Chapter 15 Bald Head

Leaving this family in the village would be a problem sooner or later; only by sending them all away can people feel at ease.

Qian Xiao is resilient. In just seven days, it was as if the injury had never happened. She was already lively and energetic. If it weren't for the old lady keeping a close eye on her, she would have run out to play long ago.

The sun was shining brightly today, and Qian Xiao was complaining that his head was practically infested with lice and he wanted to wash his hair. After asking Old Zhang, he was told that he could wash it now, and he's sitting in the yard waiting for hot water.

Because the back of his head was injured, the hair around the wound was cut off, and his head looked like it had been chewed by a dog. Qian Xiao glanced at it in the basin of water, and with his hair being greasy from not washing it for a week, it was simply unbearable to look at.

"Mom, please shave my head. Look at the back of my head, the hair on top is better left bald."

“Why would a little girl like you shave her head? Look at other girls, they look so cute with their braids. If you cut it, it won’t grow back.” The current length of her daughter’s hair is the result of her insistence that it hasn’t been cut any shorter.

It's like her daughter has a grudge against hair. Everyone else's daughter looks better with long hair, but her daughter must have been given the wrong gender by the King of Hell.

"But I look so unsightly like this, I might as well cut them all off and grow them back together. Mother, please cut them for me." She was always hungry and didn't have the energy to braid her hair every day.

"What are you cutting?" The old lady had just come out and hadn't heard what was said in front of her.

Li Guizhi said helplessly, "Mother, it's your eldest granddaughter who wants to shave her head."

"What? Why shave your head? What kind of weather is this? It's going to snow in a few days. Your head will freeze if you shave it!"

"Grandma, look at the back of my head. Even with long hair, it can't cover the back of my head anymore. I might as well cut it all short and grow it back slowly."

The old lady glanced at the back of her eldest granddaughter's head. It was cut messily and there were bloodstains on it. The blood had turned into black patches stuck to the hair, making it look rather unsightly. But then she thought that her eldest granddaughter was only seven years old, so there was no rush to grow her hair out.

"Then cut it. Your mother can make you a hat so you can keep warm."

The six boys stood in a circle watching their mother (the eldest sister) shave her eldest sister's head, each one extremely serious, as if they were witnessing something very important.

"Mom, shave my head too, so it'll be easier to wash later," San Dan suggested.

Si Dan chimed in, "Mom, I want the same hairstyle as my sister."

Five Eggs and Six Eggs nodded their little heads, saying, "We want to be like Big Sister too."

Seven Eggs and Eight Eggs didn't understand anything yet, they just nodded along.

Li Guizhi found it hilarious; the younger children idolized their eldest sister immensely, and they wanted to emulate her in every way.

"Why cut it? It's cold, having hair will keep you warmer. We'll shave your head in the summer."

If her mother-in-law hadn't agreed, she wouldn't have let her daughter shave her head. Have you ever seen a daughter with a shaved head?

"Yes, Mother is right. You all need to be good. We'll cut your heads when it gets warmer." It was as if shaving your heads was a reward.

As long as their eldest sister speaks, all six children listen attentively, nodding their little heads, believing that whatever their eldest sister says is right.

"Grandpa, where's your razor? I need to give it to my mother so she can shave me."

If it weren't for the scar on Qian Xiao's head, Li Guizhi would have almost hit her daughter: "Why are you shaving? You're not going to be a monk, why are you shaving so smooth? Just shut up for a second."

The old man disagreed, saying that no proper young lady had her hair shaved so neatly: "Your mother is right, I think it's fine like this, and she can keep her hair in a braid later."

The only thing that makes his granddaughter look like a girl is her two little braids. How will she find a husband if she doesn't look like a girl?

Qian Xiao's features are almost identical to those of his previous life, the only difference being that they are slightly sharper. If it weren't for his signature two braids, he would look exactly like a young man, and at first glance, you might mistake him for a refined young gentleman.

Despite being rejected, Qian Xiao wasn't discouraged: "Fine, I'll listen to you, can I go up the mountain tomorrow?" She was so bored; she was never the type to stay home quietly.

"Why go up the mountain? You should take good care of yourself and not let this cause you any chronic illness."

Two men in military uniforms entered the village; they were both very tall and looked quite intimidating.

"That guy up ahead looks kind of familiar," an old woman said, squinting at the soldier in front of her.

"Oh my god, aren't you Uncle's eldest son, Qian Dabao?" A middle-aged woman slapped her thigh; she was younger and had a good memory.

"They changed their name; now they're called Qian Jiefang." I remember last time I came back, they emphasized that Jiefang sounded better than Dabao; it sounded more imposing.

"Right, right, how could I forget? The name 'Liberation' is better; it sounds so grand."

"Jiefang, you're back to visit your family? It's been quite a few years since you've been back." Some malicious people even thought that the eldest son of the Qian family had a family outside, and they made it sound very convincing, saying that it would be impossible for him not to come back for so many years.

"Oh, Aunt Wu is sunbathing. She came back during her holiday to visit her parents and children. I'll head back now."

"Go back quickly, your family is missing you."

The man next to Qian Jiefang was tall and strong, just like Qian Jiefang. He nudged Qian Jiefang and asked, "You used to be called Qian Dabao?"

Good heavens, this name is hilarious! This soft, whiny name just doesn't match the image of Qian Jiefang in front of him at all.

The person who came back with Qian Jiefang, who is also Qian Xiao's father, was Zhang Heping, Qian Jiefang's comrade-in-arms and good friend. The two of them came back this time after finishing a mission and took the opportunity to visit the Qian family.

Qian Jiefang rolled his eyes at Zhang Heping: "What's wrong with that? That's how much my parents cherish me, what do you know?"

"Alright, alright, you know what you're doing, right? By the way, I heard your eldest daughter is already seven years old? About the same age as my eldest son. How about we arrange a marriage between our children? With my wife and me being such good people, we definitely won't let your daughter have a hard time."

"Come on, my daughter is so young, I'm not in a hurry. If she gets married in the future, it has to be someone she likes. Arranged marriages are not allowed now."

"What, are you implying that you don't like my son anymore?"

"What do you think I'd like to see in a snotty, scruffy little brat? If you had a daughter, would you be willing to marry her off to someone like that?" Old Zhang's son was quite unsightly, always sporting two big snotty noses; he couldn't stand him.

Zhang Heping thought of his eldest son, who was almost seven years old, still had two snotty noses and was always dirty. He really couldn't stand him.

Wait a minute, that's my own son, how could I possibly dislike him?
