Chapter 381 My Lord

In the name of balance, how can we quell the calamity of time and space?

Upon hearing this, Shen Qian's previously nonchalant expression vanished instantly. He abruptly stood up, staring intently at Gao Zhe, who now seemed like a complete stranger, his gaze shifting rapidly.

This statement evoked so much speculation that it was impossible for Chen Qian not to lose his composure.

"Envoy Gao, what do you mean by that?" Although he knew that his face must be showing shock, Shen Qian still wanted to confirm it one more time.

In Gao Zhe's eyes, Shen Qian's reaction seemed to confirm some of his suspicions. He exhaled a breath of turbid air, his expression both solemn and relieved.

"As expected... In fact, when I was able to recite the ancestral precepts to you without any difficulty, I already realized that I had not mistaken you for someone else. I just never expected that I would become the one destined for this calamity."

"Could the envoy please elaborate?" Shen Qian had calmed down by now, but still maintained the necessary vigilance.

"Hold on."

Gao Zhe suddenly walked to the window, his ears twitching as if confirming something. After a few minutes, he closed the window, casually set up an isolation array, and then returned.

"The Flame King has returned to his residence and should not cause you any more trouble for the time being. You and I can talk in peace."

Faced with Shen Qian's questioning gaze, Gao Zhe gave a simple explanation.

Shen Qian nodded knowingly, but asked curiously, "How did Envoy Gao know that I had a conflict with King Yan?"

"By bringing you into the palace today, I have already shown the Yan King our connection. However, the Yan King bypassed me and came to find you alone. This must be something that is not known to others. When I arrived, the Yan King was clearly in an unstable mood. Therefore, I guess that you two must have had a disagreement, which is why I hurriedly took you away."

Gao Zhe said frankly, "If the Flame King had made any further moves just now, I would have taken you away from the Flame Clan at all costs."

Gao Zhe's words were logically clear and everything made sense, except for one point that puzzled Shen Qian.

"You would do anything to take me away from the Yan Clan?" Shen Qian frowned. "Why is that?"

After taking a deep breath, Gao Zhe suddenly knelt down on one knee and placed his hand on his chest, much to Shen Qian's astonishment.

Shen Qian had seen a similar gesture among the Yuezhi people, which in that era meant "loyalty" and "sworn to die".

"Gao Zhe, the 762nd generation descendant of the Gao family, greets Your Majesty!"

Gao Zhe's voice was deep and powerful, echoing throughout the room and even producing a metallic clang.

A brief silence fell over the room.

Shen Qian was no longer the naive boy he once was, so even though the scene before him had exceeded his expectations, he didn't rush to ask any questions. After a while, he sat down with a calm expression.

"Envoy Gao, please get up."

Upon hearing this, Gao Zhe quickly stood up. His blue robe was still spotless, though his temples were slightly gray, which added a touch of vicissitude to his handsome face.

The supreme demeanor unique to powerful beings of the mountains and seas remained with him, but now, facing Shen Qian, Gao Zhe maintained the utmost restraint.

This is a form of respect.

Everything changed after Gao Zhe shouted those words.

"Tell me, you can probably guess I have many questions." Chen Qian stroked the rough teacup on the table, and added with a faint smile, "The more detailed the better."

In reality, Shen Qian's inner state was far less calm than he appeared, but fortunately, with the events at Mangshan as a prelude, he wasn't particularly surprised.

"Eight thousand years ago, the human race was weak, and most people lived in the desolate mountains and wilderness. My Gao family ancestor appeared out of nowhere, quelled the great demon, carried out construction projects, helped countless clans, and won extremely high prestige."

"The Gao family, who protect the Dao, rose to fame at that time."

"To be honest, it predates the rise of the five major clans by countless years..."

"Wait a minute," Shen Qian asked, puzzled. "If that's the case, why doesn't the Gao family establish their own clan?"

“This is also a question that other clans have,” Gao Zhe replied. “But our Gao family ancestors established a rule from the very beginning: our Gao family will not claim the title of king, nor will we contend for hegemony. Our descendants will be scattered among various clans, and will only assist those who are virtuous.”

"Of course, this is only the stated reason, and it is also the reputation that my Gao family has accumulated over eight thousand years. Therefore, all the leaders of the human race believe that the 'Dao' that my Gao family balances is actually the Way of Kings."

Gao Zhe smiled, "However, I have already told you the truth."

After carefully considering the matter, he seemed to gain some insight.

The Gao family actually balances the principles of time and space, but this should be the Gao family's greatest secret.

If I weren't the "master" Gao Zhe mentioned, I probably wouldn't have known.

On second thought, if we take this as a starting point, then the reason why the Gao family ancestors set the rule not to participate in the struggle for supremacy becomes obvious.

Over eight thousand years, one can imagine how many times clan conflicts and successions of kings have occurred, even within the human race itself.

Before the five major races of today, there must have been several other eras.

Countless clans have risen and fallen, but the Gao family alone has survived. Even today, the descendants of the Gao family are scattered across various clans.

If there is a greater mission supporting this advanced survival wisdom, then everything makes sense.

"How can we quell the calamity of time and space?"

With basic trust established, Shen Qian stopped hiding his feelings and asked all the questions that had been bothering him, "Also, why do you call me 'Master'? What do you mean by calling yourself the one destined for this calamity? And what is the connection between my mission and that of your Gao family?"

"Actually, I only have a superficial understanding of it myself."
