Chapter 58: All You Can Find in His Eyes is Desire

When Jiang Qingying went out, she habitually picked up a pair of ten-centimeter high heels. After putting them on, she realized something was wrong, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it. It was only after Aunt Mei pointed it out that she realized it was the shoes that were the problem.

She looked down silently at the brand-new, beautiful, and favorite high heels, and after a while, she reluctantly changed into a pair of flat shoes placed in the corner of the shoe cabinet.

I never expected that the first step in compromising would be high heels.

Pregnancy often presents women with many compromises, such as regarding clothing, daily activities, and work. However, compromise doesn't mean giving up; there are always suitable alternatives to be found.

So, Jiang Qingying, who always treated herself the best, ordered someone to buy a lot of high-end brand flat shoes on her way to work, and told the person in charge to put them all into Lu Jinyuan's account.

Upon arriving at the company, Jiang Qingying first invited the vice president to her office and also asked Zhou Yu to stay behind.

The vice president is Jiang Shiyang, Jiang Qingying's senior from university. She is beautiful and capable.

Jiang Shiyang: "What do you want?"

The two have a very close relationship and don't need any flattery.

Jiang Qingying gestured for her to sit down, "You'll be in charge of that project in Australia next year, and I'll also trouble you to go on business trips. We'll keep in touch online."

Jiang Shiyang was taken aback. "I have other projects planned for next year, have you forgotten?"

“I haven’t forgotten.” Jiang Qingying paused slightly. “If you can’t handle it, let me take over your original project. Zhou Yu can also help me out here, making things easier.”

Jiang Shiyang's project is slightly less difficult and does not require frequent business trips.

Jiang Shiyang listened to every word, but still didn't understand why they had to do it. Perhaps her question was too obvious, so Jiang Qingying had to explain.

"I am pregnant."

Jiang Qingying's eyes flickered, her tone filled with helplessness and a hint of apology.

These words startled the two people present. For a moment, Jiang Shiyang and Zhou Yu fell silent as if they were trembling with fear, and the huge office was eerily quiet.

Jiang Qingying broke the silence first with a smile: "What are you two doing?"

Jiang Shiyang and Zhou Yu exchanged a glance, and after realizing what was happening, Jiang Shiyang said, "No, it's just a bit sudden."

“That’s true.” Jiang Qingying leaned back in her leather chair, resting her head on the cushion, and sighed, “It took me a whole day to accept this fact.”

Jiang Shiyang didn't dare to speak.

Zhou Yu lowered his eyes and thought quickly. No wonder President Jiang didn't come to work yesterday. Qi Xin also gossiped with him, saying that President Lu also worked from home yesterday.

No wonder...

It turns out there's good news.

"Anyway, it's a done deal." Jiang Qingying remembered something, straightened up, and asked Jiang Shiyang, "You don't have any plans to get pregnant, do you?"

Jiang Shiyang shook her head and laughed, "I already have one, and one is already enough of a hassle. I don't want another one."

Jiang Qingying agreed, "No matter what, you shouldn't get pregnant for now, at least not until after I give birth."

Jiang Shiyang chuckled: "Okay."

Jiang Qingying felt much relieved when she saw that she had agreed. "I'll give you a raise later."

Jiang Shiyang: "Thank you, boss."

For working people, what could be more exciting than a pay raise?

Zhou Yu stared at Jiang Qingying expectantly, like a puppy waiting to be fed. Jiang Qingying gave him a sidelong glance and said, "You add it too."

Zhou Yu grinned, almost jumping for joy: "Thank you, boss."

Jiang Qingying instructed, "Also, don't tell anyone that I'm pregnant."

Jiang Shiyang & Zhou Yu: "Okay."

At noon, Lu Jinyuan arrived uninvited, carrying a tall stack of insulated lunch boxes.

Jiang Qingying was still looking at the documents when she saw how familiar he was with his work. She couldn't help but narrow her eyes and say, "President Lu, you have so much free time."

Lu Jinyuan lowered his eyes and arranged the boxed meals, all of which were highly nutritious delicacies. He remained unfazed by her teasing and said, "I still have to squeeze in time to eat with my wife and children."

