To be honest, being young is good. Influenced by this body which is younger and more fragile than his own in the real world, Fan Zhiyi fell into a deep sleep soon.
Even though he was still muttering before going to bed that he couldn't sleep and had to stay alert, but the sleepiness came over him. In addition, Fan Zhiyi had been running for so long, suffered so many frights, and was threatened and intimidated by the male protagonist. He had already reached his limit and had not yet adapted to the life here. He just felt tired. It would be strange if he didn't fall asleep.
However, Fan Zhiyi was cautious. He wanted to sleep and rest, but Baibai was not needed. Baibai was a high-tech device, so it would be a waste if he didn't use it. So Fan Zhiyi asked Baibai to keep watch, and he felt a lot more at ease.
He thought he could at least have a good rest, but not long after Fan Zhiyi fell asleep, he felt a cold breath climbing up his body along the seven-pointed star pattern on his arm. The coldness penetrated Fan Zhiyi's bones and seeped into his blood and internal organs, making him curl up into a ball and shiver.
But in the dream, Fan Zhiyi was running very fast. He was running through the jungle where he couldn't find the direction, with the wind whistling in his ears.
Run, don’t stop, keep running...
Fan Zhiyi said to himself that although he didn't know why he had to do this, he subconsciously felt that something terrible would happen if he stopped.
Fan Zhiyi didn't know which direction to go. The road seemed to have no end, and the weight on his back was getting heavier and heavier. Fan Zhiyi felt like he was suffocating, so he woke up with a start, only to find that he couldn't move.
The thunder outside was deafening, but in the fleeting light of lightning inside the house, Fan Zhiyi saw a woman hanging from the beam, her long hair dragging on the ground, her feet drooping, and she was swaying.
Her pale face was originally facing straight ahead, but slowly, slowly, it began to turn towards Fan Zhiyi, and then suddenly she grinned. Fan Zhiyi's blood rushed back all over his body, and he woke up suddenly with fright, realizing that he was still dreaming.
He called out to Bai Bai, but Bai Bai did not respond. Instead, Fan Zhiyi discovered a dark shadow standing in front of him.
He didn't know what he said to the black shadow. Anyway, the black shadow started to grab his hand and take him away. They ran through the courtyard very fast. It seemed that many things were chasing them, especially the female ghost who was holding a kitchen knife and was very agile. Fan Zhiyi was almost hit by her kitchen knife several times.
Darkness encroached upon the path they ran along.
Fan Zhiyi only remembered that they ran together for a long time, and suddenly, he realized that he could not run anymore. Fan Zhiyi blinked, looked at the hand holding his, and then looked at the other person. He could not see his face clearly, and he was also part of the darkness.
Fan Zhiyi frowned. At this moment, all the things chasing him disappeared, only the hand holding him did not disappear. It was very cold, and the chill passed through the place of contact, making him shiver.
There was a cliff ahead. If Fan Zhiyi took another step forward, he would fall off the cliff again.
He began to struggle, but couldn't get rid of it. He seemed to see the other person smile, and seemed to hear him say "You can't escape."
Fan Zhiyi suddenly realized that he was still dreaming. This was the third level of the dream and he couldn't go any deeper. He wanted to wake up, so he resolutely jumped off the cliff.
This time, he returned to his old orphanage. It was empty, devoid of people, and surrounded by cobwebs and dust. In the darkness, the electric lights hanging from the white ceiling flickered. Fan Zhiyi walked down the corridor, listening to the various sounds echoing from the walls.
"Zhiyi, the family that adopted you had some changes at home, so they decided not to come."
"Brother Zhiyi, we prefer playing with other older brothers!"
"Fan Zhiyi, he's really silly and funny. If you talk to him a few times and show some concern for him, he'll think you're friends and will do anything you ask him to do. Hey, do you know, there was one time he..."
"Oh, Zhiyi, you're already so old. You've already failed at adoption several times. But let's be honest, we should give more chances to younger children. What do you think, Zhiyi?"
"Fan Zhiyi? Who is Fan Zhiyi? Oh, that lonely guy who likes to talk to himself and seems to be a bit weird? No wonder I heard that he was about to be adopted several times but he refused."
…
…
Fan Zhiyi covered his ears, memories of his orphanage life flooding back like a tide, leaving a sore nose. Countless pale hands reached out from the wall, tugging at him, trying to grab him. Fan Zhiyi dodged, closing his eyes and running recklessly.
Suddenly, all the sounds disappeared, leaving only the crisp sound of the ball hitting the ball.
"Bang, bang, bang—"
"Bang, bang, bang—"
The sounds were getting closer, and the lights above my head exploded one after another, and the surroundings fell into an eerie silence and darkness.
The ball rolled and hit Fan Zhiyi's toes, then bounced back and slowly disappeared into the darkness as if it was being controlled.
Fan Zhiyi felt frightened, irritated, and exhausted. He didn't want to move forward. He saw nothing but endless darkness ahead and behind. So he squatted in the corner, buried his head, and hugged himself tightly, unwilling to see anything anymore, willing to become an insignificant stone.
Fan Zhiyi was trembling and his spirit was on the verge of collapse.
Just then, he heard a dog barking and rushing towards him, growling fiercely.
Fan Zhiyi felt familiar and looked up, and then he was pounced on by a large golden retriever, which excitedly licked his cheek and flirted with him.
All the fear vanished in an instant, and the lights came back on. Fan Zhiyi was stunned for a moment, then sat up in disbelief and looked at the dog in front of him, its tail wagging happily and rapidly.
He rubbed it with his trembling hands. It was touchable and soft. Fan Zhiyi's eyes quickly turned red and he choked out his words, "Pumpkin."
"Woof woof!"
"Pumpkin" is the name of the golden retriever raised by Fan Zhiyi. Fan Zhiyi hasn't seen it for a long time. He really misses it and has been apologizing to it. If it weren't for his failure as a responsible owner, Pumpkin would not have left him.
His only forever loyal friend and family member, he missed it so much when it was not around.
Fan Zhiyi hugged the furry creature in his arms, weeping with joy. The surprise of reunion made him forget everything. Then Fan Zhiyi noticed another dirty little dog. It barked at the surroundings, dispelling the darkness. Although small, it was full of momentum. The contrast made it particularly adorable.
Fan Zhiyi had an inexplicable feeling for this little dog, but he had no memory of ever seeing it before.
The puppy seemed to notice that Fan Zhiyi was looking at him. It stared at Fan Zhiyi with its round eyes like black pearls and barked at him a few times, with deep dissatisfaction and grievance.
