Chapter 41 Wounds

A knock on the door temporarily interrupted Chen Qian's thoughts.

The food delivery is here?

Shen Qian's eyes lit up, and he hurriedly stood up, but almost fell over due to the sudden dizziness.

He felt like something was wrong with his body; besides feeling extremely hungry, he also felt a bit weak.

Wrapped in a bath towel, I went to the porch and opened the door. Sure enough, the cutest delivery guy had brought me food.

The seven dishes and one soup were devoured in just twenty minutes.

And I'm still not full...

Shen Qian took the charging bracelet, and as soon as he turned it on, it started vibrating wildly, making a constant "ding-dong" sound.

Although somewhat expected, seeing the four-digit number of unread messages and three-digit number of missed calls displayed on the bracelet still sent chills down Shen Qian's spine.

Knock knock knock!

Just as Shen Qian was about to click to take a look, the knocking on the door rang again.

"So fast?" Shen Qian, who had just ordered takeout again, didn't think much of it and went straight to open the door.

Standing outside the door was a girl in a dark blue school uniform skirt suit, her chest heaving rapidly with her breathing. Her dark eyes were wide open, and her cheeks puffed out slightly when she saw Shen Qian's flushed face, looking very angry.

"Huo Ling'er?" Shen Qian was taken aback, and couldn't help but show an embarrassed expression when he thought of the AFK record. "How did you get here... wait, how did you know I was here?"

"I left a missing person notice at Tongxinyuan Hotel!" Huo Ling'er glanced at Shen Qian, who was only wrapped in a bath towel, and then quickly turned her gaze away. "You called me as soon as you checked in, so I rushed over from school!"

“Shen Qian, how could you do this?” After explaining for a moment, Huo Ling’er immediately questioned him.

"Uh, actually, what I said that day wasn't my intention. Well... you can understand it as me not being quite lucid at the time," Shen Qian explained dryly.

"That's not what I meant. I wasn't really angry about what you said the other day, it's just that I felt you were very disrespectful to me..."

Huo Ling'er said softly, then raised her voice, "What I mean is, how could you run away from home just because I rejected you?"

"Do you know the whole school is looking for you? The police have come to question me twice already, as have your parents and that pretty senior. But the way she looked at me was strange, like I'd offended her somehow..."

Huo Ling'er was a little confused, but Shen Qian caught the key words... beautiful senior?

"Are you talking about Ding Yi?" Shen Qian subconsciously gripped Huo Ling'er's shoulder. "She's back?"

"You seem very nervous. What's your relationship with her?" Huo Ling'er raised her head suspiciously.

"she……"

Just as Shen Qian was about to continue asking questions, he caught a glimpse of another girl out of the corner of his eye.

She wore a black fitted coat, and her long hair, unusually loose, cascaded down her shoulders with slight curls. A few strands of hair clung messily to her forehead, adding a touch of gentleness to her cool and aloof face. Under the dim light of the corridor, she was breathtakingly beautiful.

Her initially anxious gaze slowly turned from astonishment to indifference after she saw everything in the room.

Shen Qian looked at himself, who was only wrapped in a bath towel, and then at his hand on Huo Ling'er's shoulder. He couldn't help but hold his forehead. What was going on?

Thump thump thump...

More footsteps came from the corridor, and then more and more people gathered at the door of the room.

Shen Qian saw his parents, whose expressions were a mixture of anxiety and joy; he saw Liu Simin, who looked relieved; he saw Zhou Xu and Wang Yangming, who were dumbfounded; and he saw Song Ye, a police officer with an inquisitive expression.

Huo Ling'er finally realized that something seemed amiss and took two steps back to the side.

"ah!"

At this moment, Huo Ling'er's gaze was fixed on the full-length mirror on the side of the door. She suddenly screamed and her face turned pale.

"Before sinking, you, your back..."

Her voice trembled slightly, as if she had seen something extremely terrifying.

Everyone was stunned, somewhat puzzled.

As he was pondering how to explain and comfort Ding Yi, he heard Huo Ling'er's voice and subconsciously turned to look in the mirror, whereupon he was stunned.

In the mirror, on his back, there was a huge wound about two fingers wide, extending from his left armpit to his right waist. The flesh was torn and the bone was visible, making it look extremely gruesome.

The wound was strangely not bleeding, but Shen Qian still gasped. He finally understood where the discomfort he had been experiencing since he regained consciousness came from.

The next moment, a huge wave of dizziness hit again, and this time Shen Qian couldn't hold on and passed out.

The crowd at the doorway immediately erupted into chaos.

...

A sky full of stars hangs upside down, and at the end of endless darkness stands a broken bridge.

At the end of the broken bridge, another person stood.

He stood with his back to the starry sky, dressed in white, his silhouette both infinitely tall and infinitely lonely.

Shen Qian stepped onto the broken bridge in a daze.

"You've arrived," the figure said calmly.

“I’m here,” Shen Qian replied.

"You're early."

"I wasn't the one who arrived early."

Shen Qian replied immediately, then realized the conversation had a slightly childish tone, so he quickly adjusted his thinking and asked again, "Who are you, and where am I?"

"Where you are is not important. What's important is whether you know who you are?" the figure said calmly.

"Can't you speak like a human being?" Shen Qian couldn't help but ask.

"What people say is human language."

"If you continue like this, I will insult your family."

“Boring.” The man in white shrugged and pointed ahead. “Look.”

Shen Qian followed his finger and saw that in the deepest part of the darkness, a pair of eyes suddenly opened. Those eyes carried an unimaginable terrifying pressure, as if they were staring at Shen Qian, or as if they were staring at the heavens and earth.

An indescribable, overwhelming fear washed over him. Shen Qian suddenly opened his eyes and saw another pair of eyes. He instinctively tried to back away.

"Shen Qian?" The familiar, cool voice gradually pulled Shen Qian back to reality.

Only then did he notice that the eyes belonged to a girl sitting on the edge of the bed, bright and clear, not the cold and indifferent eyes from the dream he had just had.

"You're awake." Ding Yi stood up, seemingly to call for the doctor.

As his fragmented consciousness gradually returned, he recalled what had happened before he lost consciousness. He looked around and saw that it was a single hospital room of about fifty square meters, with lush green plants and a pleasant environment.

"My back..."

Shen Qian suddenly realized something, touched his back, and sure enough, there were thick bandages wrapped around it. It seemed that the huge wound was not an illusion.

He glanced at the ward door; no one had come in yet. He then summoned the system and opened the fifth AFK (away from keyboard) log.

The answer is clearly there.
