Chapter 21 Encountering Danger Midway

The next night, it was almost midnight.

The train stopped at Shanhaiguan.

Shanhaiguan is known as the First Pass Under Heaven, but it's a man-made tourist attraction. Most of it was rebuilt in 1986, and the next bus you need to take will take another two hours to get there.

Fatty suggested going out to take a look, but Wu Xie immediately rejected the idea.

It's past midnight, and there's no moon. What's the point of looking at birds?

Cao Ya looked around and saw a large group of people from all over the country who were also transferring trains, carrying large and small bags as they entered the station waiting room.

It was already early winter, and the Spring Festival travel rush was in full swing. There were a lot of people, and although the travelers returning home were tired, they couldn't hide their excitement.

Cao Ya closed her nasal cavity and pores, and calmly walked into the waiting room.

Beside him, Wu Xie, Fatty, Pan Zi, and even that old guy Chen Pi Asi couldn't help but frown.

The station smelled terrible, and all sorts of people were spending the night there, some even sleeping on the floor with their bedding rolled up.

The group carefully followed the flow of people in, afraid of stepping on others.

Suddenly, Pan Zi pulled Wu Xie down to squat down.

Pan Zi lowered his voice and said, "There are cops around, so be careful."

It's unclear who Pan Zi and Wu Xie saw that triggered their sensitive nerves, but they cursed loudly and ran away.

"There!" In the waiting room, several bald men in plainclothes suddenly pointed at Wu Xie and Pan Zi and shouted.

"stop!"

Plainclothes officers rushed over to arrest Wu Xie and Pan Zi.

The group scattered and fled for their lives. Pan Zi's appearance and demeanor were very intimidating, and the passengers made way for him. However, when Wu Xie went over, they surrounded him, which made Wu Xie very annoyed.

The Silent One and Fatty slipped out from another direction.

Cao Ya leaned calmly against the wall as a group of plainclothes officers rushed past him, ignoring him.

They were not their target either.

The guy who made the identification didn't know Cao Ya either; they'd never met in person.

Seeing that a group of plainclothes officers and train police were about to block Wu Xie and Pan Zi, Cao Ya frowned slightly, tapped his finger twice, and an invisible current surged, pushing Wu Xie and Pan Zi.

As if divinely inspired, the two thought it was just due to their nervousness that they were in the right state of mind, so they didn't think much of it. Panzi pulled Wu Xie and tossed his head, indicating that they should go out through the railway tracks.

The waiting room was brightly lit, and many passengers witnessed the scene. They thought the men were some vicious criminals and were terrified. Suddenly, there was a commotion, with children crying and screaming. Many people squeezed towards the entrance, trying to escape the waiting room.

Wu Xie and Pan Zi squeezed their way out with the flow of people.

brush!

Cao Ya's figure flashed and he disappeared in an instant.

"Holy crap! Are we seeing things?!" Several passengers rubbed their eyes, a chill suddenly running down their spines. Damn it, are we seeing ghosts?!

Wu Xie, Pan Zi, Fatty, and Zhang Qiling reunited, and Wu Xie asked Cao Ya where she had gone.

The fat man replied, "Don't worry about him, that guy's shrewd. We all went in and he was fine."

Wu Xie was barely relieved. This whole thing was caused by him and Pan Zi, and he would feel bad if Cao Ya suffered an undeserved disaster.

As he spoke, Zhang Qiling patted the group on the shoulders and said, "Follow the old man."

Following the gaze of the Silent One, Chen Pi Asi was watching the group not far away, with several middle-aged men who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere standing beside him.

The Silent One walked straight toward him, and Wu Xie, Fatty, and Pan Zi had no choice but to bite the bullet and follow him.

When Chen Pi Asi saw the group approaching, he gestured to his men, who immediately dispersed into the crowd. He then turned and walked into the crowd himself.

As for where Cao Ya went, he couldn't be bothered to ask.

Who cares if Cao Ya lives or dies!

Under the cover of the crowd, the group finally escaped from Shanhaiguan Railway Station in the dark and arrived at a park. They stopped, looked at each other, and all of them looked grim.

This was truly an inauspicious start. They originally thought that by following the plan devised by Wu Sansheng's men, they could reach their destination without even having to think. However, in just two days, Wu Sansheng's bald-headed subordinate was caught, and he even personally brought the police to arrest them. With such loyalty and decades-old relationship, it seems that Wu Sansheng's judgment wasn't very good after all!

The bald man they pointed out was Wu Sansheng's old friend, or rather, his old buddy, who had settled everyone in Changsha.

It seems that this old friend is no longer of any use.

A group of people were squatting in the grass, resting. They all had furrowed brows and looked very unwell.

Chen Pi Asi glanced at Wu Xie, Fatty, and Pan Zi, then suddenly sneered. Just as he was about to speak, a hand landed on his shoulder.

Chen Pi Asi stiffened. Being a seasoned veteran, he remained calm and composed under pressure, speaking politely, "Friends, is it alright for us to find a place to stay?"

Wu Xie, Pan Zi, Fatty, and Zhang Qiling were all taken aback when they heard Chen Pi Asi's voice. Who was this old guy talking to?

If he were talking to those guys, this old man definitely wouldn't be so polite; you could tell from his expression just now.

"It's me." Cao Ya emerged from the shadows.

He seemed to have been standing there the whole time, waiting for others to come.

But no one noticed Cao Ya just now; it was as if they were all hallucinating and didn't see Cao Ya standing in that spot.

Pan Zi's eyes shifted. When he came over, out of vigilance and with the habits of a soldier, he looked around at all the places suitable for hiding people, but found nothing.

Where did Cao Ya come from?

Where did he just go?

"Damn it, where did you run off to?"

The fat man laughed and looked at Wu Xie, saying:

"Naive. I told you, Cao Ya is a clever guy. Among us, only Xiao Ge can compare to Cao Ya."

Wu Xie, Pan Zi, and even Chen Pi Asi all knew how powerful Zhang Qiling was, so they were all a little suspicious when they heard Fatty boasting about Cao Ya like this.

Damn it, could this guy have tricked Fatty?

"What kind of eyes are you looking at?" The fat man glared and puffed out his beard. "Who do you think I am? Do you think I'd misjudge someone? Let me tell you the truth, Cao Ya and I have been to tombs together. His skills... tsk tsk, he's practically a carbon copy of Xiao Ge, just with a slightly different style."

Then the fat man launched into a long, embellished story about his two experiences working in the fields with Cao Ya.

The group was stunned by what the fat man said.

Cao Ya chuckled, but didn't expose the fat man's lie, letting him boast until Wu Xie and the others realized what was going on.

That fat guy, when he's unpredictable, he really is unpredictable.

Of course, when it's reliable, it's truly reliable.

He released his left hand from Chen Pi Asi's shoulder.

Chen Pi Asi took two steps back and moved closer to Cao Ya. He always felt like his fur was standing on end, as if a lion was closely following him, making him uncomfortable all over.

He professionally sized up Cao Ya beside him.

Having spent so long on the train, I hadn't really observed this kid properly. He seemed unremarkable, like that fat Wang's lackey. Now it seems he's a real hidden talent.

Even someone as seasoned as Chen Pi Asi could be so naive as to misjudge someone.
