With a bang, the palace door was kicked open, and he walked straight out.
The palace maids inside the hall were so frightened that they dared not breathe and all lowered their heads.
A cold wind, carrying the fragrance of plum blossoms, whistled past, and a chill slowly seeped in.
Chu Changning pursed her lips, glanced back at the barely touched food, and sat down to eat, lifting her skirt.
The palace maids, "---"
They glanced left at the Emperor, who had stormed off in anger, and right at the Lady, who seemed completely oblivious to her meal, and both fell silent.
The procession was all ready, and Shuangyue came to call her.
Chu Changning hesitated for a moment, then followed.
How far is Jiankang from here?
Shuangyue replied, "If we travel at full speed, it will only take five days."
Actually, traveling by water would be faster; I don't know why Your Majesty insists on taking a carriage.
Chu Changning calculated the time and frowned slightly.
A cavalry procession stood at the entrance of the imperial palace, creating a grand and imposing scene.
Shuangyue walked directly to the magnificent carriage inlaid with gold and jewels and spoke respectfully.
"Your Majesty, the Lady has arrived."
A man's indifferent voice came from inside the carriage.
"Go to the back."
Chu Changning didn't want to sit with him either, so she went to the carriage at the back.
The carriage was small and very simple inside.
She glanced around casually, then entered the carriage and took a seat.
Shuangyue sat to the side, not daring to speak.
Chu Changning sat in the hard carriage. At first, she could bear it, but after two days in a row, her back started to ache.
She rubbed her lower back uncomfortably.
Shuangyue glanced at her, about to speak, when suddenly the carriage stepped on a sharp object and began to tilt and sway.
Caught off guard, Chu Changning was jolted against the side of the carriage by the force of the impact, and hissed in pain.
"Madam!" Shuangyue exclaimed in surprise and rushed over to help her. "Are you alright?"
Chu Changning reached up and touched his forehead. "Is there a bump?"
"Ouch, it's all swollen and red from the bump," Shuangyue said, then angrily shouted outside, "What happened?"
The driver outside quickly explained, "A wild fox ran out of the mountains and accidentally bumped into a tree branch while trying to avoid it."
Chu Changning applied a handkerchief to the affected area and shook her head, "It's nothing."
Shuangyue hurriedly said, "This servant will go get the medicine."
"No, no need to trouble yourself---"
Before she could finish speaking, Shuangyue hurriedly got out of the car. When she returned, she opened the car door and said to her.
"Madam, His Majesty requests that you proceed to the carriage at the front."
Chu Changning, "---"
"No need, it's nothing serious, let's go."
Shuangyue looked at the horse caravan that had stopped in front of her with a troubled expression, and whispered to her.
"Your Majesty has some Ice Lotus Infusion. It's refreshing and works very quickly. Look, your forehead is almost bleeding. There's not even ice or water here. You're suffering."
"Besides, if you don't go over there, I won't be able to explain myself."
Chu Changning's eyes darkened slightly as he glanced at her indifferently.
"It's strange that wild foxes from the mountains can run onto the official road and snakes can appear in the imperial palace during the rain."
Frosty Moon, "---"
"Alright, I'm fine, let's go."
Shuangyue stood below, hesitant and unmoving.
Chu Changning glanced at her, then noticed that the cavalry in front of him wasn't moving either. He took a deep breath and spoke softly.
"Has he had another episode?"
"---"
After a long while, Chu Changning got off the carriage, leaning against the side of the carriage wall.
The night hawk riding ahead breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her coming, and quickly ordered someone to put down a small stool and help her up.
Inside the carriage, Yan Beimo, dressed in a white robe, leaned casually against a small couch, his narrow eyes slightly closed, the atmosphere around him frighteningly somber.
He heard the door being pushed open and opened his eyes.
The two locked eyes.
Chu Changning looked away and sat down on the soft blanket.
Yan Beimo noticed the red and swollen wound on her forehead and narrowed his eyes slightly.
"Chu Changning, how could you crash into yourself like this while riding in a carriage? Are you stupid?"
"There's a rabid dog."
Chu Changning retorted coldly, and casually poured himself a cup of tea.
She was so thirsty, so we deliberately made things difficult for her; none of the carriages behind us had water.
Yan Beimo scoffed coldly at her retort.
He took out a porcelain bottle, walked over, pulled her up, and held her on his lap.
Chu Changning stiffened and instinctively pushed him.
"Don't move, apply the medicine."
He wrapped his arms around her waist and held her tightly.
Chu Changning looked at him coldly, "There's no need for Your Majesty to trouble yourself."
Yan Beimo scoffed, "There are no bronze mirrors here for you to use."
After saying that, he restrained her body and began to apply medicine to her.
The cool, medicinal scent wafted across his forehead, and the slight numbness gradually subsided. Chu Changning lowered his eyes, feeling much more comfortable.
The two were very close, and a faint white light shone through the windowpane, enveloping the surroundings.
Yan Beimo looked down at her and saw her moist red lips slightly parted, and he couldn't help but swallow.
Last night, the craving for bones surged up suddenly, and the beast in my heart seemed about to break free of its cage.
He restrained himself and did not move.
Chu Changning noticed his gaze and looked up.
The two looked at each other, and the atmosphere around them became ambiguous and romantic.
She looked away, wanting to get out of his arms.
Suddenly, he grabbed her waist, lifted her up, and leaned down to kiss her.
Their breaths mingled for a moment.
The longer that throbbing feeling is suppressed, the deeper the backlash will be.
He held her tightly, one hand running through her hair, cupping the back of her head, and kissed her passionately.
She was stunned, her eyes widening in disbelief.
A cool tongue probed in, entwining and caressing her. She snapped back to reality and desperately pushed him away.
But this action brought their bodies even closer together, and she slumped into his arms.
Chu Changning's eyes reddened with anger, and broken curses spilled from her mouth.
Yan Beimo didn't care at all. He had been indifferent for too long, and it was never enough for him. He could never do enough.
He kissed her lips somewhat haphazardly, licking and biting them.
Chu Changning had just been intimate with someone last night, and the marks on her body hadn't faded yet. He had been biting and nibbling on her, adding even more blush to her skin.
She was afraid that people outside would hear, so she lowered her voice and cursed at him.
"Didn't you say you weren't indiscriminate in your choices? What are you doing now?"
Yan Beimo buried his face inside her bodice, nibbling at it. Hearing this, he looked up.
Their breaths mingled as they faced each other naked, their bodies pressed tightly together.
She straddled his lap, her clothes disheveled and loosely piled at her waist, her lotus-colored bodice barely concealing her fair skin. Though her eyes sparkled with spring-like light, they could not hide her anger.
Yan Beimo paused, straightened up, leaned back on the small couch behind him, and looked at her without saying a word.
Chu Changning suppressed her displeasure, gathered her loose dress, and stepped off him.
A silence fell over the carriage.
Yan Beimo was born into a prestigious family. Even though he was not favored, he was still a young master from a wealthy family who grew up in luxury. No matter how much he pretended on the surface, he was very arrogant at heart. He was humiliated and lost face by a woman time and time again.
His expression softened, he closed his eyes, and remained silent.
Chu Changning naturally didn't talk to him. She put on her clothes and sat quietly on a soft blanket not far away, lost in thought.
