Chapter 1: Starting with a Hospital

After climbing the mountain for two hours, the building standing on the top of the mountain finally revealed its true appearance.

This is a Republican-era building, a large "品"-shaped structure connected by a long corridor. It is four stories high, with peeling paint on the walls. Even the color of the house has a sense of wear and tear from the passage of time. The entire hospital is silent and empty.

Xie Qi hadn't seen such a dilapidated building in many years.

And this is the only legacy left to Xie Qi by his father who is worth hundreds of billions. It is said that this hospital will allow him to have no worries about food and clothing for the rest of his life.

Xie Qi even suspected that he might have to lose money to run the business, and might even go bankrupt.

After a long period of silence, the atmosphere was interrupted by a male voice on the phone, "Are you sure this is a hospital and not a haunted house?"

Xie Qi looked up at the large building, but he couldn't say it was a hospital against his will.

The Xie family in City A is a wealthy family with three generations of history. It is one of the countless debts of love left by his romantic father.

Although he was not favored, he never lacked money. The red envelopes he received from his elders during the Chinese New Year started at 100,000 yuan.

Although Xie Qi was not worried about money, he did not intend to spend it on the bottomless pit of running a hospital.

His friend Lu Xuedu had the same thought in mind, and a plan suddenly occurred to him. "Aren't those live-action script-killing escape room games very popular right now? Why not change it to that type of operation? This deep forest has natural advantages! I guarantee you'll only make money!"

"That's not a bad idea." Xie Qi thought he could learn some information in this area.

A sudden gust of wind blew by, the sky darkened, and it looked like it was going to rain.

Xie Qi gathered his hair that had been blown to pieces. Just as he had a thought in his mind, a downpour came down on his head without any warning.

By the time Xie Qi ran into the hospital porch in the rain, the video call with his friend had been disconnected at some point, and a notification suddenly popped up on the wet screen of his phone.

[You have connected to the mobile hotspot "Dr. Yan, Room 403, Inpatient Department"]

"It's not an abandoned hospital?" Xie Qi walked into the hospital with some surprise, but was stopped outside the gate.

The indicator light on the access control panel is on, proving that the hospital's power system is still working properly. There is a notice posted on it: During this special period, please register your information at the unmanned information desk, wear a mask, and swipe your door card to enter.

This is undoubtedly good news. Maybe this hospital looks a bit shabby, but it is actually very profitable.

Xie Qi looked around and found that the hospital looked a little old, but it was very clean. Although the pharmacy opposite was not open, he could see through the glass that the shelves inside were full of things. There was a floor plan of the hospital above the reception desk, with each department clearly marked. He walked to the unmanned reception desk and saw masks, disinfectant, and an open registration book on it.

His satisfied expression completely disappeared when he saw the register.

The registration book opened to the first page. At midnight, a man named "Klein Bell" came to register for obstetrics and gynecology, and then the registration was blank.

Xie Qi checked the time on his phone. It was 5:20 in the afternoon, which meant he hadn't seen a single patient in 15 hours.

"It seems I really need to consider changing careers. I wonder how the escape room market is doing."

As a kind boss, Dr. Yan could continue to employ him if he wanted. After all, employees cannot avoid regular physical examinations no matter what industry they switch to.

After Xie Qi finished registering his personal information, he scanned the desktop but didn't see the access card. Just as he put on his mask and was about to leave, he heard a "click" and a card-sized cover on the desktop popped open, revealing a black card.

High technology? Or human control?

Xie Qi picked up the access card inside and watched the lid of the table close immediately, and the gaps around it disappeared completely.

He raised his eyebrows and walked into the hospital thoughtfully.

Xie Qi was in the outpatient building, with the family building and the inpatient department to the left and right of it, all connected by long corridors. He had originally planned to take the elevator to the fourth floor, but it had stopped running, so he had to take the stairs.

I went all the way to the fourth floor and didn't see anyone, neither doctors, nurses, nor patients.

The entire building was so silent that it seemed deserted, with only Xie Qi's footsteps echoing in the building.

Xie Qi successfully found Room 403.

He did not push the door open immediately, but looked at the doorplate silently. The dim light from his cell phone reflected the three words "Autopsy Room", and even the air around him became silent.

Raindrops slammed against the windows, and the silence filled the atmosphere with horror.

"Snap!" All the lights in the corridor suddenly came on.

"The hospital opens after dark. Patients, please wait at the information desk on the first floor." The man's voice was a little deep and sounded a little cold.

The sudden bright light made it difficult for Xie Qi to open his eyes. He could only sense a figure getting closer and closer. He complained, "Whose hospital is open at night instead of during the day? Who would go to the hospital in the middle of the night if it wasn't an emergency?"

"Human?" The man seemed to smile. "So you are the new boss."

"Hello, my name is Yan Xizhao, and I'm the doctor here."

Xie Qi did not go into Room 403 in the end, but went into Room 402 next door. It was said that this was Dr. Yan's exclusive lounge, where he usually stayed after get off work instead of going home.

Sofas, desks, computers, human skeletons and specimens, as well as rows of medical books and materials were piled on the bookshelves, occasionally interspersed with a few strange books, such as "Color Illustrations of Alien Anatomy", "Special Patients: The Mechanical Race", "Zerg Observation Diary", and "Pheromone Pathology (ABO)"...

