Chapter 28 Arrival
We had a safe journey and finally arrived at the gathering point three hours later.
The distribution point was established based on the Eastern New Economic Development Zone, where there is a large newly built residential area with densely packed buildings. There is also a separate sales center in the middle, which is suitable for use as a command center.
The person in charge is the deputy captain of the Provincial Armed Police Corps. He is in charge of two detachments and has reorganized various security forces of all sizes, totaling more than 7,000 people. He is responsible for evacuating nearly 100,000 survivors, and the pressure is very high.
The biggest problem at the distribution point right now is the lack of supplies and manpower, and zombies do not pose a big threat for the time being.
Although it was only established eight days ago, these soldiers have to rescue survivors, search for supplies, and manage the situation. They wish they could be split into four parts. Many of them have not had a good sleep for at least three days.
The Eastern University Town convoy is the last rescue route. Starting tomorrow, they will selectively go deeper and collect a large amount of supplies.
The tired people almost burst into tears as they looked at the distribution center where lights were still flashing in front of them.
After the initial blackout, the city experienced another large-scale power outage in the second week of the apocalypse. Now when I see some dim lights again, it feels as if a long time has passed.
Various military engineering vehicles were used to form a circle at the entrance of the distribution point, forming the first line of defense. The obstacle fences at the back were the real walls.
A sentry on a very tall car shone a high-powered beam of light, and someone nearby came over to direct the car to stop.
The leading armored team dispersed to both sides and went around to other entrances. The convoy behind followed the arrangements and divided the survivors into three groups.
Before driving away, Lu Shaoyang got out of the car and reported the situation to a superior-looking man at the door, then called Lin Cong over and the three of them chatted for a while.
Everyone entering the gathering place must be checked first, and those found to have a fever or be injured must be isolated for 24 hours, so the survivors got off the bus and lined up one after another.
The distribution center does not detain materials or vehicles, and private cars can drive directly to the specially designated parking lot outside to park.
After all, they will need to be arranged to drive along when the time comes. Military transport vehicles have to carry supplies and cannot accommodate so many people.
The group parked their car and arrived at the entrance. A somewhat dispirited Lin Cong finally rejoined the group. When it was their turn, each person was asked about their name, age, place of origin, and other common information, and finally a question about whether they had any special abilities was added.
Except for Lin Cong, everyone else answered no. The recorder entered the information into the computer and let them in for inspection.
Once a group of people are ready, someone will come and take them away to their assigned accommodation.
The elevators consumed too much electricity and were not used, so everyone was arranged to live in the bottom twenty floors of each high-rise building. Most of them were newly renovated, with men and women separated. A three-bedroom, one-living-room apartment could accommodate at least thirty people.
Gu Chao donated some supplies to the responsible supervisor and received a house, which they agreed to house eight people.
Few people were as wealthy as they were, so they were the only residents on the first floor. Although it was on the 21st floor, they would only stay there for two days, and since they were all strong and healthy, they were not afraid of climbing stairs.
Before going up, Yan Song and Gu Chao went to get today's water and food. Cheng Ming didn't know where to get the information, and Lin Cong was stopped by those students with special abilities.
The remaining few people had to go up first.
The house is very beautiful, with an area of over 100 square meters, two bathrooms, and complete furniture. It is basically a move-in ready type. In addition, except for gas, water and electricity are supplied within a limited time every day, the conditions are pretty good.
Originally, Lu Ming didn't want to live in the master bedroom. After all, she was the only girl there, and several people would live in the other two rooms. But when she thought about the fact that there was no bathroom in the room and it would be difficult to hide the fact that they had to go into the space to wash, she agreed. Anyway, she would leave soon.
Several men took the initiative to take charge of the cleaning work, while Lu Ming was responsible for cooking.
She first went to the kitchen and locked the door, then quietly entered the space and studied a guide to making home cooking dishes, and then took out all kinds of pots, bowls, chopsticks and ingredients.
After a tiring day, she didn't want to do anything complicated, so she prepared to cook two large pots of instant noodles using the induction cooker.
I sliced the luncheon meat and cut the braised eggs in half. I also cut a few potatoes and carrots collected from the cafeteria in case they got tired of it.
Cook the seasonings and vegetables until soft, then add the noodles and meat. By the time everyone comes back, the meal is almost done.
A few people who were out smelled the fragrance in the corridor, pushed the door open in a hurry, and were surprised to see the bursts of hot air. They ate biscuits and bread every day at school, and although they were not hungry, who wouldn't want to have a hot meal?
Lin Cong even shouted exaggeratedly: "Oh my God, it's a good thing there's no one around us, otherwise our meal would have been eaten by others before we even had a chance to eat it."
Lu Ming shouted from the kitchen, "Wash your hands quickly, it'll be ready soon. Someone come and help bring it over!"
Almost everyone rushed in, and in the blink of an eye, there was only air left on the stage. Even her own things were taken out by the help.
How could they let the girls help them carry the bowls? Everyone was vying to show off and almost got into a fight.
The dining table was too small, so everyone sat around on the sofa in the living room, eating their rich dinner with slurps.
Seeing them eating so fast that even Gu Chao had no time to talk, Lu Ming couldn't help but smile, "Eat slowly. If you don't have enough, there's more. Go get some and you can cook more after you're done. Don't save."
Yan Song finished eating first. He took a moment to look up and said, "Sister Luming's cooking skills are amazing. She's much more reliable than Ruirui and Xiaoyuan!"
The two people whose names were mentioned glared at each other while eating: It’s just cooking instant noodles, look at how you flatter me!
Lu Ming ate little, and after he finished eating, he didn't care about them. He put a pile of oranges and apples on the table, took out their toiletries and a pile of new clothes and put them in the bathroom, leaving them outside shouting and yelling.
After everyone finished eating, they all collapsed on the sofa, not wanting to move. They touched their stomachs and sighed, "I'm so happy! I haven't had a hot meal in days."
In fact, when they are on a mission, they can endure any hardship. Not to mention more than ten days, they can even remain calm if they don’t eat well for three months.
But when they are resting, everyone knows how to enjoy themselves.
Coincidentally, they had just finished a rather difficult mission and had not eaten properly for two months. They were planning to improve their food after returning, but then the evil doomsday came.
Before going to bed, everyone held a small meeting around the candles. One was to welcome Lu Ming and Yan Wei, then asked to keep Lu Ming's special ability secret, and finally talked about the arrangements for the next two days - they could move around freely, but not contact any forces, not join the army, and not cause trouble at the gathering place.
Everyone agreed, and Lu Ming brought them more quilts and pillows, saying that she would go to rest first, since it would definitely not be her turn to be on duty anyway.
Lu Ming entered the room, locked the bathroom door, and then strolled into the space with peace of mind.
It was night in the space at this time. There were suspended balls of light illuminating the sky, and a brilliant galaxy above the head, which was breathtakingly beautiful.
She sighed, thinking that only in the space could she truly appreciate the night view. Looking around, the space had completely changed. Over the past few days, the apple and banana trees had sprouted, and the vegetables were almost ripe. The greenery was truly lovely.
As for the chickens and ducks, the young ones have grown up, laid several clutches of eggs, and are strolling leisurely on the grass.
She thought that she would be able to eat fresh vegetables soon, so she reluctantly left and fell into a sweet dream.
