Chen Youwei was a quiet person; after finishing breakfast, she sat quietly in her seat.
Gao Yan glanced at it and reminded him, "You can lower the backrest a bit; it will be more comfortable to lie down, since it will be more than ten hours."
"I don't know how to lower it."
Chen Youwei asked somewhat shyly.
Gao Yan naturally wouldn't laugh at her. Under his guidance, Chen Youwei lowered the backrest a bit and rested her back on it, which greatly improved her riding experience.
"Youwei, tell me about your family situation."
Gao Yan reiterated that since he doesn't speak up, Chen Youwei will likely remain silent indefinitely.
Chen Youwei nodded: "My maternal grandmother and younger sister are the only ones left in my family."
Gao Yan asked, "Where are your parents?"
Chen Youwei said, "When I was in junior high school, my parents went out to work and then got into a car accident. My maternal grandmother took care of my sister and me. The villagers saw how pitiful we were and helped us a lot."
Gao Yan asked curiously, "Didn't you receive any compensation for your parents' car accident?"
"No!"
Chen Youwei pursed her lips and shook her head: "They were riding in a private minibus. Almost everyone on the bus was involved in the accident, and the driver died as well, so there is no compensation!"
"How is your grandmother's condition?" Gao Yan changed the subject.
Chen Youwei's eyes lit up: "Grandma was discharged from the hospital yesterday. The doctor said she is recovering well and will be able to walk normally after two or three months of rest."
"That's good!" Gao Yan nodded. "Is your family from the city or the county?"
Chen Youwei said, "A village under Tonghua County."
As they chatted, Chen Youwei opened up and told Gao Yan about some things that happened in their village and some things that happened when she was a child.
Before we knew it, the car was on the highway.
Although Gao Yan didn't draw any driving skills, he was a master of internal energy, and his energy, reaction ability and judgment far exceeded those of ordinary people. He maintained a speed of 120 miles per hour, but it seemed quite stable.
During the journey, Gao Yan remembered that he had promised Fang Zhenzhen last night that he would inject 1 billion yuan into the company, so he had the system transfer 1 billion yuan to the company account.
In the blink of an eye, several hours had passed.
Gao Yan and Chen Youwei had long since ended their conversation, and Chen Youwei had already fallen asleep in her chair.
As for Gao Yan, he was pondering how to confront his adoptive parents.
Although his adoptive parents began to treat him differently after Gao Lang was born, they at least raised him and sent him to university.
He silently calculated that his adoptive parents must have given him over 100,000 yuan from childhood to adulthood, and if inflation were taken into account, it could be 200,000 yuan.
Before Gao Lang was born, he also enjoyed a brief period of family affection.
Although Gao Lang was treated differently after he was born and was often disliked by them, at least they never beat him, which was already quite good.
So, after thinking it over, he decided to give his adoptive parents one million to sever ties with them.
It was almost noon, and there was a service area about five kilometers away.
Gao Yan planned to eat and rest at the service area for a while before continuing his journey.
Soon, Gao Yan drove the car into the service area and woke Chen Youwei up again.
"Brother Yan, where are we?"
Chen Youwei asked, somewhat confused, that after their previous conversation, she had gotten used to calling Yan Ge (Brother Yan) more naturally.
Gao said, "We haven't left Yangdong Province yet, but we'll be there soon. It's noon now, let's have lunch and rest at this service area!"
Chen Youwei quickly said, "I heard that things are expensive at the service area, so I bought cold dishes, braised dishes, steamed buns, and instant noodles. I'll get them for you!"
"Alright!"
Gao Yan knew that the food at the service area was really bad and very expensive. Although he had money, he didn't want to spend money to suffer unless necessary.
Chen Youwei prepared a lot of things, including cold dishes such as cold mixed seafood and cold mixed pig's head, and braised dishes such as braised beef, braised duck neck, and dried tofu.
They also prepared boiled water.
Given Chen Youwei's frugal nature, she definitely wouldn't have bought so many things if she went back alone.
Therefore, these things must have been prepared by her specifically for Gao Yan.
Eating in the car is inconvenient and can easily leave a lingering smell.
So, the two of them went to the restroom separately.
Then they took their things and went to the rest area.
After eating and drinking and resting for a while, the two continued on their journey.
After sleeping for a few hours in the morning, Chen Youwei didn't sleep again on the rest of the journey, but instead stayed with Gao Yan and talked to him the whole time.
Finally, after more than eight hours.
The car exited the highway and entered Tonghua County.
Chen Youwei's village is not a remote mountain village; it is only five kilometers away from the county seat.
The village is called Lao Yang Village, and most of the villagers are surnamed Yang.
Chen Youwei's father married into Lao Yang Village. Before that, he was an orphan, so Chen Youwei did not have any grandparents.
Under Chen Youwei's guidance, Gao Yan drove the car to the outside of a cement bungalow.
In recent years, the country has increased its investment in rural development. Chen Youwei's family was classified as a poor household, and the house they lived in before was also a dilapidated building. Therefore, the government funded the construction of a cement bungalow for them.
People in rural areas have always gone to bed early.
When Gao Yan and his group arrived, it was already past nine o'clock, so Chen Youwei's maternal grandmother and younger sister were already asleep.
"Brother Yan, I'll go knock on the door!"
Chen Youwei got out of the car, knocked on the door, and called out, "Lingling, come down and open the door, it's your sister!"
To save on travel expenses, and because this was Chen Youwei's first time returning home since starting university, she seemed quite excited.
