"You've only eaten a few bites? Are you still hungry? What do you want to eat? I'll make it for you now." The little bit you ate wasn't even enough to fill your wife's teeth. What if she gets thin from being so hungry?
At that point, not only will Qian's grandparents not let him off the hook, but even his own maternal grandparents won't let him off the hook.
"Give me a persimmon, the kind that's half-ripe."
Sun Kaicheng glanced outside the door and, not seeing his brother-in-law, quickly smuggled two tomatoes, half green and half red, out of his spatial storage. Why was his wife's taste becoming so picky? She wanted them half-ripe. Was it because the ripe ones didn't taste good?
The vegetables and fruits in the space were all very clean, so Qian Xiao didn't even think about washing them. He just picked them up and started eating. The sour taste helped to suppress the nausea.
Sun Kaicheng's cheeks were tingling with envy as he looked at the sight: "Don't worry, I'll get you some sugar to dip it in." His wife loved eating raw tomatoes dipped in sugar.
"No, I want to eat like this. Don't worry about me, you eat first. After you finish eating, get something for Sandan. This guy looks like he just got off the train, his stomach must be empty."
While the two were talking, San Dan quickly washed himself and used the soap in the bathroom to make himself smell nice, so that his older sister wouldn't find fault with him.
She came in with her hair still wet and cropped: "Big sister, has your husband made any food?"
Sun Kaicheng was just two bites away from finishing his meal: "If I give you these two bites, I'll make you some noodles."
"Big sister, why aren't you eating? You don't have to wait for me, you can eat first," he said, noticing a large bowl of noodles sitting there while his older sister munched on an unripe persimmon.
Qian rolled her eyes, thinking, "I can't eat anymore, my stomach feels uncomfortable."
The eldest sister's bowls are really big, like those small basins. Looking at the noodles with diced meat and sauce in the bowl, San Dan swallowed his saliva shamelessly. They can eat their fill, but if they want to eat something really good, that's not possible.
"You're really not going to eat?"
"I won't eat it; just looking at it makes my stomach uncomfortable."
"Since my brother-in-law isn't busy, I'll just eat my older sister's food." He didn't mind that his older sister had eaten before. When they were little, they even shared a bowl of porridge. When they were so hungry, who would be so picky about such things?
Sun Kaicheng, seeing that there was a lot to do, wasn't picky about the food: "Is there enough to eat?"
San Dan stuffed his mouth full of noodles, the aroma almost bringing tears to his eyes. "Oh my god! It's so delicious!" he exclaimed, nodding quickly when his brother-in-law asked him a question.
Even if he could eat a lot, he couldn't eat as much as his older sister. He could tell she had only eaten a few bites of these noodles. He would feel full after eating all of this.
After finally swallowing the noodles in her mouth, she said, "That's enough, that's enough. Who made these noodles? They're so delicious, even better than my grandma's!"
Qian Xiao slurped up a mouthful of persimmon juice: "How was it made by your brother-in-law? Isn't your brother-in-law a good cook?"
Look how amazing she is! She managed to train Sun Kaicheng, a man who only knew how to boil vegetables, into a skilled chef. It's incredibly rewarding.
San Dan gave a thumbs up: "My sister is the best."
Qian Xiao burst out laughing: "Hurry up and eat. Where's Si Dan? Why are you the only one who came back?" Although the two boys weren't assigned to the same place, they weren't far apart.
"Si Dan won't be back until the end of the year. Sis, I'm an adult now, can you please stop calling me by my nickname?" It's fine to call me that at home, but if I get used to calling you "elder sister" when we're out, people will laugh at me.
Qian Xiao glanced at her younger brother, who had grown into a grown-up, across from her. He really had grown up. She could still remember how filthy he looked when he was little, with snot running down his face.
But what's his real name? What's his little brother's real name again?
San Dan knows his eldest sister very well. You might think she's stupid, since she got into the best university when she was just a teenager. But if you say she's smart, she probably can't even remember her real name right now.
"Big sister, my full name is Qian Zhiping."
"Front-facing screen?" I never expected my little brother's name to be so forward-thinking.
"Yes, Qian Zhiping, Si Dan is called Qian Zhian."
"Right, right, right, this question caught me off guard. All the boys in our lives have the character 'zhi' in their names." No way, she wouldn't have remembered at all if her younger brother hadn't reminded her.
In the village, no one is called by their full name. Everyone is called by their nickname until they grow old. If you don't believe me, go back and say a few full names and see if anyone can remember who they are.
Sun Kaicheng quickly coughed twice to cover up the laughter that almost escaped his lips; his wife always managed to find ways to make him laugh.
Qian Xiao rolled her eyes at Sun Kaicheng. "Don't think I don't know you're making fun of me just because you're trying to hide it. Is it my fault? I've never been called by my full name since I was a child. How could she possibly remember?"
"Calling you by your full name sounds too formal. Can't I call you by your nickname?" The main thing is that she's afraid she'll forget again next time.
"No, you can call me whatever you want at home, but can we call me by my full name when we go out?" Why is my older sister like this? She's so rebellious; she insists on doing whatever you tell her not to do.
"Okay, okay," he said dismissively, clearly not listening.
Qian Zhiping sighed. What could he do about his own sister? He couldn't resist her even if he wanted to. He couldn't beat his older sister either. He could only eat the noodles in his bowl blankly, as if the noodles were Qian Xiao.
Qian Xiao... You're so ambitious! Why don't you stand up and fight back? I haven't hit my little brother in years, and I want to see if I'm still rusty.
"Did you go back to see your parents and grandparents?"
"No, I was thinking of coming to see you first, then going back to see my grandparents, staying for a few days before going to see my parents."
"Can you rest for a few days?"
"This time I have a month-long vacation, but the round trip will take half a month, so I can only stay at home for a maximum of fifteen days."
Qian Xiao sighed. That's the downside of being a soldier. You can only stay home for a few days when you finally get a chance to go home. "Then you should go back to the village to see your grandparents tomorrow. Grandma keeps talking about you and Sidan. She's worried about you all the time."
My own grandparents have it tough too. After worrying about their eldest son, they also have to worry about his two grandsons.
“Okay, I’ll go back to the village to see my grandparents tomorrow.”
"There's a bicycle at home. I'll have your brother-in-law show you how to ride it in a bit, and you can ride it tomorrow."
San Dan, who do you think you are? "I can ride a bicycle."
Qian rolled her eyes: "You can ride this modified gas-powered motorcycle we have?"
"What? Bicycles can run on gasoline? Isn't that the same as a sidecar motorcycle?" A sidecar motorcycle was a type of three-wheeled motorcycle that was quite famous in that era.
"More or less."
San Dan looked at his brother-in-law with sparkling eyes: "Brother-in-law, how are you so amazing? Brother-in-law, tell me how you modified it later."
This bicycle should have been handed over long ago; it's been in production for several years now, and everyone should know about it.
