Chapter 58 Don't Shout

Chu Changning always thought that Yan Beimo would send her back to Chaoge to recuperate.

But to everyone's surprise, Yan Beimo took her with him and rushed towards the capital.

She lay in the carriage, listlessly eating pastries.

The crazy man is probably afraid she'll run away or secretly drink the abortion soup, hence his vigilance towards her.

On this trip back to the capital, Yan Beimo did not bring many people with him on the surface, only a few guards with him.

They had left Libei and headed south into Yanzhou.

Chu Changning lay on the magnificent carriage, lifting the curtain to look at the scenery outside.

The official roads in Yanzhou are sparsely populated, but the cold winds here are not as biting as those in the north.

She couldn't help but think of Taozhi, who hadn't been heard from in a long time, and a slight worry crept into her heart.

The letter she sent had vanished without a trace, and she couldn't possibly ask Yan Beimo to help her search for it. If she returned, it would be difficult to leave with Taozhi.

A fine, cool breeze drifted in through the half-open car window.

Chu Changning couldn't take it anymore, so he looked away and nestled inside the car.

She rubbed against the plush blanket, her gaze dimming.

Suddenly, the car door was pushed open, and a person burst in, exuding a chill.

Chu Changning straightened up and looked at him.

When will we arrive in Kyoto?

"What? You can't wait to see the enemy who wiped out your clan?"

Yan Beimo closed the car door behind him, sat down next to her, and pulled her into his arms.

Chu Changning was utterly fed up with his sharp tongue and ignored him.

He rode his horse all the way, feeling cold.

She wanted to sit on the rug, away from him, and look disgusted.

Yan Beimo was not about to do as she wished, and he hugged her even tighter.

Her clothes were loosened, revealing glimpses of her smooth skin.

He bent down and kissed him.

A strange, tingling sensation seeped into her bones, and she couldn't help but let out a soft groan.

"Don't shout."

Then don't kiss me.

Chu Changning felt contempt and shut his mouth.

She remembered her plan, cleared her throat, hugged him, and spoke.

"How long are you going to be back in Beijing?"

Yan Beimo paused, looked down at her, and said, "Speak your mind."

'---'

"I was just asking casually."

Yan Beimo raised an eyebrow and said bluntly, "I won't be able to stay for more than a few days."

Chu Changning pressed further, "So, are you going back to Chaoge or somewhere else?"

He looked at him suspiciously.

She immediately replied, "I'm pregnant, and I can't take the long journey."

"I need to go to Beiyou."

As expected, they went to Beiyou.

Now that the Western Regions have launched a southward offensive and the Northern You is in chaos, Yan Beimo's ambitions are obvious. How could he let go of such a coveted prize as the Northern You? A battle between him and Helian Ye is inevitable.

Chu Changning had a better understanding of the situation and didn't dare to ask any more questions, so he kept his mouth shut and remained silent.

This banquet was held to invite envoys from various countries and kings from all over the country. Only Yan Beimo from the north arrived late, and after several invitations, he had just arrived in Yanzhou.

Inside the Imperial Study, Shen Yan was furious.

But this world belongs to the powerful families. Born in a chaotic era with frequent changes of imperial power, he had just ascended the throne and could not shake the foundation of the powerful families.

But he knew in his heart that in this era of war, Yan Beimo, as a scion of a noble family, had repeatedly launched southern expeditions under the guise of conquering various countries. He harbored wolfish ambitions and if he was not eliminated, he would surely become a future threat.

He climbed step by step to his current position, not to return the world to the aristocratic families, but to change the injustice of the world and break the monopoly of the aristocratic families.

"Your Majesty, the interests of powerful families are deeply intertwined. If the Marquis of Yan dies in the capital, I fear—"

The retainer behind him spoke up to remind him.

Shen Yan suppressed his hostility and asked in a deep voice, "What insightful opinion do you have?"

"The world is in turmoil. The thirty-six kingdoms of the Western Regions are at war with each other, and the countries surrounding the Great Jin are also constantly at war. All the emperors want to expand their territories."

"The Marquis of Yan is ambitious and has repeatedly launched southern campaigns. On the battlefield, swords have no eyes, and no one knows when they will die. I urge Your Majesty to act with caution."

“Your Majesty, Bai Xun is absolutely right. All the states want to unify the world and are fighting each other. Why don’t Your Majesty use the Marquis of Yan as a weapon to fight for you?”

After saying that, Shen Yan smiled.

"You think he's a good guy."

Given Yan Beimo's temperament, it's possible that once he conquers the surrounding small states, he might plot a rebellion and usurp the throne.

He was originally supported by a powerful family. If it weren't for the family's ancestral rule of not interfering in politics, who knows who would have sat on the throne.

"Moreover, how can the land be stabilized when there is internal strife and unrest?"

Shen Yan sighed, leaned back on the dragon throne, and rubbed his aching forehead.

Seeing this, the others dared not say anything and remained silent.

It's getting cold in Kyoto.

Shen Yan glanced out the window, then suddenly remembered something. His eyes darkened, and he immediately stood up and strode outside.

Phoenix Palace.

Chu Chang Le was dressed only in a thin white dress, sitting barefoot under the crabapple tree swinging on a swing. She looked up at the blue sky and clouds with her thin, pale face, her wet eyes lost in thought.

The palace maids and nannies behind him watched in fear, but they couldn't persuade him.

It's so cold, doesn't this little princess feel bad about suffering from the cold?

When Shen Yan entered through the archway, he saw her slender body swaying in the wind, as if a gust of wind could blow her away.

His expression darkened slightly, and he walked over.

The servants nearby saw the person and immediately knelt down.

"Greetings, Your Majesty."

Everyone knelt down and paid their respects.

Shen Yan didn't say anything, but walked towards Chu Chang Le and picked her up in his arms.

When Chu Changle saw it was him, her blank face began to react. She pushed him violently, and hatred surfaced in her bright almond-shaped eyes.

"Let me go."

Shen Yan ignored her and carried her thin, frail body into the palace.

Chu Chang Le stopped struggling and stared at him intently.

Do you want to see me die again?

Shen Yan's expression froze, and he unconsciously stopped in his tracks.

Chu Changle pushed him away and landed on the ground.

She didn't say a word, just stood in the wind and frost wearing that thin white dress, looking up at the sky.

Silence fell between them, and a cold wind swept through the courtyard, bringing a chill.

The guards and maids around them quietly withdrew.

The world was a vast expanse of white.

Shen Yan stood behind her, watching her.

"How long are you going to stop hurting yourself?"

She ignored him and simply gazed at the sky.

The cold wind blew against her slender body, outlining her thin frame.

Shen Yan grabbed her hand, forcing her to look directly at him, his anger palpable.

"Chu Changle, let me tell you, even if you freeze to death here, you won't be able to see anyone."

"Death?" Chu Chang Le laughed. "Yes, why didn't you kill me back then? Why did you make me live such a painful life?"

Her voice was mournful, her eyes were bloodless, and her beautiful eyes were moist.

"You killed my father and brothers, forced my elder sister to abdicate, and destroyed my Southern Dynasty. Why don't you kill me too?"

She violently shook off his hand, her words sounding like they were tearing his flesh apart.

"Do you know that every second I look at you now reminds me of my foolish past, of how I let the wolf into the house and ruined my father's life? I wish I could devour your flesh and blood."

Shen Yan laughed, "Then kill me! Is torturing yourself all you've got?"

The two men's loud argument reached the outer corridor, startling everyone who knelt on the ground in fear.

Chu Changle was heartbroken by his words and trembled with anger.

Do you think I wouldn't dare?
