Chapter 19 did not imply any unwillingness.
Jiang Qingying carried the takeout coffee back to her office to continue working. The unprocessed documents on her desk were piling up like a mountain. She checked the time; if she worked quickly, she could probably leave on time. The temptation of not having to work overtime was too great, causing her work efficiency to skyrocket. She practically flew through the last half hour before leaving work.
She's ambitious and a workaholic, but Lu Jinyuan is even more so. Because of a massive project with Lu's Group, and Lu Jinyuan's team working like crazy, each member acting like a boss, she's been working overtime non-stop for half a month!
For this reason, she cursed Lu Jinyuan many times, both secretly and openly.
Sure enough, after I had just cursed him in my mind for a while, someone must have sneezed several times, because a WeChat message came knocking on my door.
Wolfgang: "Could you spare some time to come over?"
Jiang Qingying frowned, feeling extremely annoyed by him at the moment, and replied to him without thinking.
Not lending money: "I'm busy."
Lu Jinyuan replied instantly.
Wolfgang: "Should I come find you?"
"What's up?" (Refusing to lend money)
Wolfgang: "When you sign the prenuptial agreement, remember to bring your lawyer along."
Not lending money: "When?"
Wolfgang: Around 6 o'clock.
Jiang Qingxiang looked as if she had seen something dirty, moved her phone away slightly, and clicked her tongue loudly.
He refused to lend him money, saying, "No, I'm off work. Come back tomorrow."
Wolfgang: "I'm going abroad for an inspection tomorrow morning, and I estimate that the wedding will be held soon when I get back."
Wolfgang: "Besides, we haven't had time to get our marriage certificate yet. There are too many things to do later, so we can only do it today."
Jiang Qingying was truly impressed by him; she practically poked her phone screen to pieces while replying to Lu Jinyuan's messages.
He refused to lend money: "Lu Jinyuan! You owe me overtime pay!"
Wolfgang: "Okay."
Jiang Qingying called Zhou Yu over, "Contact a lawyer and have him come over. He might be working a little late today."
Zhou Yu was puzzled. Didn't they agree not to work overtime? He had just seen the BOSS grab his bag and prepare to sprint. Why did he suddenly change his mind? He observed the BOSS discreetly. His expression wasn't good. He didn't dare to ask too many questions. It was better to save his own life.
An hour later, Lu Jinyuan appeared in the president's office with his legal team, and his doubts were resolved.
Zhou Yu swiped his access card to Jiang Qingying's office. "President Lu, President Jiang is waiting for you in her office."
Lu Jinyuan nodded slightly to express his gratitude.
Zhou Yu went to prepare tea.
Upon entering, he saw Jiang Qingying's angry gaze and curled his lips into a smile: "President Jiang, I'm sorry to have kept you waiting."
Jiang Qingying gave a cold chuckle. "President Lu is the best at exploiting labor." She gestured to the sofa, telling him and the group of lawyers behind him to get up and sit down. "Hurry up."
Both the Lu and Jiang families are large clans with complex relationships and numerous interests involved, making the prenuptial agreement particularly cumbersome. It took two hours to complete the process.
"Shall we have dinner together?" Lu Jinyuan asked.
Consider this meal as overtime pay.
"Do I look like someone who's so stingy?"
"...They look quite similar."
Lu Jinyuan rubbed his tired temples and patiently asked, "What would you like to eat?"
Jiang Qingying licked her lips. She was so hungry that her stomach was practically sticking to her back. At this moment, she wanted to eat everything, so it would be difficult to give a real answer.
Seeing her struggling with the decision, Lu Jinyuan helped her make a decision. After thinking it over, he said, "Come to my house, I'll cook for you."
"Is the food you cooked even edible?" Jiang Qingying blurted out the question, but the next second a wicked thought flashed through her mind, and she quickly crossed her arms over her chest, "It's a dark and windy night, you wouldn't be planning to do something to me, would you?"
