Chapter 251 Lantern Festival

As soon as the two sisters arrived at the place where the lantern festival was held, Li Shuyao was stunned by the bustle in front of her.

She still remembered that the last time she came to the Lantern Festival was when she was eleven years old. Her parents brought her along that time. Five years later, when she came here again, the Lantern Festival was no longer the same as before.

It really is, it’s so beautiful.

On the streets, all kinds of things were placed on the stalls, and lanterns were hung above their heads, extending in clusters towards the final lantern festival gathering point.

There is almost a riddle under each lantern. Many people have already started guessing the riddles. Every time they guess one correctly, the stall owner will take down a lantern and give it to them.

As soon as Yuan Tianwei arrived, she fell in love with several beautiful lanterns and kept holding Li Shuyao's hand and swaying them.

She remembered that Sister Yao said she would guess the most beautiful lantern for her. There were so many lanterns that she was dazzled.

Li Shuyao secretly pinched the purse in her sleeve, wondering if the silver she brought was enough.

Before leaving, her mother gave her and Yaoyao one or two taels of silver each and told them to buy whatever they liked. Now, looking at so many beautiful things at the lantern festival, she suddenly wanted to buy them all.

But with so many things, one or two taels of silver is definitely not enough.

Although the family already had a little money, she really couldn't bring herself to ask her mother for more money.

Yuan Tianwei saw Li Shuyao's entanglement, took her hand and touched the purse on her waist, "Sister Yao, don't worry, we don't have enough money. My mother secretly gave me ten taels of silver before she left."

"Because she was afraid that her aunt would not agree, she left the money with me and asked me to give it to you privately. We can buy whatever we like later."

Li Shuyao was startled and looked at her in astonishment, "Weiwei, isn't this too much?"

Yuan Tianwei didn't take it seriously and patted her purse proudly, "Don't worry, my mother is rich. She lets us spend it without worrying about it. She definitely won't care about this little bit of money."

Seeing that Li Shuyao was still hesitant, she simply pulled her to a rouge stall and said, "Sister Yao, please take a look at what's suitable for us. We can buy some and then go to the next stall."

Li Shuyao really couldn't resist Yuan Tianwei's enthusiasm, so she had to look at these rouge and powder carefully.

The owner of the rouge and powder stall was a white-haired old lady. She looked at the two lively and pretty girls with her cloudy eyes and took the initiative to point to the two best-selling boxes of rouge on the stall.

"Girls, these are the two best rouges we have. If you like them, you can buy a box and take them home to see."

As she spoke, she took out two boxes of opened rouge from a square wooden box. "These two boxes are tried-and-tested rouge. If you don't mind, you can try them."

Li Shuyao took the two boxes of rouge, placed her hands on them and fanned them gently towards herself.

"Weiwei, these two boxes of rouge smell really good to me. Come and smell them."

Yuan Tianwei leaned over, dipped her finger in a little powder, brought it to the tip of her nose and sniffed it carefully.

It's not that she was showing off on purpose, but it was a habit she had developed over the years. When she saw anything powdery, she couldn't help but want to guess the ingredients inside.

After smelling it for a while, Yuan Tianwei nodded affirmatively, "Sister Yao, it's good. I smell the fragrance of many flowers in it. Let's take these two boxes!"

"I knew it! You girls will definitely like this." When the old lady heard they wanted two boxes, she smiled so much that two wrinkles appeared at the corners of her eyes. "This is made by my daughter-in-law and granddaughter every day using flower petals. I guarantee that we don't use anything that is not worthy of being used on the table."

The old lady was very skillful and soon she picked out two boxes of rouge and powder carved with lotus flowers and placed them in a small wooden box. "Little girl, one box of rouge is fifty coins, so two boxes will be a hundred coins."

When Li Shuyao heard that it cost one hundred coins, she was a little surprised.

This seems a bit expensive! She remembered that rouge only cost a dozen coins in the past.

She was just about to pull Yuan Tianwei aside to say a few words, but Yuan Tianwei had already taken out two coins and said, "Grandma, then give me those two boxes. Two boxes each for me and my sister."

"Okay, okay."

The old lady who owned the stall smiled again, and immediately found two more boxes of rouge, also put them in a cloth bag and handed them to Yuan Tianwei.

She really came at the right time to attend this Lantern Festival.

My granddaughter was right. These things only sell better during the Lantern Festival than usual.

Look, she sold two boxes just after setting up the stall. They have been working day and night to make rouge these days, and she feels sad when she sees it.

Her son died early, and this old woman depended on her daughter-in-law and granddaughter for survival. She had been in poor health for many years and could not help much at home. She could only sell a few more boxes of rouge when she set up a stall.

When she returned home in the evening, she would bring a candied haws each for her granddaughter and daughter-in-law so that they could have a taste of it.

After buying the rouge, Yuan Tianwei was in a good mood and pulled Li Shuyao to the next stall.

On the way, Li Shuyao couldn't help but lean over to her ear and whispered, "Weiwei, isn't that rouge too expensive? Two boxes cost two hundred coins."

Yuan Tianwei burst out laughing and stuffed a small wooden box into her hand. "Sister Yao, don't worry. If all this money is spent, I still have some private money!"

She said the last sentence in a low voice. The private money she had saved over the years was a considerable sum.

Most of it was collected during the Chinese New Year, and some was given by her mother. She saved it all and didn't spend a penny.

Today, she finally came to the Lantern Festival alone with Sister Yao. She secretly brought a small amount out so that Sister Yao could enjoy herself to the fullest.
