Chapter 316 The Secret Cannot Be Revealed

The rain outside stopped at some point. Fan Zhiyi got up, tied his hair up simply, and put on his coat. Suddenly, he was stunned. He had clearly closed the window tightly before going to bed last night, but now the window was slightly open. This would be impossible unless someone deliberately opened it from the inside.

"Host, the male protagonist came last night and stared at you by the bed all night long." The system gave a friendly reminder.

Fan Zhiyi imagined the scene: "What kind of expression would he have?"

The sound of an electronic loading screen echoed through his mind, and then Fan Zhiyi saw a scene: Bing Nandong sat beside his bed, expressionless, a faint black aura shrouding him, staring straight down at him. He himself must have slept poorly, his brow furrowed.

A bit scary.

Fan Zhiyi thought: "Baibai, why didn't you wake me up?"

"The host has been cursed by the male protagonist, and the system is powerless."

Fan Zhiyi: "..." What's wrong with Bing Nandong? "How is Bing Nandong's physical condition now? Has the ghost energy in his body reached a balance?"

Bai Bai showed Fan Zhiyi some data, but Fan Zhiyi didn't quite understand it. Bai Bai then said, "This is very bad. The ghost energy is eroding his will. Host, you should find a way to return to the hero immediately. Otherwise, when the hero is completely devoured by the ghost energy, there will be no way to save the situation and the mission will be declared a failure."

"I understand, but look at Gao Xiao and the others' attitude, and the restraints on me. Can I escape just because I want to?" Fan Zhiyi rubbed his swollen and aching temple. "What is going on?"

Since you've been watching him all night, why don't you just take him away?

Fan Zhiyi opened the window completely and saw a small banner erected in the corner not far away. A monk-looking man was setting up a stall. Fan Zhiyi was curious about what he was doing and watched him for a while longer. He saw the monk sitting on a small chair, looking up and smiling, then meeting his gaze.

Fan Zhiyi pointed at himself, and the young monk nodded, looking kind.

Since he woke up early and there was nothing to do, Fan Zhiyi simply packed up and went downstairs.

The inn's kitchen opened early, and when Fan Zhiyi came downstairs, he saw the waiter diligently wiping the table. The inn's door hadn't even opened yet, and when the waiter heard the noise, he immediately greeted Fan Zhiyi enthusiastically, "Good morning, cultivator. Would you like to try our steamed buns?"

Fan Zhiyi was infected by the waiter's cheerful mood and happily ordered two and paid with spirit stones.

Now that Fan Zhiyi has been staying with Zhuang Yujing and the others for a few days, Zhuang Yujing's supervision is not as strict, and Fan Zhiyi can walk around nearby.

The waiter opened the door for him. Fan Zhiyi went out and saw that the monk was still there, so he walked over and finally saw clearly that the words "Free Clinic" were written on the banner. In the short time it took him to go downstairs to buy buns, there were already customers in front of the stall.

Now the whole town is still asleep, the ground is wet, and the darkness on the edge of the clouds has not faded yet.

Fan Zhiyi had nothing to do anyway, so he stopped by the stall and took a look.

Not long after, the previous guest finished and thanked the monk profusely. The monk smiled compassionately and then looked at Fan Zhiyi: "Donor, your eyes are dark and you look listless. Are you often disturbed at night?"

Fan Zhiyi thought that the anti-righteousness consultation was free, and there were no extra patients waiting, so he sat on the stool: "Indeed."

"Donor's symptoms cannot be cured by medicine alone." The monk sighed with a gentle smile, then turned the small flag over, which had the words "Drive away ghosts and evil spirits" written on it.

Fan Zhiyi: "..." Is this job opportunity so broad? Why does he look like a charlatan?

"I'm not a liar," the monk said. "Life is tough these days, and it's hard to get enough to eat. I also need to make a living."

"That makes sense. How did you calculate the price?"

The monk stared at the bun in Fan Zhiyi's hand and said, "I was in a hurry to go out today and haven't had breakfast yet."

Fan Zhiyi generously gave out a bun. The bun had a thin skin and thick meat filling. The monk took it and immediately started eating it in small bites. Fan Zhiyi didn't urge him. It was obvious that the monk was really hungry.

The two of them ate their buns facing each other. Fan Zhiyi finished his in a few bites, and the monk also finished his meal. He slowly wiped the corners of his mouth and wiped his hands with a handkerchief, saying, "There is an evil spirit hiding around the donor."

Fan Zhiyi thought about it and realized that it was true. There was indeed an evil ghost named "Bingnandong" beside him, so he listened attentively to what the monk continued to say.

"Donor, you shouldn't go this way." The monk pointed to the left, which happened to be the direction Fan Zhiyi and his companions had come from yesterday. An enigmatic smile hung on the monk's face. "Donor, you should go that way. He's waiting for you."

Fan Zhiyi sat up straighter instantly. According to novel tropes, a monk with hidden meanings usually knew some secrets or ulterior motives. He was just here to point out: "Who is this person, Master?"

"Don't you have the answer in your heart?" The monk withdrew his hand. "My name is Jinwu. What is your name?"

"Yi Zhifan."

"Why are you here, benefactor?"

"Uh...it's a bit complicated." The word "complex" really comes in handy. Whenever he encounters something he can't explain, he can simply use "complex" to summarize it. Fan Zhiyi finally realized the subtlety of this word. "Master, you are truly compassionate. You're here to provide free medical treatment and help people so early in the morning."

"That's not true," Jin Wu said slowly. "I came here a few days ago. This town is often haunted by ghosts. The ghostly energy weakens the people, causing a surge in strange illnesses that are difficult to treat." Jin Wu shook his head. "Also, I'm here to meet some old friends. Autumn is approaching, and it's time to collect debts."
