Chapter 152: Family Massacre

The next day, the first rays of light from the sky shone on the sleeping Ye Xin's face as the dawn broke.

She frowned and opened her eyes impatiently, "Xingchen, what time is it now?"

"Master, it's 1:00 AM now. The curfew in the county town below has been lifted."

Ye Xin sat up from the flying carpet, went into the space to wash up briefly, then changed into a pink and white skirt and walked out.

She started the flying carpet and flew towards the county town below.

The avenue outside the county town was bustling with people, and merchants from all over the place came in an endless stream. They stood on the blue brick road, queuing up waiting to be inspected by the soldiers guarding the city.

At the end of a line, a girl in a pink and white dress stood there without anyone noticing.

The girl lowered her head and said nothing. She did not make any noise with others and there were no relatives or friends around her. She just sat there quietly fiddling with the documents in her hand.

Several people in the team next to them stopped talking. They looked at the young girl with some surprise.

A little girl goes out alone without any accompaniment. How can her family be so confident in her?

Ye Xin lowered her head, oblivious to the gazes. While playing with the jade token in her hand, she also paid attention to inquiring about the document of the person in front of her.

The document in her hand was drawn by her on a jade tablet. Although there were some slight differences in the pattern, it should be able to blend in.

If that doesn't work, she can only use illusion.

However, the gatekeeper was just an ordinary person, and the side effects of the illusion were quite severe for him, making it difficult to deal with them later.

After waiting for a long time, the team finally reached Ye Xin's turn. She handed the document in her hand to the soldier and then waited for their questioning.

The soldier guarding the city was stunned after receiving the document. He stretched his head to look behind her and asked, "Miss, have you lost your family?"

Ye Xin shook her head, "No, it's just me."

Hearing her say this with certainty, the soldier's face suddenly turned ugly.

Seeing this, Ye Xin's heart skipped a beat, thinking that maybe her forged documents had been discovered!

So, without waiting for anyone to speak, she started plan B with a flash of her eyes.

The soldier was caught off guard by her gaze, his eyes dazed and he swallowed back the words he was about to say. Feeling dizzy, he returned the document to Ye Xin and stepped aside to let the other person in.

When Ye Xin passed by the soldier, he moved his fingers slightly, and a light yellow dot of light entered his head.

After the pale yellow light came in, the soldier's eyes began to clear up. He scratched his head, as if he had forgotten what had just happened. He put down the fence on his side and continued to wait for the next person to enter the city.

However, he always felt like he had forgotten something.

.......

"Steamed buns, steamed buns, hot buns fresh out of the pan..."

“Wontons, wontons, wontons with thin skin and big fillings…”

"Sir, we have Drunken Duck in our restaurant today. Would you like some?"

Inside the county town, the hawkers' cries were incessant. A stall selling steamed buns and another selling wontons seemed to be at odds with each other, each shouting louder than the other in an attempt to attract customers.

Ye Xin had just walked past the stall selling steamed buns when she was called over by the vendor selling wontons.

As soon as she walked over, the wonton shop owner said nothing, but scooped up a small chicken soup wonton and placed it in front of her.

"Girl, come and try my wontons. They're made with broth. I guarantee you'll be hooked."

The delicious smell of the chicken soup made Ye Xin feel a little hungry. She picked up the wontons and took a bite. The fresh and crispy texture really whetted her appetite.

She took out a piece of silver and casually slapped it on the table. "Boss, give me a bowl of wontons, and cook me another twenty bowls and send them to room three at Tianyi Inn. Don't worry about the rest of the money."

Ye Xin's generous attitude made the wonton owner laugh so hard that his eyes almost disappeared. He picked up the silver on the table and said "good" several times.

He glanced at the small vendor selling buns next to him, smiled triumphantly, and went to cook wontons with a happy face.

The bun vendor was so angry that his eyes were about to burst into flames. If he had known that the girl was so generous, he would have forced a bun on her no matter what.

If others don’t buy it, he will only lose money on one bun. If they buy it, he will earn money on thousands of buns.

Before long, a large bowl of chicken wonton soup was served in front of Ye Xin.

The wonton shop owner wiped the sweat from his forehead and said to Ye Xin earnestly, "Miss, the wontons are ready."

Ye Xin looked at the full bowl of wontons and smiled at the boss, "Well, thank you, boss."

The wonton shop owner blushed and waved his hands hastily, "Girl, this is impossible. It's just a bowl of wontons. No need to thank me. Just eat it first. If you need anything, just call me."

After saying that, the boss returned to the stall with a red face and continued to cook the twenty bowls of wontons.

Ye Xin glanced over and saw that the bowl prepared by the boss was almost the same size as the one in her hand. She smiled lightly and lowered her head to continue eating wontons.

"Uncle Wu, give us two bowls of wontons."

A rough voice sounded in Ye Xin's ears. She looked up and saw two men dressed as constables sitting down next to her.

They sat on the stools, took off their hats, and placed them heavily on the ground along with the swords in their hands.

The wonton shop owner, called Uncle Wu, responded, scooped up the cooked wontons, and added two large bowls of wontons.

His hands kept moving, packing and talking to the two men at the same time.

"Ergou, where have you been? It's been a while since I've seen you two brothers come to my place to eat wontons."

The man called Ergou was the one who spoke just now. He said "Hi" as if he remembered something unlucky.

"Uncle Wu, please stop talking. What else could possibly happen between us two brothers? It's just those tragic cases of families being wiped out before."

Ye Xin stopped drinking soup, tilted her head and pricked up her ears.

A tragic incident of annihilating a whole family, and several families at that. Who could be so unlucky?

Uncle Wu served the two brothers a bowl of chicken soup. A chill ran down his spine as he heard about the family massacre. "Has the murderer still not been found? It's been several months."

His voice trembled a little. This family massacre was known to almost everyone in the county, and the murderer had not been caught yet. They were scared whenever they thought about it.

"Uncle Wu, if only it were that simple." Ergou finished his chicken soup in one gulp and wiped the soup stains from the corners of his mouth with the back of his hand. "To be honest, this murderer has acted so arrogantly and hasn't revealed any clues yet. We suspect he's already fled far away."

The other man drinking the soup nodded in agreement. "Yes, Uncle Wu, don't be too scared. This man has killed several families. No matter how courageous he is, he won't be able to come back if he is discovered."

Uncle Wu clutched his chest in fear and returned to the stall to serve the cooked wontons to the two brothers. "I hope so. I don't want to live in fear every night anymore."

The three of them were still talking, and no one noticed that the girl at the table next to them had left...