"You weren't this clingy before I got pregnant," Jiang Qingying muttered to herself.

Lu Jinyuan didn't hear clearly, so he looked up and asked her what she was saying.

Jiang Qingying pouted, clearly not intending to tell him.

Lu Jinyuan said, "Come over when you're done with your work."

"Okay." Jiang Qingying glanced at the remaining progress and gave a precise answer: "Five minutes."

Five minutes later, Jiang Qingying kept her word, walked to the dining table and glanced at it. All the dishes were her favorites, which she had told Aunt Mei about beforehand.

"I need to eat more." Jiang Qingying straightened her chopsticks with her slender white fingers, picked up a piece of steamed crucian carp, and said approvingly, "It's really good."

Seeing that she liked to eat fish, Lu Jinyuan picked up his chopsticks and removed all the fish bones for her. "How are you feeling today? Are you feeling unwell?"

"No." Jiang Qingying shook her head. "Anyway, there are only a few days left before the holiday. After the New Year, the first three months will be over."

Lu Jinyuan didn't have as good an appetite as her. He ate a few bites and then finished. Seeing that she was still eating, he sat down next to her and kept her company. Then he remembered something and said, "You mentioned the trip this morning. Have you made any arrangements? If not, I'll make them."

Jiang Qingying bit the end of her chopsticks and blinked her bright, dark eyes at him.

Lu Jinyuan chuckled, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing much." Jiang Qingying thought for a few seconds. "I'm a little surprised you'd care about this."

He didn't answer, and inexplicably fell into an awkward silence.

Lu Jinyuan reached out and pinched her rounded earlobe. She wasn't wearing any earrings today. His fingertips caressed the small earlobe, feeling the slightly uneven texture. He played with it casually, his gaze moving from her earlobe to her eyes.

When they met eyes, her gaze remained largely unchanged, while his grew increasingly profound, eventually becoming like a bottomless abyss.

The surface appears as still as stagnant water, but in reality, deep within it lies a pool of magma poised to erupt.

"I'm very curious, what kind of husband am I in your heart?"

Jiang Qingying remained silent.

He continued, "Isn't it only right to do things for your wife and to consider her needs?"

Jiang Qingying was stunned, never expecting that a simple sentence could turn into this.

Should we?

Yes, that's exactly what a husband should do.

Since their marriage, he has always played the role of a qualified husband, solving problems for her, considering everything for her, patiently listening to her vent her bad emotions, and then comforting her. Moreover, his ability to comfort people has become more and more mature.

In their married life, aside from daily work and personal space, he almost always revolved around her.

In comparison, she seemed somewhat unqualified, and also appeared picky and unreasonable.

Jiang Qingying actually knew the reason.

When the relationship began, she knew clearly that she liked Lu Jinyuan, which is why she agreed to the marriage alliance. Later, she didn't know when, but she fell in love with him.

Perhaps in every sexual encounter, perhaps in every moment he tries to please her as a husband, or perhaps in every glance she gives him.

As for Lu Jinyuan, she couldn't understand him.

She tried to understand him, and even considered finding a trace of love in his indifferent eyes.

But she couldn't find it; perhaps he hid it too well, or perhaps it simply didn't exist.

Even during the most intimate moments, when they become one and reach the ultimate climax, all you can see in his eyes is desire.

So she didn't dare to get too involved, and kept telling herself that it was okay, whether he loved her or not was none of her business, as long as she loved him.

Because of this mindset, she viewed everything he did through a thin, misty filter, blurring her own feelings and disbelieving that it was his love, preferring instead to believe it was his sense of responsibility.

But now, she seems to be feeling a different emotion than before, an emotion she has never experienced before.

He seemed very down, but he was afraid it would affect him, so he tried his best to hide it, like a puppy that always wants to hide away and lick its wounds alone.

"I'm sorry." She rarely apologized from the bottom of her heart.

Lu Jinyuan's eyes were gentle, and he shook his head slightly to indicate that he was alright.

Jiang Qingying did not answer, and Lu Jinyuan naturally would not force her.

The topic was left unresolved.

The question she had been pondering for a long time remained unasked.
