Chapter 129 The Old Father's Worries

"We can't eat to our heart's content anymore. For now, we can only eat until we're about 70% full. Sigh, you know, we've only had a few good days!"

Sure enough, not long after the drought, that movement started, and it would take nearly twenty years before we would truly have good days. She was destined to suffer!

Thinking of the bags of grain in his space, Qian Xiao suddenly felt relieved. There were no seasons in the space, and the temperature seemed to be constant. If he planned well, he could grow two and a half crops a year, which would be enough to feed his large family.

However, the source of this grain is uncertain. When the family is truly out of food and supplies, it would be possible to send a small amount home.

After staying here for about ten days, Qian Xiao should leave. It will take another two or three days by train to get to Longcheng. Thinking about the environment on the train, Qian Xiao had a rebellious thought that it was better not to study at all.

Why did she have to be so stubborn and go to study so far away just to get into the best university? Vanity is no good; if you want to be vain, you have to put your body through hardship.

Her father saw her off on the train with lots of bags and packages, while her mother brought out two more large bags. Luckily, her father was of high enough rank to get her a sleeper ticket and even found someone to take care of her on the way.

"Have you remembered what your father told you?" Qian Jiefang, the old father, was extremely worried.

"Don't worry, Dad, I've remembered everything you said. I will never talk to strangers, and I will never eat anything given to me by others. I will call you as soon as I arrive to let you know I'm safe."

Qian Jiefang nodded in satisfaction. Although his daughter was young, he was very confident in her ability to handle things: "The person I introduced you to earlier is the train conductor. If you need anything, just go and find him."

Qian Xiao nodded. She could understand her father's worries. If her own child were so young and traveling far away in the current state of public safety, she probably would have gone with him.

"Father, don't worry, I will arrive safely. You can go down now, don't worry too much about me."

Qian Jiefang waited until the train whistle before getting off. He didn't leave but stood at the window watching his daughter until the train had gone quite a distance before walking out of the train station. Now he truly understood the worries his parents had for him over the years.

Qian Xiao blinked her slightly sore eyes before she had a chance to look at the sleeper car. The sleeper cars nowadays weren't as nice as they were in later years. They looked more like dormitories, except that most people who could afford to sit in a sleeper car were quite capable.

They were relatively well-mannered, and Qian Xiao didn't have any social awkwardness. She really didn't think she could chat enthusiastically with a stranger. When you're out and about, it's best to talk less.

She remained silent, clearly a child, so naturally no adults would bother to talk to her. Even if one or two were talkative, Qian Xiao's indifferent attitude meant no one would bother with a child like her.

One advantage of the sleeper berth is that there are far fewer people than in the regular carriages. At least, no one brings livestock on board, and the smell is relatively less. She followed the principle of eating, drinking, and talking less, and successfully reached her destination.

This is the final stop. Qian Xiao didn't rush to squeeze off the train with the others. After everyone had left, she slung her bundled luggage over her shoulders, one in front of the other. This time, she was determined not to get stuck at the door.

I got off the train smoothly and looked around to see people everywhere. That's the downside of big cities—too many people are an eyesore. I carefully checked my bearings and headed towards the exit.

Although she looked rather small and was quite conspicuous carrying so much luggage, it was a train station after all, and there were many people like her, so she didn't attract much attention.

Just as Qian Xiao approached the exit, an old woman stopped her: "My darling, why are you so disobedient? Why don't you come back with your mother? Whatever you want, your mother will sell everything she owns to buy it for you, okay?"

Qian Xiao was completely bewildered. Looking closely, one could even see a flicker of eager excitement deep within her eyes. Good heavens! Had she run into human traffickers? So, even back in the old days, human traffickers were already using this tactic!

The old lady had her hair neatly combed, and a round face. At first glance, you could see a kind face on her wrinkled face. Her clothes had several patches, and she looked like an ordinary old lady living an ordinary life.

Believe it or not, looking at it this way, she really did recognize the old lady. It was on the train. The old lady was carrying a teacup of water and wandering around the carriage, saying a few words to everyone she met, as if she were very sociable.

Did they already have their eye on her on the train? They couldn't make a move because she knew people on the train, so they've been following her ever since? That's a bit too persistent, isn't it? Is it because she's too beautiful?

Double Egg stared blankly at the scene outside the space. Could this be the human traffickers the host was talking about? There were no human traffickers in their interstellar space. So human traffickers were no different from normal people!

No, this is a human trafficker! It seems to be a human trafficker heading straight for its host. What if the host is actually kidnapped? Where is Sun Kaicheng? Didn't he promise to come and help it pick up its host? Why did he break his promise? No, it has to go and ask Sun Kaicheng.

While Qian Xiao was thinking about this, the old lady thought she had been frightened by the girl. As long as she was frightened, things would go much more smoothly.

The old lady cried her eyes out, perfectly portraying a helpless and heartbroken mother: "My darling, I promise you, okay? I'll buy you whatever you want from now on. Come home with me, your father has fallen ill from missing you so much."

As she spoke, the old lady glanced discreetly at the several large bags Qian Xiao was carrying. She had secretly touched them all and scanned them; they were all filled with valuable items, worth more than the girl herself. Thinking this, she also glanced at the crowd surrounding them.

Train stations are always crowded, especially the exit area. People from China have this gene that seems to go straight to the action, and within two sentences, Qian Xiao and the old lady were surrounded by people.

While Qian Xiao was thinking about random things, she didn't miss the old lady's subtle glance. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a burly man nodding at the old lady. Was this his accomplice?

Qian Xiao put down her luggage to avoid delaying things when she started working.
