Chapter 122 A bittersweet experience of surviving a catastrophe

It was very late, and after glancing at the sleeping Jiang Qingying, the waiting relatives and friends all left the hospital.

Lu Jinyuan was the only one left in the ward. He sat in front of the bed, staring at the sleeping person without blinking. For some reason, he had a feeling of unease.

He guessed that he was worrying too much.

A rumbling sound came from outside; the rain started suddenly in the early morning.

Lu Jinyuan walked to the window. Outside, the wind howled, lightning flashed and thunder roared, and large raindrops were blown sideways by the storm, pelting the windowpane one by one.

After looking at the horrific scene for two seconds, fearing that the lightning might affect Jiang Qingying, he drew back the curtains to block out the outside.

Return to your original position and continue to sit like a sculpture.

Lu Jinyuan was actually very tired, but he couldn't bring himself to close his eyes and rest peacefully, so he stared at the sleeping person.

He had been expressionless, but suddenly, he vaguely sensed that something was wrong.

Jiang Qingying's face was a little paler than before, but it wasn't obvious; you had to look very closely to notice.

Lu Jinyuan stood up and approached her. Just as he was about to call her name, a strong smell of blood suddenly filled his nostrils. He had a bad feeling and tremblingly pulled back the covers.

What came into view was a patch of deep red on the pristine white bed sheet.

Lu Jinyuan felt a chill seep from his head to his feet and pressed the call button in front of the bed as quickly as possible.

"Qingying...Qingying...Wake up...Qingying...Don't scare me."

I tried desperately, even hysterically, to wake her up, but it was no use.

The medical team arrived quickly, and Lu Jinyuan hurriedly got up to make way.

"Postpartum hemorrhage, the situation is bad, get her to the emergency room immediately, it's urgent."

The hospital's emergency exit was teeming with people. A group of medical staff in white coats were pushing hospital beds at breakneck speed, racing against time and snatching people from the jaws of death.

The second before the emergency room door closed.

Lu Jinyuan grabbed one of the doctors' white coats with tremendous force, his knuckles turning white and protruding, and blue veins trembling.

"doctor!"

The doctor, who was being held back, looked at the person controlling him. The moment he met the person's bloodshot eyes, he couldn't help but feel panicked. His throat went dry, and he seemed to lose his voice.

The next second, he heard the man, who was trying his best to suppress his emotions, plead.

"Save her, please."

He quickly realized what was happening and said, "I will do my best."

Lu Jinyuan released his hand, his voice weak and hoarse, "Please."

When Jiang Xu, who was busy filming, received the news that Jiang Qingying had given birth, he rushed over from another city. As expected, he was the last to arrive.

So he was the only one who saw Lu Jinyuan looking lost and disoriented, like a puppet.

If asked how to describe the scene he saw, he could only use the word "grayish-white".

The elevator entrance faced a long corridor, at the end of which was an operating room with a sign that read "In Progress". Even though a man was sitting on a cold chair next to him, he could not feel any signs of life.

Jiang Xu dragged her heavy legs over step by step, sat down next to Lu Jinyuan, and comforted him with her meager words.

"It will be alright."

Lu Jinyuan, with his head down, did not respond, as if he could not hear or had blocked out all external signals.

The only thing that could wake him was the open operating room door. He quickly got up, praying that he wouldn't hear any bad news.

The surgical staff handed him a folder. He couldn't hear a word; the thin A4 paper was covered with densely packed words. He didn't care to read it; he could only make out the most prominent words—"Critical Illness Notice."

He signed his name and realized for the first time that his name had so many strokes. The crooked characters on the signature line were not his usual handwriting at all.

He watched as the door closed again, his back hunched. After standing there for a while, he mechanically returned to his original spot, sitting with his back bent, arms resting on his knees, and his hands covering his pale face.

Jiang Xu looked at his messy back of the head and sensed his helplessness and desire to escape from his posture.

Two men sat in different positions. One waited anxiously and prayed incessantly; the other was deathly pale and completely lost.

After what seemed like an eternity, the surgery finally ended, and the medical team emerged in unison.

Jiang Xu stood up to greet him, while Lu Jinyuan remained in the same position.

The attending physician, who was familiar with his condition from seeing it in the hospital, walked up to Lu Jinyuan and stopped. The man with his head down slowly raised his head.

"The patient is out of danger."

Lu Jinyuan was stunned for a long time, his throat so dry he couldn't make a sound. He nodded slowly, then stood up, supporting his numb limbs, and bowed to all the medical staff.

Jiang Xu felt as if she had just woken from a nightmare, her whole body covered in cold sweat. She belatedly realized, "Thank you all, you've worked hard."

Doctor: "It's our duty. The patient will be wheeled back to the ward soon, and we will monitor him closely."

"Okay, thank you." It was Jiang Xu who spoke again.

The torrential rain that had been pouring down all night finally stopped, the wind calmed down, the sky turned slightly cool, the sun peeked out shyly, and the temperature gradually warmed up.

Lu Jinyuan stayed by Jiang Qingying's bedside, holding her hand to make sure it was warm, and occasionally checking the data on the instruments next to her to see if it was normal.

His heart was pounding wildly and he couldn't calm down. He endured it for a long time, his jaw clenched tightly, and his dark eyelashes slowly became wet.

He finally couldn't hold back any longer. He moved slowly and carefully, his footsteps barely making a sound, towards the bathroom, and closed the door. He stood in front of a mirror, looked at himself in the reflection, and instantly broke down in tears. He covered his face with his hands, tears streaming down his face, heavy sobs, and bitter weeping echoed in the small bathroom.

It wasn't all sadness; it was a bittersweet feeling of surviving a catastrophe.

During the time he spent outside the operating room, Lu Jinyuan didn't know how much time had passed. At that time, he couldn't feel the outside world, his tinnitus was very severe, and his mind was completely blank.

At times, he even thought he was dead.

Fortunately, Jiang Qingying survived, and so did he.
