Chapter 52 What a beautiful scene of fatherly love and daughterly filial piety!
Jiang Qingying was taken to the living room by Lu Jinyuan, who instructed the servants to fetch the medical kit. Lu Qicheng and Su Xi came over to ask what happened, and Lu Jinyuan said calmly that he would explain himself.
After that, no one dared to come forward; they were all scared away by Lu Jinyuan's gloomy face.
Lu Jinyuan held her scraped hand to prevent her from moving, and asked her, "Are you sure you didn't hurt yourself in the fall?"
Jiang Qingying shook her head, her voice slightly hoarse: "No, I'm wearing thick clothes."
The maid brought over the first-aid kit, which Lu Jinyuan took and found the disinfectant. "It will hurt a little, just bear with it."
"Hmm." Jiang Qingying didn't pay much attention. The scratches on her palms weren't actually that serious. She had suffered much more serious injuries when she was a naughty child.
Lu Jinyuan carefully cleaned her wound and applied good medicine. Although the wound was not serious, after thinking it over, he decided to simply wrap it with gauze twice.
"Isn't this too much trouble?" Jiang Qingying cautiously protested.
Lu Jinyuan lifted his eyelids and gave her a nonchalant look.
Jiang Qingying pursed her lips and didn't refute him anymore. She just stared at him. He had his head down, and she could only see the short hair hanging down in front of his forehead. The light shone on his smooth black hair, and his eyes were half-obscured. Even with only half of his eyes visible, she could still sense the coldness in them. After a long while, she hesitated and said, "Something's not right with you."
Lu Jinyuan raised his head and gazed deeply into her dark, watery eyes. She didn't say anything explicitly, but he could only guess from her expression. He roughly understood the answer in his heart, then suddenly laughed and sighed seriously, "What's wrong with me feeling sorry for my wife?"
"..." Jiang Qingying lowered her head, trying her best to hide her increasingly hot cheeks, and whispered to remind him, "You may need to explain things to Grandpa and Grandma."
"Yes, I know what I'm doing." After bandaging her up, Lu Jinyuan gently stroked her face with his hand. "I'll go say a few words to them, and then we'll go home."
Jiang Qingying nodded in agreement.
Before leaving, Lu Jinyuan asked the servant to pour her a glass of warm water before entering Lu Qicheng's study.
"Is Qingying alright?"
Before Lu Jinyuan could close the door, Su Xi's worried voice rang out. He calmly comforted her, "It's nothing, just a scraped hand. It'll be fine in a few days."
"That's good." Su Xi's worried expression eased slightly, and then she asked, "What happened to Wan Jun? Why was she punished by being sent to the ancestral home for three years to reflect on her actions?"
If it were just a dispute with Jiang Qingying, it wouldn't have lasted a year, let alone three years.
Lu Qicheng understood that there must be other reasons, so he didn't rush to speak.
Lu Jinyuan glanced at Su Xi, then looked at Lu Qicheng, and then slowly recounted how Li Wanjun framed Zeng Le. There was no need to embellish it; the evidence was sufficient to warrant the punishment.
Lu Jinyuan said disdainfully, "I think a three-year penalty is a bit too lenient."
Su Xi looked deeply remorseful, feeling sorry for the poor unborn child. Lu Qicheng remained silent for a long time before speaking in a deep voice: "Let's handle this matter like this. Don't mention it again in the family."
"Okay," Lu Jinyuan replied expressionlessly.
Lu Jinyuan chatted with Lu Qicheng in the study for half an hour. When he came down to the living room to find Jiang Qingying, he found her asleep on the sofa with her head tilted to the side.
Despite all the commotion at home, she, the person directly involved, was the most calm and at ease.
He went over, covered her with a blanket, and then picked her up, blanket and all, and carried her outside.
Jiang Qingying wasn't fully asleep. She felt Lu Jinyuan approaching, but she was too sleepy to open her eyes. She nestled her face in his arms, enjoying the bliss of not having to walk.
Lu Jinyuan carried her to the back seat of the car, then got in on the other side. Knowing she wasn't asleep, he remarked, "How can you sleep so much?"
Jiang Qingying heard this and found him annoying, muttering, "Does Hibernation have a problem with that?"
Lu Jinyuan's lips curled slightly. He didn't intend to bother her, otherwise he would probably get scolded if he said another word.
On the way home, Lu Jinyuan worked quietly, with only the sound of the woman's steady breathing coming from beside him. Afraid that her forehead was uncomfortable against the door frame, he gently moved her head over so that she could rest her head on his shoulder.
When they arrived home, Jiang Qing seemed to have sensed something. As soon as the car stopped, she opened her eyes, shuddered violently, and suddenly sat up straight, staring blankly ahead with a shocked expression, as if she had just had a dream.
"Did you have a nightmare?" Lu Jinyuan asked.
Upon hearing this, Jiang Qingying slowly came to her senses, turned to look at him, swallowed hard, and said in a slightly choked voice, "...No."
After speaking, Jiang Qingying immediately opened the car door and got out. Her movements were quick, but not strange.
Lu Jinyuan didn't take it to heart.
When it was time to take a shower, Jiang Qingying went first. He waited outside for a while, but then got impatient, so he went to the dressing room to get his clothes and went to the guest room outside to shower.
Jiang Qingying slumped on the bathtub in the bathroom, her mind filled with the dream she had in the car earlier. It wasn't a nightmare, but a dream more terrifying than any nightmare.
In her dream, a little girl kept chasing after her, calling her "Mommy" and crying, wanting her to play with her. She said she wasn't her mother, which made the little girl cry even more pitifully. At the most terrifying moment, the little girl called Lu Jinyuan "Daddy," and Lu Jinyuan responded to her calls and played happily with her.
What a beautiful scene of a loving father and a filial daughter.
Unfortunately, it was a terrible dream, and Jiang Qingying felt no warmth at all.
When she woke up from the nightmare, she realized that her period was late for a while. She then carefully recalled her condition during that time.
My appetite... seems okay, but it's definitely not as good as it used to be.
She did feel sleepy very easily, and she thought it was because of the winter.
Tired... She always seemed quite tired; it's normal to be busy at the end of the year.
Menstrual period... Menstrual period doesn't explain everything; her periods are irregular to begin with.
The last two nights... I haven't felt well afterwards, is that because of pregnancy?
She still held onto a sliver of hope, but her face was filled with worry. She sat up from the bathtub, casually rinsed off the foam, and moved like a robot, like a clay sculpture. It wasn't until she went downstairs and found Aunt Mei that she regained the ability to think.
She whispered something in Aunt Mei's ear, and Aunt Mei's face immediately lit up with surprise, but when she saw that her expression was not quite right, she quickly withdrew her joy.
Jiang Qingying asked her to bring a few pregnancy tests for herself tomorrow morning, and she instructed her, "Don't tell Lu Jinyuan yet."
Aunt Mei nodded, "Madam, don't worry too much."
Jiang Qingying forced a smile. "I hope so."
This hope refers to her not wanting to get pregnant, and hoping that everything is just her imagination and that the dream was just a coincidence.
