Chapter 31 Search and Rescue Operation for Family Members
Although there is no department store in this shopping mall, there is a supermarket on the third basement floor that specializes in selling imported meats such as steaks and lamb chops. The supermarket has a large stock and a wide variety of products, which makes Lu Ming very happy.
The layout of the other shops is similar to that of the previous building, with some new categories, such as cosmetics, men's and women's shoes, men's and women's clothing for all seasons, specialty roasted and marinated products, furniture, sports equipment, etc.
The top two floors are all restaurants, and as usual, all the intact food, seasonings, and cooking utensils in the kitchen have been emptied out.
She wiped her sweat, fortunately she didn't need to touch the supplies with her hands to collect them, she could rely on her consciousness within her visual range, otherwise, with so many things, her hands would have been crippled.
Seeing that it was almost time, she went back through the corridor, took out a bag, packed a few clothes in it, and carried two boxes of drinks she had looted from the snack bar downstairs.
It was getting late and they were resting. They took out some dry food and ate it quietly. Two soldiers near the stairs saw Lu Ming holding the box and hurried over to take it.
Lu Ming asked Lu Shaoyang to distribute drinks, but he was a little hesitant about whether to take them back. Lu Ming persuaded him that these drinks were not within their task scope and they did not quench their thirst, so it would not be of much use to bring them back.
Lu Shaoyang also felt sorry for these brats who hadn't had a rest for several days, so he arranged it without hesitation.
A group of young men were beaming with joy, holding the Coke in their hands.
Lu Ming looked at their youthful faces and suddenly felt sorry for them.
At this point, why should we still ask them to put others first in everything? They can save other people's families, but will anyone save their own families?
They may still be fantasizing that this is just a regional disaster, and once support arrives from other places and everything settles down, they can come back to find their relatives.
But Lu Ming knew that once they left City N, the most likely scenario was that they would say goodbye to their families forever.
She couldn't imagine how remorseful and desperate these people would be when they knew the truth.
But, did all this have anything to do with her? They themselves could accept this arrangement, so would it be considered meddling if she rashly reminded them?
Besides, what could she, an ordinary person without any special powers, do? She couldn't save anyone by relying on space.
But should she just do nothing? Will she regret it later?
After struggling for a long time, she suddenly decided to act impulsively. No matter what, she had no ties, so why not give it a try?
She pulled Lu Shaoyang aside and asked quietly, "Captain Lu, when do we expect to be back today?"
"Looking at this rate, it might be finished by three. What's wrong? Are you busy?"
"Do you have any other tasks next?"
"No, we have to assemble and prepare to depart the day after tomorrow, so each team will take turns to assemble today and tomorrow. We have already gone on a mission today, so we can assemble at the assembly center tomorrow."
"So, when you're not on a mission, do you restrict entry and exit?"
“It seems there is no such rule.”
"Are civilians allowed in and out?"
"This... doesn't seem to be stated clearly." No citizen would want to leave after coming here, right?
He was a little surprised, "What's wrong, you want to go out?"
Lu Ming looked at him, took a deep breath, and nodded firmly. "Captain Lu, I'll come help move the things later. You can use this time to write a list of family members."
"What...what family list?" Lu Shaoyang was a little confused.
"A list of your team members' family members, including their names, genders, ages, where they live, their characteristics, and places they frequently visit."
Lu Shaoyang couldn't hide his surprise, his heart beating wildly involuntarily, "You, what are you going to do?"
"When I get back, I'll ask my friends. If they're willing, I'll ask them to help me look for your family members. If they're not willing, I'll go with you alone."
Lu Shaoyang was a little flustered. "Is this okay? But, but there are so many family members, and it's been so long. Can we, can we find them with just a few of us?"
Especially in those densely populated communities, I’m afraid you can’t even get in?
"Well, what else? Are you not going to look for them? Hey, they are your family members, not mine. If you don't want to try, then just treat me as meddling."
He quickly shook his head. "No, that's not what I meant. We've wanted to go for a long time, but if we don't go on a mission, we won't have vehicles, weapons, or support. It would be useless even if we went."
Lu Ming looked at him calmly. "Don't worry. I have at least two buses here. As for the others, most of the zombies outside are still relatively slow. As long as we move quickly and carefully, there shouldn't be any big problems. We don't have time to make perfect preparations now. Save as many people as possible. Hurry and make the list. However, don't tell your teammates yet, because I don't know if my friends are willing to help. I don't want to let them get hope and then be disappointed. I'll go back later and give you an answer at the training ground entrance regardless of the result of my inquiry."
Lu Shaoyang looked at the petite girl in front of him, his eyes filled with warmth. He nodded, "Okay, I'll write it now. No matter what, thank you, Lu Ming."
He didn't know why, but looking into her eyes, he felt that this time, maybe it really could work.
-----------
The military truck drove back to the distribution center. As soon as Lu Ming came out of the inspection room, he saw a straight figure standing under a tree not far away.
The breeze blew his hair, and the simple black long-sleeved T-shirt made him look thin and strong, but under the slightly rolled-up sleeves, his tight and strong muscles were exposed. His straight long legs were slightly apart, one hand was in his pocket, and he lowered his head slightly, not knowing what he was thinking.
Lu Ming was a little surprised and hurried towards him. Before he got to him, he saw him looking up at him. His tense face relaxed slightly, as if he was relieved.
Gu Chao looked at the little girl's eyes filled with joy, and his originally angry mood of her missing for a whole day eased.
"Where have you been?" came his low voice.
"I'm going to help collect supplies." She blinked and looked at me with an expression that said "you know what I mean."
It's understandable, but it can't cover up her mistakes.
"Why didn't you tell us?"
Lu Ming thought about it and it seemed that everyone went out without saying anything. She stuck out her tongue guiltily and said, "Oh, I forgot. I just made the decision at the last minute... Haha, I will definitely tell you next time! Definitely!" She promised dryly.
Now I am a member of their team after all, it seems a bit too much to run away without saying a word.
Gu Chao was helpless. He couldn't beat or scold him. It was really harder to lead him than a hundred new team members.
He finally saw through the girl's words and realized that she was just a liar. She had promised him well last time, but what was the result?
"I have something to tell you."
"By the way, I have something to talk to you about!"
The two said in unison.
"You speak first."
"Then you speak first."
Once again in sync, the two looked at each other in surprise.
Lu Ming chuckled. She pulled out a notebook from her bag and handed it over, saying, "I want to help Lu Shaoyang and the others find their relatives tomorrow. This is the list of family members he wrote to me. I've looked at it, and the families of 28 team members are all in City N, a total of 63 people. I was wondering if you could help?"
Gu Chao took it and flipped it a few times, then looked at Lu Ming deeply, which made Lu Ming confused.
He curled his lips slightly, "Follow me."