Lu Jinyuan stared at her expressionlessly without saying a word, creating an incredibly awkward atmosphere. After a long while, he finally spoke: "I am your fiancé, so it is reasonable for me to do something."
Jiang Qingying's expression froze. It made sense, but something just felt off.
"Let's go, it's just for lunch." Lu Jinyuan said, too lazy to pay attention to her, and left the office first.
Jiang Qingying reluctantly followed him into his car. After thinking for a while, she decided it would be better to explain to him, "Well... I didn't mean to be unwilling."
Lu Jinyuan turned his head, his dark eyes fixed on her for a long while in the dimly lit carriage, then suddenly chuckled, "I know."
The three simple words, coupled with that low, magnetic laugh that carried an inexplicable ambiguity, made Jiang Qingying feel as if he was hinting at something.
"It really was just a meal."
He explained it to her as well.
"Oh." Jiang Qingying turned her face to the car window, not wanting to talk to him.
Lu Jinyuan looked at the back of her head and shook his head silently. She was really hard to coax.
Lu Jinyuan did not live in the Lu family home, but in a modern-style detached villa in a high-end residential area under the Lu Group. The interior was mainly black and gray, with gold accents to create a light luxury atmosphere.
Jiang Qingying disliked this slightly somber sense of sophistication, but it was very much in line with Lu Jinyuan's style.
In the entryway, Lu Jinyuan took a pair of slippers from the shoe cabinet and placed them at Jiang Qingying's feet. "Sorry, we don't have any women's slippers at home. Please make do with these for now."
Jiang Qingying hummed in agreement, and while bending down to change her shoes, she asked, "Aren't there any servants in the house?"
“I only get cleaning done by the hour; I’m not used to having other people at home.” Lu Jinyuan replied.
"So you cook for yourself all the time?"
"Not many, I usually get home late at night."
Jiang Qingying frowned, quite disapproving: "It's because of capitalists like you that this world goes crazy."
Lu Jinyuan smiled and didn't say anything more. He led her to the living room and poured her a glass of warm water. "Rest for a bit. Dinner will be ready soon."
Jiang Qingying turned on the TV herself and waved to him, "Go ahead and do your work, don't worry about me."
Lu Jinyuan went to the kitchen to cook, and Jiang Qingying randomly picked a movie to watch, but after watching the beginning, she found that the lead actress was Jiang Xu, so she immediately changed it.
She never watches Jiang Xu's movies or listens to her songs; there's always an awkwardness between them, like they're old acquaintances.
Two people can't eat much; two dishes and a soup are enough. Lu Jinyuan was quick and finished cooking in half an hour. When he went to the living room to call her, he found her asleep on the sofa with her head tilted to one side.
He walked over quietly and sat down beside her, watching her sleep, unable to bring himself to wake her. His gaze traced her face, from her full forehead down to her thick, curled eyelashes, which drooped quietly, casting a soft shadow under her eyes. Her relaxed features were much softer than usual; she looked extremely tired. The television continued to play, yet she remained fast asleep. No wonder she had been so reluctant to work overtime earlier.
She can't go without eating; I still have to wake her up.
He patted her shoulder and called her softly, "Qingying." She only opened her eyes after he called her three times. "Dinner's ready. Eat first, then go back to sleep."
Jiang Qingying had just woken up. Her eyes squinted in response to the bright light, her mind a complete mess. She felt like she was still dreaming, and even thought it was a hallucination. Otherwise, why would Lu Jinyuan's voice be so gentle and doting?
Moreover, it was the first time she had heard him call her "Qingying".
Jiang Qingying looked at him and noticed that he had changed into casual clothes. The black tracksuit made his skin look porcelain white, and he didn't look as serious and ascetic as when he wore a suit. She was instantly captivated by him. Only when she heard the sound of the television did she gradually come to her senses and ask him, "Have I been sleeping for a long time?"
"More than half an hour." Lu Jinyuan grabbed her arm and pulled her up from the sofa. "Let's go eat, or the food will get cold."
Jiang Qingying, who was dragged away, became even more certain.
Absolutely! It was just an illusion!
