Chapter 81: The Man of Qian Wangcai

Qian Xiao loved beauty in her past life, but her aesthetic sense was really different from that of people in this era. She would rather accept her current tomboyish appearance.

Qian Jiefang always admired other people's daughters for their delicate and charming manners. He wondered why his own daughter was so different from other people's daughters. She looked more like his son than his own son. He was definitely disappointed, but no matter how disappointed he was, she was still his own flesh and blood.

The house was negotiated quickly, still at 150 yuan, but the village would take care of cleaning and tidying it up, so the buyer wouldn't have to pay extra for it.

This house also troubled Qian Baozhu. It was a rare brick and tile house, and who wouldn't want one? The problem was that everyone wanted it. Excluding people with other surnames, the Qian family alone made up more than half of the villagers.

If it weren't for the high price of this house, the family would have already started fighting. It's precisely for the sake of unity in the village that the price was set so high. If someone were to buy it, the relatives wouldn't have any conflicts over this house because of the price.

It's better if no one buys it, so no one will think they've gotten a good deal. The money will go directly into the village and can buy a lot of fertilizer.

The next morning, Qian Jiefang and Li Guizhi went straight to the commune. Qian Xiao didn't plan to go with them; he'd rather take a stroll on the back mountain, where many fruits were already ripe.

"Erdan, let's go."

Qian Xiao carried a large basket on her back, which also contained two burlap sacks. There were plenty of mountain produce at this time of year, and she was strong enough to try to bring back as much as possible at once.

As soon as she stepped out of the house, she saw Gouzi and Erhua waiting for her. She wanted to laugh when she saw Gouzi, but thankfully she had good self-control and didn't burst out laughing.

The dog looked completely nonchalant: "Laugh if you want to. If you don't feel uncomfortable, I'm wondering what's so funny. It's not like I'm the only one who got that score."

The dog was incredibly arrogant. He scored eight points in Chinese and ten points in math on the last semester's final exams, the lowest scores in the whole village. When he got home, he was beaten by a mixed-gender couple and had to lie on the kang (a heated brick bed) for a week before he could get out of bed. He was limping around and still full of resentment.

In Gouzi's words, "What if I just can't learn it? I told you not to waste the money on my schooling, and to use that money to buy me candy instead. But look what happened, just as I was able to get out of bed, my great-grandfather gave me a beating, and I spent the entire summer on the kang (heated brick bed)."

Erhua rolled her eyes: "You're the only one in our village who got single digits. You're really something. Erdan always gets first place, and you always get first place too, just from the bottom."

"Tch, you talk like you're a great student, but you still failed!" Gouzi was quite dissatisfied, as if she were some kind of genius.

"So what if I failed? I still got over fifty points, which is better than your single digits."

"Who said I only got single digits? I clearly got ten on my math test. Ten is a single digit? So what if you got fifty-something? You still can't tell the difference between single digits and tens."

"Who said I can't tell the difference? I was clearly using a metaphor. Do you even understand metaphors?" Erhua's face turned red with anger.

"If I don't understand, what do you know? If you did, you wouldn't have failed."

"Dog, I think you're asking for a beating." Erhua was furious and raised her little fist to charge forward.

"Hehehe, come and hit me if you dare!" With that, the dog took off running, occasionally turning back to make faces at Erhua, who chased after it, her face turning red with anger.

Qian Xiao: Naïve.

A group of close friends, led by Qian Xiao, always managed to find something they couldn't. The group of kids laughed and joked as they brought back plenty of food. They went there jumping and skipping, but came back carrying their baskets with difficulty.

Qian Xiao had a large basket with two large burlap sacks stacked on top of it. From behind, it looked like a pile of things had grown two thin legs. If you didn't know better, you would think that the basket and sacks had come to life.

Every time they see Erdan like this, the other kids in the village are incredibly envious. They wish they had Erdan's strength so they could do so much more work!

Only Gouzi shook his head, saying that Erdan was eating too much. If he ate that much, their family would go broke.

The children strolled slowly toward the village. Qian Xiao was waiting for the others, who were having trouble walking. This was the consequence of being too greedy.

Qian Xiao was holding a thin twig and waving it around haphazardly. In the distance, she saw a man wearing a white shirt and black pants. Was it a man?

Qian Xiao quickly walked a few steps to the man's side and saw a familiar face. "Holy crap, it's Qian Wangcai!" she thought. "The way he's dressed, a kid who didn't know better would think he was a government official from the city."

Qian Wangcai was not tall, just over 1.7 meters. He had a greasy head parted in a 3/7 ratio, and it was unclear what he had applied to it. His hair was all tangled in strands, and the key thing was that it looked like there was still some undissolved white grease on it.

This guy isn't without hair oil or wax; he's probably using lard, isn't he? Qian Xiao sniffed, sensing a strong smell of animal fat. The collar of his white shirt was clearly soaked with oil, and there was also a noticeable black stain.

How long has it been since he washed this? Wait a minute, the clothes look relatively clean, so it's probably Qian Wangcai's neck that hasn't been washed. She can see from this distance that the color of Qian Wangcai's neck is off.

The black trousers looked like they'd been ironed with a teacup, still showing creases at the front and back. On his feet were a pair of leather shoes, but the rural soil was quite harsh on leather shoes; they were covered in a layer of dust, making the once-black leather shoes look like dark gray.

Qian grinned as he looked at Qian Wangcai's face. This guy was a typical pretty boy. Without this pretty boy supporting him, he wouldn't even look as neat as a modern insurance salesman. Was he cosplaying as a leader?

A gust of wind blew by and Qian Xiao stopped in his tracks. This smell was awful. It wasn't even as pleasant as the smell of his third uncle after a day of farm work. He wasn't like this before. How come he seems to be even sicker after only half a month?

Erhua and the others caught up, seeing Qian Xiao staring at Qian Wangcai: "Erdan, are you also captivated by Brother Wangcai?"

Qian Xiao looked at Er Hua with a look of horror. The girl was staring at Qian Wangcai with a dreamy look in her eyes. She glanced at Qian Wangcai and then at Er Hua. Good heavens, what earth-shattering secret has she discovered?

Looking at Qian Wangcai again, Qian Xiao almost vomited. How could she have such bad taste as to fall for someone as pretentious and disgusting as Qian Wangcai?

"No, I didn't quite understand what you meant. What do you mean by 'also'? Are you captivated by him?!"

Erhua nodded honestly, her eyes glazed over as if they were bubbling with pink bubbles: "Yes, yes, Brother Wangcai is so handsome, and his clothes are even more impressive than those of the big leaders in the city."
