Shen Qian was pushed and shoved out of the van. He looked around and realized that they were very close to the edge of Jingcheng. The city wall, hidden in the fog, could be seen about one or two kilometers away.
Shen Qian stared blankly at the obscured sky outside the city wall.
All the weather changes were simulated using some means. He had glimpsed the climate of the forbidden zone from the memories of the system's battle with the Iron-Eating Beast.
Chaos, disorder...
Even though there are three suns in the sky, it doesn't stop a violent storm and dark clouds from forming the next second.
In addition, there was miasma everywhere in the air. He was able to survive outside the city for a while only because he got a heart-protecting pill from Wei Sijian, which shows how harsh the living conditions of scavengers were.
All the light is in the city, so he has to establish himself there.
"What are you looking at? Hurry up!" The black-clad guard behind them impatiently shoved Chen Qian.
Before sinking, he didn't look any further, silently stepped onto the stairs, and entered the Martial Arts Bureau.
The Martial Arts Bureau is located in an old courtyard with five small buildings. Although it has been renovated, you can still occasionally find traces of its dilapidated state in the corners.
On the way, they often encountered some people in black who seemed to be very interested in the prisoner being escorted. They would always come up and ask a question or two. When they learned that this was the prisoner that Chai Mu was going to interrogate, they would walk away with regret on their faces.
Zhao Guiying only saw Shen Qian off into the car and did not follow. Chai Mu then escorted Shen Qian into the main building and took the elevator to the third basement level.
The elevator doors opened, revealing a dimly lit corridor lined with countless cages on either side.
However, upon closer inspection, most of the cages were empty. Occasionally, a figure would appear in a cage, but they would be huddled in a corner, motionless, their fate unknown.
“The last time someone came in here was three months ago, so you should understand why you were so ‘popular’ up there just now.”
Chai Mu glanced at Shen Qian and smiled meaningfully.
"Oh, so you guys have so much free time. When my silly nephew grows up, I'll definitely tell him to apply to the Martial Arts Bureau. This place is quite suitable for retirement. You should have the five social insurances and one housing fund, right?"
He asked as if he had just realized something.
Instead of startling Shen Qian, Chai Mu found himself quite speechless. His face darkened, and he sneered, "I hope your mouth will be just as sharp later."
Finding himself unable to argue with Shen Qian, Chai Mu silently led the way. Shen Qian, having lost interest in further arguing, also walked in silence. When they reached the deepest part of the cage, it was completely silent, and the air was thick with the stench of decay.
Chai Mu opened the innermost black iron door, which was the only room with walls on the entire third basement level.
Squeak!
The door seemed to jam when it was pushed open, as if it hadn't been opened in a long time.
Snap!
Chai Mu turned on the light, turned around and chuckled at Shen Qian, "Come in, let me show you a VIP meeting room that the Martial Arts Bureau doesn't usually use."
Shen Qian was pushed into the room by two men in black behind him. He squinted and waited until his eyes adjusted to the glaring light before opening them to look around.
After taking in his surroundings, Shen Qian's pupils contracted slightly, and his expression changed slightly.
Because this room, which is about thirty square meters in size, is filled with all kinds of torture instruments... This is a scene that Shen had only seen in TV dramas before.
Some of the torture instruments are extremely ancient in style, while others are full of modern technology, making for a dazzling array.
"Isn't the existence of such a place illegal?" Shen Qian said in a deep voice.
"yes."
Chai Mu noticed the change in Shen Qian's eyes, finally smiled with satisfaction, and generously admitted it.
"It was explicitly abolished eighty years ago, but there's no way around it. Martial artists are generally tough guys, and how can we make you behave without some special methods?"
As Chai Mu spoke, he waved to the two men in black who led Shen Qian to the only seemingly normal-looking tall wooden stool in the room.
"No wonder people say you should have been left behind by the times long ago."
After sitting down, Shen Qian sighed. At this moment, he understood what Song Ye meant by the "somewhat outdated mechanism" of the Martial Arts Bureau.
"Heh, what a naive view you have. What do you know?"
Chai Mu said calmly, "Without the Martial Arts Bureau, what use would those useless police officers be? It's just that the outside world doesn't know about many of the things we do."
Not intending to discuss the topic further with Shen Qian, Chai Mu closed his eyes slightly, as if waiting for something.
Time passed in silence.
Knock knock!
A short while later, there was a knock on the door, and a man in black walked in holding a document. "Captain Chai, this is the confession you requested. Please take a look and see if there are any problems."
Chai Mu took it, glanced at it, and nodded in satisfaction. "Okay."
He placed the confession in front of Shen Qian and asked, "Are you going to sign and put your fingerprint on it now, or do you want to wait half an hour?"
He seemed extremely confident that even if he didn't easily give in before sinking, he couldn't possibly hold out for more than half an hour.
Shen Qian glanced at the confession. Although he had expected it, he was still shocked by Chai Mu's shamelessness.
Duty such as desertion and resisting arrest are just the most basic offenses; there are two more serious crimes above that: assaulting law enforcement officers and endangering public safety.
In addition, there are a bunch of seemingly ordinary charges, such as damaging municipal facilities and forcibly molesting young girls, but when added together, they are enough to warrant a heavy sentence.
"I can tolerate everything else, but this forced molestation of a girl... you can't make baseless accusations," Shen Qian said angrily.
"Heh, you've been staying at the Kyushu Martial Arts Hall every night for the past week, and that waitress named Xiaoxuan has been serving you there, hasn't she? To me, it's enough that you leave your mark."
