This was the first time Sun Kaicheng had ever seen such a scene: "Wow, it's so lively! Is this often the case in your village?"
"How could that be? The last time was when I got into university in the summer, and we had a meal in the village. We only got to eat meat once because the pig for the New Year was slaughtered in advance. We never had such a good thing before."
"That's true, there are too many people in your village, you can't afford to eat like this. But it smells pretty good, is it delicious?"
"Well, it's all about the fun of eating. How delicious can a meal from a communal pot be? I've never had wolf meat before, so I don't know if it's any good. Today, the pot probably only has bones and offal; there's probably no real meat in it."
"Big sister, big sister, come over here quickly! We can just wait here. I see, there's the most meat in this pot." Wu Dan's eyes lit up when he saw his big sister.
He had heard that his eldest sister and Chengcheng had contributed the most. Everyone in the village said that his eldest sister was amazing, both in her studies and hunting. None of the other children could help but envy the four brothers.
Qian Xiao's lips twitched. This guy, I thought he came to join in the fun, but it turns out he just wanted to see which pot had more meat.
Sun Kaicheng also found it funny; Erdan's younger brothers were all quite interesting.
"The four of you have been just sitting here watching?" How come you're so ambitious!
"Yeah, when we were putting the meat in, we each watched a few pots, and this pot ended up with the most meat. Where are my mom and the others? Why didn't they come over? Can't we all eat from this pot?"
“Sure, why not? Your mother and the others will be here soon. They’re going home to make pancakes.” She was determined to protect the pot that her younger brother had chosen.
"Big sister, could you tell us about your hunting experiences? I've heard the villagers say you're really good at it."
Qian Xiao raised her chin: "That's right, your eldest sister, I am the most powerful one, so you all have to work hard, otherwise how can you be worthy of my status?"
Liu Dan sniffed, his nose snotty: "Big sister, what's 'high-class'?"
Qian Xiao... How could she forget that there's a language barrier between her and the people here?
"It basically means extremely powerful and awesome."
The four eggs nodded, meaning that their eldest sister was too amazing, and if they didn't work hard, they wouldn't be worthy of being her younger brothers? How could that be? Their eldest sister was their own sister, how could she not be their eldest sister just because they weren't amazing?
"Big sister, are you disgusted with us?" Wu Dan asked, his voice trembling with tears.
Qian Xiao... I feel like no matter how I say it, it doesn't sound right.
"How can you think like that? When has your eldest sister ever looked down on you?"
Liu Dan was almost in tears: "Big sister is lying. You always complained that we were dirty, don't you remember?"
Qian Xiao curled her lips and looked at her four younger brothers who were sniffling: "Then tell me, aren't you four disgusted? I despise every single person who is disgusted."
Five eggs? Six eggs? What does that mean? I don't understand?
Seven Eggs and Eight Eggs didn't think that much: "My eldest sister is the best, I like my eldest sister the most, and I want to be as good as my eldest sister in the future."
Eight Egg nodded vigorously: "Big Sister is our weathervane."
Sun Kaicheng burst out laughing.
All five little heads turned to look at him. What do you mean? What are you laughing at? This is a very serious matter! What's so funny?
Sun Kaicheng quickly suppressed his laughter: "No, I just didn't expect that bastard could use the word 'weather vane'."
Seven Eggs asked with a curious look, "Brother Chengcheng, how do you always manage to tell me apart from Eight Eggs?" No one in the village could tell them apart, and sometimes even their parents couldn't tell them apart.
Because I have spiritual power, I can distinguish you from your different auras, but of course I can't say that.
"Is it that hard? I figured it out at a glance. How did you even know the word 'weather vane'?" Let's change the subject.
Eight-Egg scratched his face with his dark little hands: "I heard it on the radio. When I have nothing to do, I go with my grandpa to listen to the radio and I've learned a lot of words."
"That bastard is really amazing; he can learn a lot just by listening to the radio."
Ba Dan grinned, revealing a mouthful of tiny teeth: "Hehe, hehe."
Qian rolled her eyes. Sun Kaicheng was really good at talking nonsense. It was only because of the four eggs that he was easy to fool. But luckily, he got away with the question from earlier, otherwise she wouldn't have been able to explain herself.
"You four go home now, wash your hands, and then come back for dinner. Don't worry, your older sister is watching over things here and will make sure you don't miss out on the most meat in this pot."
"Alright then, big sister, you can watch carefully."
"Big sister, please don't move the place."
"Don't worry, don't worry, when has your eldest sister ever been unreliable? Go, go, let your mother get you some hot water to wash your hands properly."
The four eggs quickly ran home. Qian Xiao breathed a sigh of relief; her younger brother was older now and not as easy to fool or as fun to play with as he used to be.
Two people squatted down beside her. Qian Xiao turned her head and looked over: "You two just came out?"
"No way, I've been over there the whole time, and I just saw you."
Qian Xiao pointed to the two people next to him: "These two are my childhood friends. One is my great-grandfather's grandson, you can call him Gouzi. The other is the village chief's great-grandfather's granddaughter, Erhua."
"This is Sun Kaicheng, Grandpa Zhou's grandson, and he went to the same university as me."
Sun Kaicheng, Gouzi, and Erhua had met him, but they had never spoken to him. They always felt that he was not the same kind of person as them. They couldn't quite put their finger on it, but it was the kind of feeling that made them hesitant to strike up a conversation.
Sun Kaicheng nodded to the two people: "Hello." He had often heard about these two people from Erdan, and they were Erdan's childhood sweethearts.
"Hello"—city people are different. They greet each other with "hello," and they always ask, "Have you eaten?"
"How's the village today?" Qian Xiao had come up the mountain with them, but they hadn't inquired much about the village. It just so happened that the food was delivered to the two of them.
As soon as Qian Xiao opened her mouth, Gouzi and Erhua's awkwardness vanished instantly, and their eyes lit up as they began to gossip.
"You wouldn't believe it, a wild boar came down to the village today, but it was wounded. Everyone rushed at it in a flash, and before I could even see it clearly, the boar let out a howl and collapsed, convulsing."
"That guy really got me all fired up. I wish I could go up the mountain with you guys. I'm pretty good now, I could probably handle a little wild boar," Gouzi said, feeling confident in himself.
Erhua rolled her eyes at Gouzi: "Come on, I saw it all. Your face turned white when that wild boar came down the mountain. Someone like you wants to go up the mountain? Will Erdan protect you or go hunt the wild boar?"
