As the tall buildings receded from the windows, and the surrounding landscape grew increasingly desolate, many students realized something was wrong.
Where are we going?
"The tram terminus is just ahead..."
"Could the trial be outside the city?"
The crowd speculated in hushed tones.
As Shen Qian watched the edge of Jingcheng draw ever closer, he couldn't help but mutter to himself, "He really was right."
The bus eventually stopped in front of a side gate in the western city wall of Jingcheng.
Many police officers were already waiting here, and Shen Qian immediately spotted an old acquaintance with a thick beard.
Song Ye also saw Shen Qian through the window and waved to him with a smile.
After everyone got off the bus, Chen Feng walked to the front of the group and said, "The final trial of the training camp will be held outside the city, at an abandoned garbage dump two kilometers away from Jingcheng. Officer Song will explain the details to everyone."
"Hello students, I'm Song Ye from the City Police Unit. Three days ago, we received a tip-off, and after careful investigation, we've confirmed that a group of scavengers are lurking in the abandoned junkyard..."
Before Song Ye could finish speaking, a commotion broke out in the crowd.
"A scavenger?"
"Are we going to deal with the scavengers?"
"But didn't the news say that scavengers are all ruthless killers...?"
"Will Teacher Liu come with us?"
Some felt confused, some were excited, but most felt fear.
"Silence!" Chen Feng gave everyone a minute to process what was happening. Once everyone had calmed down, he looked at Song Ye and said, "Officer Song, please continue."
"Students, don't worry too much. These scavengers were hunted down by the police for several days before they even escaped Jingcheng. They're not in good condition, and none of them are high-level martial artists. The strongest among them is only at the first or second stage of the beginner martial artist level, and there aren't many of them."
"We will be on guard around the perimeter. If there is any emergency, students can just shout and we will provide timely assistance."
Song Ye's words did not reassure these students who had never experienced the dangers of society. Many of them were still traumatized by their previous encounter with death row inmates.
The scavengers they are about to face are clearly more dangerous.
Shen Qian was also somewhat taken aback. Old Liu's style of training students was really quite unrestrained. No wonder he had such a big argument with Zhao Hanhai before.
"Squad Leader Chen and I will go in with everyone."
Ignoring Chen Feng's furrowed brows, Zhao Hanhai's words finally quieted everyone down.
With two martial arts experts as bodyguards, at least there's no danger to their lives.
"Of course, if any students do not wish to participate, they can say so now," Zhao Hanhai said, stepping forward to ask again.
After learning that Chen Feng and Zhao Hanhai would be going in together, everyone's mentality seemed to have subtly changed. They looked at each other, but no one responded.
Huo Ling'er opened her mouth, but after glancing at Shen Qian beside her, she ultimately chose to remain silent.
"Next, each of you will receive a Heart-Protecting Pill and a Mind-Awakening Pill. Although you've only gone to the edge of the restricted area, it's better to be on the safe side."
Zhao Hanhai took out the prepared pills and began distributing them.
“Scavengers are mostly cunning and ruthless, so you must be very careful. The results of this trial will be judged on a comprehensive basis, so there is no need to have too much psychological burden. It is not shameful to back down at the last minute.”
"If you don't have the courage to kill, you just need to incapacitate the other party, and the police will help you clean up the mess."
"I wish everyone the best of luck in passing the assessment."
After giving further instructions, Zhao Hanhai watched as everyone took the pills before stepping aside and letting Chen Feng take over the reins.
"Your mission is simple: round up the scavengers. Whether you want to team up with others is up to you; I won't interfere."
Chen Feng glanced at Zhao Hanhai and said coldly, "In addition, I want to correct Director Zhao's statement. Although we will go in, we will only take action in critical moments. Unexpected events can happen anywhere, and Director Zhao and I may not be able to handle everything."
So if you're feeling confident and fearless, you might as well stay now!
If there are no further questions, change your clothes and get ready to go!
When a police officer handed him the specially made protective suit, Shen Qian suddenly felt that this trial was nothing special. The safety measures were far too extravagant; back when he left the city, it was...
Oh, he has a system. Then it's alright.
After changing into black protective suits that covered them from head to toe and putting on transparent masks, the group of people, in twos and threes, boarded off-road motorcycles driven by police officers and filed out through the side door.
Shen Qian took the lone Huo Ling'er and got on the back of Song Ye's motorcycle. As the motorcycle started and slowly passed through the shadow of the city gate, Shen Qian couldn't help but look up, curiously watching the increasingly approaching forbidden zone.
Although Shen Qian had seen the scenery of the forbidden zone from his memory of fighting the Iron-Eating Beast, it was only a fragment of memory and naturally not as intuitive as experiencing it firsthand.
There seemed to be a thin film at the city gate, making it difficult to see anything at first, but once it was broken through, everything in front of us suddenly changed dramatically.
A violent sandstorm swept over them, accompanied by gasps of alarm from the students walking ahead.
A light shield illuminated Song Ye's motorcycle, keeping the sandstorm out, but the piercing, tearing sound was still chilling.
Shen Qian knew how terrifying these wind blades were; he had been cut quite a few times last time. The deeper they went into the forbidden zone, the greater the power of the storm became.
Shen Qian raised his head and looked up at the sky.
