Her initially low mood was instantly soothed by this sentence; she still preferred the somewhat unconventional system.
"I wonder what kind of house Sun Kaicheng bought. Ideally, it would have a small yard so it would be easy to maintain, and not too far from the factory so he wouldn't have to get up too early to go to get off work."
"I can hardly believe it. I'm only fifteen years old and I'm already working and supporting myself. I'm so awesome."
Double Egg's lips twitched. Its host couldn't be serious for long and immediately reverted to its original state.
"I just don't know when I'll be able to reach level eight. When that happens, I'll be awesome. My retirement pension will be astronomical. Then I'll take you traveling all over the world. There are still so many places I haven't been to yet."
In her past life, she would occasionally travel with her parents, but she didn't go to many places. Anyway, she didn't really like going. When she arrived at tourist attractions, all she saw were crowds of people's heads, and she couldn't see any real scenery.
I thought back then that when I got old and had money and free time, I would drive around with my dog to travel and see the sights. Fast-paced tourism is really boring. It's better to travel slowly by myself and see more scenery.
"Okay, then it's settled."
"Don't worry, I may not have many merits, but I always keep my word."
As they talked together, the journey seemed to become shorter, and the feeling of loneliness disappeared. As soon as they got off the car, they saw Sun Kaicheng and their third uncle waiting not far away.
Qian Xiao waved and ran over: "Third Uncle, how did you know I was coming back today?"
“This wasn’t Chengcheng’s idea. I was thinking about how you would get back with so much luggage, so it would be best to come and pick you up.”
Qian Xiao looked at Sun Kaicheng: "Are you resting or on leave? Aren't you busy with work?"
“I’ve been saving up all my vacation days. I was thinking that you would definitely want to go back to the village when you come back, so I’ll go back with you. When it’s time for work, we can come back together together.”
Qian Sanbao curled his lip and said, "Don't think no one knows what you're thinking. If it weren't for our old lady's approval, do you think you'd even have a chance to get close to our Erdan?"
"Okay, my luggage has arrived?"
After starting university, Sun Kaicheng stayed by her side. They met frequently online during this year, and Qian Xiao was still a little unaccustomed to being alone with him all of a sudden.
"We've arrived. Everything's in your new home, but I haven't opened it yet. I was thinking you could unpack it yourself when you get back. If there's anything you want to take back, we can go to your new home first."
"Let's go back to the new house first. I haven't seen what it looks like yet, and I'm a little worried about it. You give Uncle directions, and we'll leave now. Let's hurry so it won't be dark by the time we get back to the village."
Qian Sanbao stared blankly at the two talking. What were they saying? He didn't quite understand. What new house? Had these two done something big behind the adults' backs?
Should I tell my family about this, or help Erdan keep it a secret? If my mother finds out, I'll probably be the one in trouble. But if I tell her, Erdan will be angry with me!
While Qian Sanbao was still struggling with his decision, he followed the directions of the two men and stopped in front of a house. The location of the land looked pretty good.
"Hey you two, explain this to me clearly, what's going on?" As an elder, it's not unreasonable for him to ask, right?
Qian Xiao slapped his forehead, almost forgetting that he hadn't told his family about this yet: "This is a house that I asked Sun Kaicheng to buy for me. I'm going to work at the machinery factory soon, and I thought I couldn't stay in the dormitory all the time. If I buy a house, I won't have to rush home when any of you come to visit me."
Qian Sanbao was utterly astonished: "W-you, what did you say? This, this, this is the house you bought? Where did you get the money?"
Although his mother was always generous with money, she would never give Erdan so much at once, otherwise no one in the family would have been unaware that Erdan had bought a house.
"Ah! Well, I took some jobs at school, like translation and stuff. It's the money I've saved up over the years," she said, while winking at Sun Kaicheng, as if to say, "Did you hear my reason?"
Sun Kaicheng always cooperated well with Qian Xiao, nodding in agreement: "Yes, I can vouch for that. Xiao Xiao has taken on some book translation work at the Foreign Languages Institute. Although the work is tiring, it pays quite well."
Qian Sanbao could at most recognize a basketful of characters, so he had no idea about these intricacies. However, it sounded quite impressive, and he nodded to indicate that he understood.
Wouldn't it be a little embarrassing if he said he didn't understand?
Qian Xiao quickly changed the subject: "Where's the key? Let's go in and take a look, and while we're at it, let's bring back the things we brought home."
Upon opening the gate, a neat little courtyard comes into view. Directly opposite the gate is a row of houses, which appear to have only three rooms. The one in the corner is probably the kitchen. It's truly a very exquisite little courtyard, perfect for three people; any more than that would feel cramped.
However, Qian Xiao was very satisfied. She didn't need such a big house since she lived alone; it would feel empty and desolate.
"There's also a small backyard, where the toilet is. I tidied it up a bit to make it cleaner. There's also a small plot of land where I can grow some vegetables, which is enough for one person."
Qian Xiao peeked out and said, "No rush. We can take our time when we get back and fix anything that's not right."
"Which room is the item in?"
"The room in the middle."
Unlike Qian Xiaoxin, Qian Sanbao didn't have a big heart. He carefully inspected the house inside and out. It was obvious that the house had been cleaned up. Even the toilet was cleaned without any smell. The doors and windows looked very sturdy. It was just that the furniture was missing some small items.
He should remember to make it for his second brother when he gets back, so that Erdan won't have to spend money to buy it himself. Things in the city are expensive and everything requires coupons, which isn't worth it.
Qian Xiao glanced at it briefly, then quickly grabbed his things and the three of them hurried towards the village. The oxcart was too slow, and if they didn't hurry, it would really be dark by the time they reached the village.
When Qian Xiao arrived home, she saw her grandfather sitting on a large rock by the door smoking, and her grandmother standing on tiptoe, looking towards the village entrance. Every time Qian Xiao saw this scene, her heart would warm. This is why she is so attached to her home.
In her past life, it was only after her parents passed away that she realized how important parents and relatives are to a family.
Qian Xiao jumped off the oxcart and hugged her grandmother tightly. The old lady was now only about as high as her shoulder. "Grandma, your eldest granddaughter is back! Did you miss your eldest granddaughter?"
Grandma Qian blushed as she was hugged, and patted her eldest granddaughter's back: "Let go quickly, what kind of behavior is this? Are you not leaving this time? Have you been assigned a job? Where are you going to work?"
