Chapter 9 The Hot Water Incident

Chapter 9 The Hot Water Incident

Seeing the satisfied look in Wei Yong's eyes, Sun Yiyi knew she hadn't done anything wrong. She had just married into the family, and her priority was to win over her husband and gain the approval of her in-laws, rather than going out to find a job on her own. If she found a job, that would be fine, but if she didn't, it would become a joke.

After the meal, Sun Yiyi cleared the dishes, and Wei Yong said apologetically, "I'm sorry to have troubled you. My mother has had a very difficult time these past few years, and I want her to have an easier time in the future."

“Your mother is also my mother, and I will take good care of her,” Sun Yiyi said confidently.

"I knew I hadn't misjudged you. You're much better than Zhou Xiangyang's wife," Wei Yong exclaimed.

He specifically chose to marry a woman from the countryside because he valued her diligence and obedience. If Sun Yiyi were to also insist on going out to work, he might as well marry a city woman.

Sun Yiyi blushed with embarrassment. She suddenly felt that it was good for Lin Yuanshu to continue to cause trouble. The more trouble she caused, the more her good qualities would be highlighted.

Then she felt ashamed of her thoughts. How could she use Lin Yuanshu's badness to highlight her own goodness? No, she couldn't just watch Lin Yuanshu walk down a dead end. She still hoped that Lin Yuanshu could have a better life than she had in her previous life.

After talking with Zhou Dafu, Lin Yuanshu took Zhou Xiangyang back to the room. The eldest brother and Sister-in-law Xue still do not know the significance of their joining. Under their father's authority, even if they have nothing to do, they dare not leave.

Lin Yuanshu looked through the books Zhou Xiangyang had brought back. They were quite diverse, including "Red Flag Fluttering," which tells the story of revolutionary veterans, literary works such as "The Bright Sun" and "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," and foreign classics such as "How the Steel Was Tempered."

Zhou Xiangyang saw Lin Yuanshu looking through the books he had borrowed and nervously walked over. Before he could speak, Lin Yuanshu spoke first: "Can I borrow one of these books?"

Zhou Xiangyang paused for a moment, then nodded.

Lin Yuanshu took "Red Flag Fluttering" from the desk. She had heard of the other books, so she decided not to read them for the time being. What she needed were books that could help her better integrate into society.

After reading for a while, she went out to boil water for a foot bath. She couldn't accept everyone taking turns using the same basin of water to soak their feet. When Zhou Ma saw her carrying her own washbasin, she couldn't help but say, "You're so fussy."

"I'm not being fussy, I'm just trying to avoid cross-infection. What do you mean by cross-infection? Some people have smelly feet, and some people don't. If you wash smelly feet with smelly feet in the same water, there might be a problem..." Lin Yuanshu said in a serious tone, spouting nonsense.

Zhou Ma was getting dizzy from Lin Yuanshu's nagging. Thinking of Zhou Dafu's smelly feet, she suddenly didn't want to soak in the water with him anymore.

Upon hearing Lin Yuanshu's words, Zhou Xiangyang took out a wooden bucket from the room, pointed at the bucket, and gestured for Lin Yuanshu to scoop water into it.

Lin Yuanshu scooped up his own wash water, then shoved the gourd ladle into Zhou Xiangyang's hand, saying in a serious tone, "Do your own thing."

Zhou Xiangyang wasn't angry; instead, he obediently scooped water himself.

Zhou's mother couldn't stand it anymore and complained, "What a spineless person, always listening to women."

Lin Yuanshu nodded in agreement and said with a smile, "That's right, I told you not to listen to your mother, but you wouldn't listen. Now look what happened! You're useless."

Zhou Ma: "..."

Seeing this, Sister-in-law Xue was very tempted. She didn't want to wait for others to finish washing their feet before she could wash hers, and the hot water would turn cold. So she simply took a wooden bucket from her room. If her father asked, it would be Lin Yuanshu's fault.

Although Zhou Dafu was very unhappy that everyone was washing separately, he thought about becoming the group leader and wanted his second wife to come up with some ideas, so he forced himself to suppress his dissatisfaction.

After washing her face, Lin Yuanshu took the washbasin to the toilet. It was summer, so there was no need to soak her feet every day. A quick rinse was enough. She was wearing plastic sandals anyway, which were very convenient. She would buy a foot bath tub when she earned more money.

Although Zhou Xiangyang was willing to give her money, she was too embarrassed to shamelessly buy things. It wasn't her own money, so it just didn't feel right to use it.

Although the neighbors disliked Zhou Ma, they still quite liked Lin Yuanshu; no one could resist a girl who always had a smile on her face.

After washing up, Lin Yuanshu went to boil water to wash his underwear and the original owner's dirty clothes.

"Why are you boiling water again? Didn't you just boil hot water?" Zhou Ma scolded loudly. She was about to take the coal stove back to the living room when she saw Lin Yuanshu fiddling with it again.

Lin Yuanshu said innocently, "I'm washing clothes."

"Good heavens! Don't you know you should wash clothes with cold water? Who taught you to wash clothes with hot water? Don't honeycomb briquettes cost money?!" Zhou Ma shouted, hands on her hips.

Lin Yuanshu sighed and said softly, "I don't think cold water can clean it properly. Sigh! Mom, is this how you treat someone who has made a difference? It's heartbreaking! My heart is colder than ice in winter! Utterly cold."

When she was a child in the countryside, her grandmother would wash clothes with hot water and then rinse them with cold water to remove the foam. So people of her generation washed clothes that way too. She never expected that they would be even more frugal and wash clothes directly with cold water.

Zhou Ma rolled her eyes and was about to continue her tirade when Zhou Dafu walked out, shook his head at her, and said, "If it's burning, it's burning. Don't make a fuss. The neighbors are probably asleep by now. Don't make any more noise or you'll wake them up."

Zhou Ma reluctantly shut her mouth, and before leaving, she gave Lin Yuanshu a sharp look, as if to say that this matter was not over.

Lin Yuanshu shrugged indifferently. As long as Zhou Ma was willing to get along with her, she was also willing to shake hands and make peace. But now it seemed a bit difficult. Zhou Ma seemed to be sick, constantly looking at her and finding fault.

She was never married in her past life, so she doesn't know if her mother-in-law is still alive. Anyway, in novels and TV dramas, mothers-in-law always seem to act like this, not like human beings.

After washing the clothes, Lin Yuanshu hung them out to dry on the balcony outside the corridor, then returned to her room to rest. She lay half-reclined on the bed and read a book.

Zhou Xiangyang sat at his desk reading a book. He secretly glanced at Lin Yuanshu and thought that marrying a wife wasn't as bad as he had imagined. She wasn't like his mother, who made all sorts of demands. She wouldn't yell at him or scold him. Instead, she would praise him for being responsible.

Lin Yuanshu was completely oblivious to Zhou Xiangyang's subtle actions; she was simply craving fried chicken, hamburgers, braised pork, barbecue, ribs, her cell phone, TV dramas, and so on.

"Bleach Elementary School Student" and "The Man Who Wants to Be the Pirate King" are still unfinished, how could she transmigrate like this?! Just thinking about it makes me want to cry.
