimension, hoping to use the space's conveniences to help them reproduce.
Although there are some in the space, they are different varieties. He wanted to release them to help everyone out, but he couldn't.
Shen Yanming placed his hands on the heads of the two fawns. He wanted to withdraw them, but was somewhat worried. The view from here wasn't wide open; if someone were hiding in some corner, it would be troublesome.
After hesitating for a long time, Shen Yanming sighed. Forget it, it's better to be cautious.
He got up to move the two dead animals. To prevent the deer blood from flowing out too quickly, he didn't even pull out the crossbow bolt. But blood still dripped out a trail.
After finally managing to pull the four deer together, Shen Yanming was completely exhausted. He was alone, and his strength was limited. He was already panting after pulling just two, let alone four.
But I couldn't just leave the deer there. After thinking for a moment, I took a rope out of my bag, tied the deer to it, and hung it from a tree. Then, I dragged it across the snow, holding it by one leg in each hand.
He walked for about fifteen minutes when he heard someone call out, "Yanming!"
Caught off guard, Shen Yanming was startled. He trembled, looked up, and found that it was Liang Huaxin.
What brings you here?
"Captain Qi waited for you for ages and when you didn't come back, he got worried and sent me to look for you. Why did you run so far away?!"
"We've spotted our prey!"
Liang Huaxin was quite far away when he shouted. I only saw a figure and didn't notice what he was holding. Only after hearing what he said did I realize that the object was quite large.
"What?" he asked.
"Deer!" Shen Yanming didn't hide anything: "There are several! I only managed to kill four, and I can't carry them all. Come and help me!"
Liang Huaxin quickened his pace, wondering if he was hallucinating. But when he got closer, he was stunned to find that Shen Yanming was indeed carrying two deer.
"Old Shen, you're amazing! How did you do that?"
Shen Yanming pointed to the arrow on the deer's body, then patted his backpack: "I brought weapons."
Liang Huaxin nodded, not pressing for details. "Didn't you say there were two more? Where are those two?"
Shen Yanming didn't want to go back. He pointed in a direction and said, "They're alive in that tree over there. Tie them up and bring them back."
Liang Huaxin grunted in agreement and ran off.
He ran for about ten minutes and then saw a tree with two deer tied up. He quickly untied the deer, tied them tightly with rope, carried one on each side, and crossed over.
Watching his movements, Shen Yanming couldn't help but exclaim in admiration, "You're really strong!"
Liang Huaxin chuckled: "It's all from practice."
The two walked and talked, resting by the roadside when they got tired.
About forty minutes later, several more guards arrived. Their eyes lit up at the sight of the two men's haul, and they quickly came to help.
"I was wondering why you two hadn't come back for so long. Turns out you've had a catch!" he said, taking the deer from their hands.
Shen Yanming handed the deer to the other person and said with a smile, "It was just a coincidence that we met."
"That also depends on luck. I've heard people say that Captain Shen is lucky before, but I didn't expect it to be true!"
Shen Yanming was embarrassed. He wanted to say no, but the things in his hand were irrefutable evidence.
"Well, let's not talk about this anymore, let's hurry back. We're so tired and hungry from this journey," Liang Huaxin said, trying to smooth things over.
Shen Yanming's stomach also rumbled loudly twice, and without further ado, the group hurried back to their temporary camp.
As soon as they reached the vicinity of the tent, they were spotted by the guards who were walking back and forth. A cheer immediately alerted Qi Xili.
When Qi Xili came out of the tent, he was stunned. His gaze towards Shen Yanming held a hint of admiration; he thought to himself, "This is truly a favorite of heaven!"
"Quickly, you must be exhausted, come and rest!" Qi Xili said, pulling the person back into the tent.
"How did you manage to catch all these deer all by yourself?" Qi Xili asked, handing Shen Yanming a bowl of fish porridge.
Shen Yanming took a sip and slowly recounted his day's experiences. He didn't hide a single detail!
"You said there are seven or eight in total?" Qi Xili asked, stroking his chin.
Shen Yanming nodded: "They were far away, so I didn't count them all. But there were definitely more than just these four; some ran away."
"Did you see which way they ran off to?"
"The snow over there hasn't been stepped on; all the traces have been preserved. We should be able to find it by following the footprints."
Qi Xili nodded, gave Li Gangtie a few instructions, and then Li Gangtie led a group of people away.
Shen Yanming was somewhat puzzled: "Didn't you scout that area before?"
Qi Xili gave an awkward laugh: "They only walked for half an hour, didn't find anything, and came back."
Shen Yanming smiled and said, "That's because I'm stubborn."
"No, no, no, you have perseverance."
Shen Yanming didn't say anything, and started gulping down his porridge.
"Okay, you can stay in the tent. We'll call you when it's time to leave," Qi Xili said after watching him finish his porridge.
Shen Yanming nodded, not refusing. He lay down in his sleeping bag, glancing subconsciously at his online storage. Seeing no one there, he sighed, thinking, "My wife doesn't care about me anymore." Then he closed his eyes and fell asleep.
Shen Yanming woke up to a commotion. He yawned, stretched, and stepped out of the tent, only to find that Li Gangtie had returned.
They not only brought back the remaining three deer, but also two wild boars. It was a very successful haul.
"Are you alright?" The guard who stayed behind quickly stepped forward to ask.
Li Gangtie was in a good mood, patting several prey and promoting his heroic deeds.
"We found these deer by following their footprints, but they ran away before we could even do anything. We were only able to catch them because of this."
Li Gangtie patted the weapon at his waist and continued, "I thought that was all the harvest I had, but who knew that I would run into two wild boars on the way back. Oh my, they were so fierce, they almost knocked me over. It was only with the help of these guys that we were able to kill the wild boars."
Qi Xili patted his shoulder with a smile: "Alright, let's pack up and go down the mountain."
Li Gangtie's mouth hung open, frozen in place. He thought to himself, "I still have so much to say!"
Qi Xili ignored him and left with his men. The group extinguished the fire, packed up the tents, and retrieved their fishing nets as they passed the riverbank. They then descended the mountain with their last spoils.
They descended the mountain in high spirits. Only after tossing the prey into the truck did they realize they'd already filled half a truck. The meat was frozen solid, and there wasn't a trace of gamey smell.
The group boarded a horse-drawn sleigh and headed towards Yunling Mountain. Although they were cold, their hearts were warm.
Several hours later, we finally arrived at the foot of Yunling Mountain. By then, it was already dark.
