Chapter 52 Sun Kaicheng Returns

The Qian family didn't care about the siblings' politeness; they figured they could just make up for it later for their granddaughter.

Qian Xiao is really happy today. Her family has been so good to her all her life.

...

In her dream, Qian Xiao was picking wild fruits on the mountain with her friends. Looking at the trees full of fruit, pine cones, and chestnuts, she wished she had more arms and hands so she could pick up a lot of them and put them in her basket at the same time.

Even in her sleep, she had a wide grin on her face, looking incredibly happy. A phantom figure glanced at the girl who was smiling even in her sleep, nodded to the phantom of a ragdoll cat, and then vanished instantly.

The illusory image of the ragdoll cat leaned against Qian Xiao's pillow, rubbed against Qian Xiao's face, and breathed a sigh of relief. It was finally brought back by this person. It didn't know if this person would really not hurt its host.

However, thinking of the extra things in the space, it proudly raised its head. How many systems could be as powerful as it? It could even work to support its host.

Qian Xiao seemed to sense something, frowned, squinted, and looked around. Everything in front of her was pitch black. Then she snuggled into her pillow and fell asleep.

In the morning, she sat on the kang (a heated brick bed) with a frown: "Shuangdan, why do I feel like someone was watching me while I was sleeping last night? Do you think there are ghosts in this world?"

Although she was brave, she was still somewhat afraid of things that she couldn't see or touch.

Shuangdan tilted his head: "Ghost? You mean the soul of a human?"

"You could say that. I remember that I didn't disappear after I died in my previous life, but I've tried, and I can't touch physical objects."

However, she had never encountered a soul in the same situation as herself, so even though she had had such an experience, she was still somewhat afraid of ghosts and gods.

"Not everyone's soul can survive after death. Like you, you were able to preserve your complete soul and thoughts for some unknown reason. Most people turn into a ball of energy and slowly disappear after death, and do not exist for long."

"So there's no such thing as the underworld?" She thought that since she could travel through time, the underworld must exist too.

"I don't know, but that's how our research explains it. When a person dies, they simply dissipate; there's no such thing as reincarnation."

Qian Xiao pointed to his own nose: "Then what about me? Wasn't I reincarnated?"

"I don't know the specifics, but I do know that after you entered your mother's womb, a little life existed inside her. That must be what you mean by reincarnation, right?"

Qian Xiao nodded, only half understanding. Sure enough, her brain wasn't suited to studying such profound knowledge.

"Host, get up quickly. Didn't you promise to go up the mountain to get some mountain produce with Gouzi?"

"Oh right, I almost forgot. I dreamt last night that there were lots of mountain produce on the mountain. I'm going to carry the biggest basket over today and pick up as much as I can."

Dragon City, the capital of the Dragon Kingdom.

A cry of alarm came from a courtyard house: "Mom, Mom, come quick! My little brother is awake! My little brother is awake!"

With a shout from a boy with a hoarse voice, the quiet courtyard instantly became lively. Several people ran out barefoot and headed towards the quietest room.

Sun Kaicheng opened his eyes and looked at the unfamiliar yet familiar rooftop, feeling momentarily disoriented. This should be the courtyard house that his mother had given as part of her dowry. He had been here before, and he was very familiar with the unique carvings on the wooden beams of the roof.

Hearing a lot of footsteps, he turned his head to look at the door. His body was probably lying down for too long, and he couldn't even get up on his own.

A woman in her forties, with her hair disheveled and unkempt, rushed in. She hurried to the bedside, but then stopped abruptly, as if she were afraid that any sudden movement would shatter the illusory scene before her.

Next came a neatly dressed man, his face covered in sweat, probably having just finished exercising. Then came several teenagers and girls, and finally an elderly couple, supporting each other as they walked in, their faces showing urgency.

Sun Kaicheng opened his mouth, and the voice that came out was a little hoarse and unclear, probably because he hadn't spoken for many years: "Mom, Dad."

The woman burst into tears instantly: "Oh, my son! You've finally woken up, sob sob sob, my son! My poor son, sob sob sob..."

The man was tall, handsome, and resolute, and his eyes were red, clearly indicating that he was very excited.

The children helped the elderly couple, who were the last to enter, to their bedside. Sun Kaicheng called out in a hoarse voice, "Grandpa, Grandma."

The old lady grabbed Sun Kaicheng's hand and burst into tears: "You child, you child, I thought you didn't want your grandma anymore, boohoo, you've finally woken up."

The old man patted his wife on the back, reminding her not to faint on this joyous day.

My own grandson fainted in my husband's arms and remained unconscious for five years. My husband felt extremely guilty, always saying that he hadn't protected his grandson well and that such a young child had suffered so much.

The old lady cried so hard, her voice filled with sorrow, that everyone in the room wiped away tears. They were all grown up and understood things by then. They were terrified to see their younger brother lying unconscious with blood streaming down his head.

So many years have passed, and everyone thought that my little brother would never wake up again. But God really heard their prayers and made him wake up after being in a coma for five years.

After the old lady had finished crying, the children lined up to come forward. One of the young men looked to be about twenty years old, with sparse stubble on his chin, indicating that he was not very old and had not yet fully matured.

Sun Kaicheng looked at the tall man in front of him, whose face still vaguely resembled that of a young man. He grinned and said, "Big Brother."

Sun Kaizhong also grinned. Seeing his youngest brother finally wake up, his guilt lessened considerably. He was fifteen when his younger brother had the accident. If he hadn't failed to hold his brother's hand, his brother wouldn't have been the one who got hurt.

"Hey, it's good that you're awake. Keep up the good training, and it won't be long before you'll be able to run and jump around."

Sun Kaizhong is twenty years old this year. He joined the army at the age of sixteen and is now a company commander. It was just a coincidence that he was home visiting his family when his younger brother woke up.

"Little brother, do you still recognize me?" A boy who looked a lot like Sun Kaizhong asked, his face more youthful than his older brother's, somewhere between a man and a boy.
