Chapter 228 One Slash

Endless darkness enveloped this unknown place.

A faint light seemed to flash in the distance, but then silence returned.

This place feels like the deepest part of the starry sky, or the end of a spacetime vortex.

Until a ray of light shone from afar, gradually approaching, the entire landscape was briefly revealed.

Under the cover of darkness, there was a massive mountain whose length and width were unknown.

The mountain peaks are covered with all sorts of intricate and mysterious patterns and texts. Although their meaning is incomprehensible, they exude a sense of ancient desolation and profound weight.

Zooming in further, one is astonished to discover that a figure is sitting cross-legged at the summit of the mountain.

This is a young man with a youthful appearance but a profound sense of vicissitude.

He was dressed in simple clothes, sitting cross-legged with his eyes closed.

Around him, various eye-like symbols flickered faintly; upon closer inspection, they seemed to encompass everything, as if containing the ultimate truths of the universe.

As the ray of light shone closer, the youth's aura vanished, and he slowly opened his eyes.

When he stood up, countless specks of dust fell from his body, revealing that he had been sitting there for an unknown amount of time.

"Has the time come already? Five years really flies. No wonder the sages said, 'Cultivation knows no time'..."

The young man was somewhat moved.

When the light finally reached them, it revealed a figure wearing a long white trench coat.

The light, which resembled a spotlight, actually came from a small candlestick he was holding.

"Wen Yuan, it's been a long time."

Upon seeing the newcomer, the young man nodded slightly and greeted him, "So it's your turn this time?"

"The Book of Changes (Zhou Yi)"

Gao Wenyuan nodded and smiled, "I got a bye last time, so it's my turn this time."

"Wen Yuan, when will you spar with me?" King Zhou Yi asked with a smile.

“Zhou Yi Wang is a great master; how could I possibly be his match? I would rather not humiliate myself,” Gao Wenyuan said calmly.

“You’re always like this…” Zhou Yiwang shook his head with some regret, “I’ve been sitting here for the past five years and have gained some insights. I’m really itching to get my hands dirty.”

“As long as we go back, why would King Zhou Yi have to worry about not finding an opponent?” Gao Wenyuan laughed. “He won’t miss me.”

"Fine."

Seeing that Gao Wenyuan was indeed not interested, King Zhouyi said no more. He frowned and glanced at the mountains below, then instructed, "Things have been rather unsettled in recent years. You need to be extra careful while you are stationed here."

I'll keep an eye on it.

"Then you'll have to work hard. Although it's a bit monotonous here, it's truly a treasure trove. If you concentrate and learn over five years, you'll surely gain something."

King Zhou Yi smiled and said, without further delay, his figure slowly becoming blurry, "Then I shall go."

After the aura of King Zhou Yi completely dissipated into the darkness, Gao Wenyuan stood quietly for a while before turning around to face the mountain.

He casually tossed the candlestick in his hand, and the light flowed down, illuminating the three large characters, each a hundred meters long and wide, on the mountain range.

"Long live the mountain!"

As Gao Wenyuan stepped onto the mountain peak, the mysterious symbols on the mountain range seemed to respond and slowly flowed towards him.

The profound runes on this mountain range were mostly left behind by ancient powerful beings, containing their insights into the "Tao" and many hidden supernatural abilities. Unfortunately...

Gao Wenyuan was never interested.

"If you want to walk your own path, why use someone else's lamp?"

Gao Wenyuan murmured, then waved his sleeve, blocking all the approaching runes three feet away.

After thinking for a moment, Gao Wenyuan made a set of hand seals.

Rumble!

With a deafening roar that seemed to split the heavens and earth, the massive mountain beneath his feet slowly split open, revealing a passage leading straight into the darkness.

Gao Wenyuan strolled in.

As he ventured deeper, he began to hear all sorts of strange roars.

Even without a language barrier, one can still sense the anger and frustration in their voices.

Gao Wenyuan seemed oblivious.

He continued to venture deeper and deeper, and after an unknown amount of time, he finally reached the darkness at the very bottom of the mountain.

His eyes lit up, and he could vaguely see nine wide gates of different shapes in the deep darkness.

The materials used to make the doors were unknown, but each one gave the illusion of being indestructible. Countless defensive formations were also engraved on the doors, and a huge black lock, ten meters wide, hung in the center.

Gao Wenyuan looked around for a moment, then went to one of the doors and knocked gently.

There was no movement inside the door, and Gao Wenyuan was not in a hurry. After about ten minutes, a heavy footstep finally approached from afar.

"Gao Wenyuan, what are you doing here!"

A sound like muffled thunder came from the other side of the door.

"I've come to ask you for something," Gao Wenyuan said calmly.

"What?"

"The complete Primordial Body Refining Technique and the Primordial Spirit Refining Technique."

"What do you need this for?" the voice asked, puzzled.

“It has its uses,” Gao Wenyuan said calmly. “You ruled that era, so you should have a complete record of this technique. Give it to me.”

"What a joke!" Perhaps enraged by Gao Wenyuan's matter-of-fact tone, the voice became violent. "I wish I could eat your flesh and drink your blood, and you dare to ask me for things!"

"Every wrong has its perpetrator, and every debt has its debtor. It's not like I locked you up here," Gao Wenyuan said with a faint smile.

"You're at least an accomplice!" the voice sneered, but seemed to have calmed down considerably. "I'll give it to you if you release me."

"You know perfectly well that this is impossible."