Wait, are these really not novels? My occasional novel-reading nerd DNA is stirring.

"No wonder you're so childish." He heard clearly what the human said before.

"What?" Yan Xizhao boiled a pot of hot water and opened the window. The rain outside had stopped at some point, and the humid air rushed in, seemingly not hearing his murmurs.

He turned around and asked with a gentle smile, "Coffee? Milk tea?"

Xie Qi quickly retracted his gaze, "Tea is fine, thank you."

After a while, Yan Xizhao had brewed the tea. Although his method was ordinary, it had a rich tea aroma. Xie Qi didn't know how to taste tea, but he could tell that this was not an ordinary tea.

"I'm sorry I scared you just now. The hospital is quite quiet during rest time, but it becomes lively once work starts." Yan Xizhao's voice was a little cold, but his appearance was rather gentle. He always had a smile on his face, and it was very comfortable to get along with him.

Xie Qi became even more nervous.

Yan Xizhao opened his mouth to say something, but suddenly a dog barking broke the silence of the hospital. He said with some regret, "It's getting dark, time to get to work."

Xie Qi's attention was still focused on the front. He looked out the window but saw nothing. "Where did the dog come from?"

"She is in the hospital every day, so there are plenty of opportunities to see her," said Yan Xizhao.

Has he been in the hospital the whole time? Putting aside whether or not hospitals allow dogs, how come he didn't see a single dog hair on the way in just now?

Xie Qi's expression became even more confused, but then he thought, this hospital is quite big, maybe the patient is being kept in the family building.

"Do you want to go down and take a look?" Yan Xizhao asked her after changing into his white coat. Xie Qi naturally nodded.

He subconsciously wanted to take the stairs, but saw Yan Xizhao press the elevator button, and the elevator door that was supposed to be "out of service" opened.

Xie Qi thought of the four flights of stairs he had climbed and stared at them resentfully for a moment.

The elevator reached the third floor, and up came… a cat. It seemed quite intelligent, and thought Xie Qi looked unfamiliar, so it even glanced at him as he entered.

The cat is a pure black cat, and its breed is hard to tell. Its fur is shiny and it looks well-groomed. It holds its head high and its tail is held high.

Xie Qi saw its testicles.

"Is this also raised in the hospital? How old is it? Why isn't it sterilized?" Xie Qi asked three questions.

He didn't know if it was his illusion, but he felt that the black cat's sitting posture stiffened for a moment, and the whole cat was filled with fear.

Yan Xizhao laughed out loud.

"Huh?" Xie Qi looked at him strangely.

"His name is Sheng Zhi."

"Imperial Edict?" This name is interesting.

When the elevator reached the first floor, a great noise overwhelmed us. The cat ball exploded into a ball and disappeared into the crowd like lightning.

Xie Qi no longer had the energy to pay attention to the cat. He walked out of the elevator with a look of shock on his face.

The hospital, which was as silent as a haunted house before, now has a lot of people coming, and there is even a queue at the information desk.

This bustle is even more frightening than the previous desolation.

"Doctor Yan, you have two patients scheduled for today in Room 105." A passing nurse rushed into the elevator. Suddenly, she remembered something and pressed the elevator button, asking, "By the way, have you seen Doctor Sheng? He has an emergency patient who overdosed on catnip and is emotionally unstable. He was given a sedative and sent to the inpatient department."

The nurse paused, her eyes darting around Xie Qi, her nose twitching as if she had smelled something enticing, her eyes sparkling, "Patient? Or guest?"

"Boss." Yan Xizhao introduced briefly.

The head nurse immediately released the button. The moment the elevator door closed, something white and furry seemed to be stirring above her head.

Xie Qi didn't notice this, he was looking in the direction of the information desk.

"There are many things worth exploring at the information desk. If you are interested, you can use your access card to unlock the permissions." Yan Xizhao smiled and hurried away.

Because of this sentence, Xie Qi stared at the reception desk for a long time, but couldn't find a place to swipe the card. He hesitated for a moment and put the card in the place where he had taken it before. Unexpectedly, it worked.

[Identity authentication successful, the guidance desk authority is opened]

An electronic sound fell, and a small door that could be entered and exited popped out from the right side of the reception desk that was originally tightly closed. After Xie Qi went in, he found that there was actually a computer hidden in this small reception desk.

Xie Qi turned on the computer with some curiosity.

[Unmanned mode is canceled. Do you want to activate artificial intelligence mode? ]

Xie Qi chose yes without hesitation.

At this moment, a huge shadow loomed over him. He raised his head and the first thing he saw was the man's tiger-striped animal skin skirt that was exposed, and then the bulging muscles on his chocolate skin.

Xie Qi was 180cm tall, but this shirtless man was a full head taller than him. He was very sturdy and had a voice as deep as thunder. He opened his mouth and said, "Hello, which department should I go to for my child's vaccination?"

[Child Health Department, I can register directly here. How many children do you have in total?]

The man took off a hide and cloth bag from his back. When he spread it out, five palm-sized puppies rolled out. He pointed and said, "Five."

Xie Qi took a breath of cold air: Dog, son of a bitch?
