Chapter 111 We can't let him get distracted, and we can't cause him any more trouble.

A week later, Jiang Qingying and Lu Jinyuan received the photo album.

As they were about to go to sleep that night, they sat on the edge of the bed and looked at the photos together, quite satisfied with the sets they had taken. Lu Jinyuan selected from dozens of photos and arranged them into a nine-grid layout to post on his WeChat Moments.

Jiang Qingying looked at him in surprise.

Lu Jinyuan chuckled: "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Are you going to post this on your WeChat Moments?" Jiang Qingying swallowed hard.

Lu Jinyuan: "Can't I send it?"

"..." Jiang Qingying continued to stare at him without even blinking, "It's not that it's impossible, it's just not your style."

However, someone's Moments has been empty for a year or two, let alone posting such sweet content. If she remembers correctly, the last post was the one with the caption "The wind blows and the moon comes".

Suddenly curious, she took out her phone, opened his WeChat Moments, and found the relevant post. "When you posted this, the implication was so obvious. Weren't you afraid I'd guess what you were thinking?"

Lu Jinyuan glanced at it, then looked back at his phone, his thoughts lingering on the editing page of his WeChat Moments. He replied casually, "I was just afraid you wouldn't see it."

Jiang Qingying remained silent for a moment.

"I almost never look at my WeChat Moments, and I have no hobby of specifically looking through other people's WeChat Moments."

"Hmm." After editing the post, Lu Jinyuan clicked send and focused all his attention on the topic. "I guessed you wouldn't see it when I posted it back then, after all, you've been intentionally avoiding me for the past year or two."

“I wasn’t avoiding you,” Jiang Qingying corrected him.

Lu Jinyuan smiled and didn't dwell on the issue with her.

He asked, "So when did you see it?"

“When you proposed the marriage to me,” she replied, pinching a small gap in the air with her index finger and thumb, “that’s when I started to have a little bit of curiosity about you.”

“Just a little bit,” she emphasized again.

Lu Jinyuan nodded in agreement and made the same gesture as her, "Yes, I know, just a little bit, no more."

"..." Jiang Qingying's eyes darted around, she raised her arm and rested it on his shoulder, looking at him with interest as she said, "Back then, I thought your circle of friends was meant to lure me into your circle."

"You mean I deliberately said that to make you think I like you, so you'd accept my proposal? That was part of my plan, right?"

Isn't that so?

"Can't it be what I truly feel?"

Jiang Qingying paused, "Now that you say so, I'll believe you, but back then I really didn't believe it."

Lu Jinyuan looked slightly dejected and conceded, "Alright."

"What kind of copy did you write?" Jiang Qingying quickly changed the subject, glancing at his recent post on WeChat Moments. The copy was very simple, just a small red heart.

"You thought about it for so long and all you got was a single red heart?"

"There's nothing I can do." Lu Jinyuan shrugged and said lightly, "I rarely post these anyway, and I think it's better to keep a low profile when it comes to showing affection."

Keep a low profile?

Keep it low-key, why are you posting a nine-grid layout?

Jiang Qingying looked at him with disdain and muttered, "Versailles."

Lu Jinyuan: "Aren't you going to send it?"

"Post what?" Jiang Qingying asked blankly, only realizing what he meant after she finished speaking. "I never post on WeChat Moments."

Jiang Qingying is actually not a person with much desire to share or a habit of keeping records; her WeChat Moments has always been empty.

Lu Jinyuan stared at her without saying a word.

Jiang Qingying rolled her eyes at him, too lazy to pay him any attention, shifted her position, and lay down to sleep.

Lu Jinyuan couldn't really force her to speak, so he turned off the wall lamp and held her as they fell asleep.

-

At one o'clock in the morning, my phone rang in the quiet night.

Lu Jinyuan was still groggy when he was woken up. He could still hear Jiang Qingying's soft, slow breathing. He turned on the dim nightlight and answered the phone.

"Hello—" His voice was hoarse, his Adam's apple bobbed, and after clearing his throat, he said, "What is it? Why are you calling so late?"

On the other end of the phone was Uncle Qi. After a few seconds of silence, he hesitated and considered his words, "The old lady has suddenly fallen ill and is currently being treated at the hospital."

Lu Jinyuan's hand holding the phone trembled slightly. For a moment, he forgot to breathe, and his mind went blank. A short sentence echoed in his mind, but he still didn't know how to react.

"gentlemen?"

"...I'm coming over now."

Lu Jinyuan hung up the phone mechanically, his eyes staring blankly at the empty space in front of him. He didn't move, didn't think about anything, and just sat there for a long time.

It wasn't until Jiang Qingying tugged at his clothes that he slowly came back to his senses.

"What's wrong?" Jiang Qingying squinted, trying to adjust to the light. "Who called you so late?"

“Uncle Qi.” Lu Jinyuan grasped her hand, his palms quickly becoming damp with sweat. “Grandma is in the hospital undergoing emergency treatment. I’m going there.”

"What?" Jiang Qingying snapped back to reality, propping herself up to sit up. "Is it serious?"

Lu Jinyuan lowered his eyes and did not answer.

It must be serious, otherwise Uncle Qi wouldn't have called in the middle of the night.

"I'll go with you." Jiang Qingying said, and then tried to get up from under the covers.

Lu Jinyuan stopped her, "No, it's too late now, and you're not feeling well."

Jiang Qingying frowned, looking at him quietly, her eyes filled with worry. Lu Jinyuan gently stroked her cheek with his fingertips, trying his best to reassure her: "I'm fine."

Jiang Qingying opened her mouth again and again, but ultimately couldn't say anything.

Lu Jinyuan: "You can continue sleeping. Come back tomorrow, okay?"

Jiang Qingying pursed her lips and nodded, "Then go ahead, be careful on the road."

"Okay." Lu Jinyuan released her hand and prepared to get up, but she grabbed him. He turned to look at her: "What's wrong?"

"Don't drive yourself, have the driver take you." Jiang Qingying couldn't explain why she was pulling him along. The dim light from the night lamp illuminated his face, which was still deathly pale. After a moment of silence, she said something to reassure him, "Don't worry about me, I'll take good care of myself."

Lu Jinyuan leaned over and kissed her, then lowered his head and kissed her belly. "I'm leaving."

To reassure him, Jiang Qingying lay down again, as if preparing to go back to sleep.

Lu Jinyuan lingered for a moment, then turned off the nightlight, changed his clothes, and drove to the hospital in the quiet, foggy night.

After he left, Jiang Qingying couldn't sleep at all. She closed her eyes and listened to the subtle sounds of everything moving in the deep night, the most obvious of which was her fast and chaotic heartbeat.

She couldn't take it anymore, so she got up, drank a glass of warm water, sat on the edge of the bed, and checked her phone for messages.

Unsurprisingly, no. After all, no one would easily disturb a pregnant woman who is seven months along in the morning.

Frustrated and disoriented, an hour passed, but she still forced herself to rest.

At times like these, we must not distract him, and we must not cause him any trouble.
