Chapter 28 The Two-Faced Madman

After leaving Chunfeng Pavilion, Chu Changning was not in a hurry to return to his residence.

She went to the city gate, looked at the majestic city walls and the heavily armored soldiers, and breathed a sigh of relief.

The market buildings on both sides were bustling with activity.

Chu Changning strolled around for a while, then went to a teahouse to listen to storytelling. Later that night, he went to a fortune-telling shop to join in the fun. After he had his fill of fun, he went to a restaurant for dinner.

The food in Yandu is mainly light and delicate, with delicacies that leave a lingering fragrance on the lips and teeth.

She had been longing to eat here ever since Yan Beimo brought her here last time.

Her favorite dish here is fish maw in white sauce, and the Kongfu One-Pot Dish.

I heard these are all famous dishes from Yandu, not available elsewhere. Once she leaves, we won't be able to eat them anymore.

The main courtyard of the Marquis's residence.

Yan Beimo returned around 3 PM, but after waiting all afternoon, he still hadn't seen the woman come back.

The door was wide open, and under the dark moonlight, the garden was completely silent except for the rustling of insects.

He sat in the main seat, his dark eyes calmly gazing at the scenery of the garden outside.

The maids guarding the door all lowered their heads, not daring to make a sound.

The surroundings were eerily quiet.

The moon hung low in the sky, and the sound of the night watchman's drum drifted down.

After Chu Changning finished eating and drinking, she returned and breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that the main courtyard was quiet.

It's past midnight; everyone should be asleep.

She walked briskly through the archway toward the side room.

But then, a maidservant suddenly stopped her.

"Madam, you're finally back! Lord Junhou is still waiting for you inside."

ah.

Chu Changning was slightly taken aback. He looked up at the sky. Why was he waiting for her so late?

She licked her lips, remembering how she had left without saying goodbye earlier that day.

"Madam, please go quickly."

Chu Changning didn't linger and went back to the main house after walking around the corridor.

As soon as I stepped down the stone steps, I saw that the maids at the door were all bowing their heads, respectful and meticulous.

She peeked into the dark room and vaguely saw his shadow; his long, narrow eyes looked at her with a calm that seemed to hold the coming storm.

She felt vaguely uneasy and hurriedly went inside, lifting her skirt.

"My husband."

There were no lights on inside, but by the moonlight, one could discern the expression on his face.

It was faint, with no warmth.

Chu Changning walked over with a smile.

"Why aren't you asleep yet? I suddenly had a stomachache today, so I didn't have time to say goodbye. I went to the clinic, took some medicine, and then got hungry, so I went to a restaurant for dinner. That's why I'm back late."

He didn't speak, just stared at her calmly.

Chu Changning felt a chill run down his spine from his gaze.

While pondering--

He suddenly reached out, grabbed her, and pressed her down under his white robe.

She fell unexpectedly at his feet.

Suddenly, the back of his neck was grabbed, and he leaned down and closed in.

She was forced to tilt her snow-white neck back and look him in the eye.

The two were so close that her pupils could only reflect his image.

The wind blew, and all was silent.

"You've gotten bolder?"

Chu Changning's eyes trembled slightly as she explained, "I just didn't want to disturb your enjoyment."

Her eyes were red at the corners, and the tears at the corners of her eyes blurred the rouge she had applied. Her rosy lips opened and closed captivatingly.

As Yan Beimo watched, a crazy idea suddenly popped into his head.

Shut her up, make her only able to make broken swallowing sounds.

He closed his eyes, suppressing the ferocious beast within him.

Chu Changning was unaware of the filth in his heart, and being bound by him, she could only look up at his face.

Lanling Yan Er, hailed as the most outstanding person in Yandu, was indeed born with extraordinary talent.

Dressed in a snow-white robe, with eyebrows as black as lacquer and a face as fair as jade, the red mole under her eye made her face even more alluring.

She was suddenly relieved that this young master from a prestigious family was quite to her liking; if he were too ugly, she wouldn't be able to sleep even if she were poisoned to death by the drug.

Just as her mind was wandering, she was suddenly pulled hard.

The maid outside wisely closed the door, and the entire room became dark and silent.

The hazy moonlight illuminated the white walls of the room, floating and sinking.

Chu Changning slumped to the ground, his body too weak to lift.

That feeling was etched into her mind, as if it wanted to drill into the very marrow of her bones.

Yan Beimo's eyes were churning with dark emotions, his breathing was rapid, and his long, dark hair was wet and clung to his cheeks, but his scarlet eyes were fixed on her lips.

She didn't notice his expression; he felt utterly weak.

It's uncomfortable to suck on.

She couldn't help but back away, but he firmly gripped the back of her neck.

The discrepancy between appearance and reality is a facade.

Madman, damn madman.

The moonlight outside was bleak, the trees in the garden swayed, and two magpies nestled in the bamboo grove, chirping away.

Under the dim night sky, an extremely luxurious carriage entered the Xie family's residence and stopped at the entrance of a secluded courtyard.

The slight noise startled the maid on night duty in the courtyard, who hurriedly came forward to greet them.

Xie Rongyue gathered her clothes and was about to get off the carriage when she was pulled back by the person behind her.

She fell into his lap without warning.

"You just left like that?"

Wang Hezhan looked at her with his eyes lowered, and the oppressive feeling emanating from him was suffocating.

Xie Rongyue smiled ingratiatingly, hooked her arms around his neck, and pressed her soft, sweet lips against his, giving him a light peck.

He remained unfazed, playfully enjoying her attempts to please him.

The temperature inside the carriage rose, and an ambiguous and alluring atmosphere filled the air.

Xie Rongyue said gently, "Although this place is secluded, it's still not a good look if someone sees us. You should leave quickly, sir."

Wang Hezhan raised an eyebrow, holding her with one arm and lifting the car curtain with the other to glance outside.

He frowned and glanced at her a few times. Although she was a concubine's daughter, noble families valued their reputation highly. How could they allow their daughters to live in such a place?

Xie Rongyue was perceptive and noticed his disdain.

Actually, the house she lived in was already quite comfortable, with everything she needed, flat and spacious, and full of spring colors.

But this young master from a prominent family in Yandu was extravagant by nature, and even the maids serving him were more refined than her.

She sighed inwardly, but said outwardly.

“I am not the illegitimate daughter of the main family, but the daughter of a collateral branch of the Xie family. My parents died early. My mother was on good terms with the concubines in the main family’s mansion, so they took me into the Xie family’s main residence to raise me.”

Her aunt treated her well, but that was just how the world was; a girl's fate was either to be sent to a political marriage or to become a concubine in the bed of a wealthy old man.

Wang Hezhan scoffed, "The Xie family of Chenjun can't tolerate a woman?"

"---"

Xie Rongyue didn't want to explain to him anymore.

In the eyes of these young masters from noble families, her place was indeed simple and shabby, perhaps not even as well-fed and clothed as the maids in their courtyards.

"It's late, sir, you should go home now."

Wang Hezhan grew impatient with her repeated urging, and his face turned cold.

“I stepped in and settled that matter for you, now I’m discarding it like trash.”

Xie Rongyue's heart tightened, and she dared not say anything more.

He persisted, whispering in her ear, his voice like that of a demon.

"A plaything should not overstep its bounds."
