Chapter 178 Lucky Arlo

At this point, Kuro, wanting to leave as quickly as possible, had already retreated to the plaza.

He only found the strange noises from Cass and his group noisy; after all, human joys and sorrows are not the same, and he couldn't quite make out what they were shouting.

In this world, yelling and shouting are perfectly normal.

It's become a habit.

Looking down from the plaza, Kuro saw the pirates rushing forward like ants. There were quite a few of them. Whitebeard's main crew consisted of sixteen divisions, each with a hundred elites, plus the pirates from the forty-three pirate crews, totaling more than twenty thousand.

It also appears to be boundless.

Besides, these pirates are actually a level stronger than ordinary marines. Although they are all elites, pirates who come out of the New World battlefield are really different from most marines who come out of the first half of the war.

It seems that luring the pirates to the designated location will require some effort.

Kuro didn't want to fight anymore. Since he had already attacked Whitebeard, going back to fight now would only draw more attention to him.

It's too dangerous; even slacking off is dangerous now.

It's best to retreat first.

On the battlefield, Coby was panting heavily. He was clearly in the rear, but images of the fallen marines and pirates suddenly flashed through his mind. They were all powerful people, but now they were lying in pools of blood.

"No, no, it's too terrible. I can't do anything. They were so strong, and they turned into that. I, I..."

Koby took a step back, the images in his mind becoming increasingly vivid and unbearable. Finally, he took a step back and ran straight away.

"Hey, Coby, wait!"

Berumeber chased after them.

One or two naval personnel retreating would go unnoticed in the chaos of the battlefield.

Unless, of course, someone is like him.

Kuro's gaze followed Koby's body backward as they entered the city behind headquarters. He shook his head, took out a cigar, and lit it.

"Running there now could easily lead to an accident."

He just saw Akainu walk in that direction.

Kuro glanced at the battlefield and exhaled a puff of smoke. "Being on the battlefield, escaping won't be so easy..."

As he spoke, he walked away.

"Kuro, where are you going? Wait for me." Lida pulled a piece of fruit out of her backpack, took a bite of it, and followed after him.

That last wave made her a little hungry, so she needed to eat something to replenish her energy.

If it weren't for Admiral Kizaru, she would have had to exert even more effort, because she was originally planning to lift up all that ice. Fortunately, she didn't have to do that.

Behind this headquarters lies the city of Marineford, but it is now unusually deserted.

The people have already evacuated.

Currently, the only ones who haven't retreated from the rear are the medical teams, but since it's wartime, the medical teams aren't being deployed, and right now, no one from the navy is going to come to the rear.

Except for... deserters.

Koby ran backward, and as he moved further away from the battlefield, the inexplicable images in his mind gradually disappeared, which made his head feel much lighter.

"Hey, Coby, what are you doing, running away from the battlefield? Then wait for me!" Helmeppo complained from behind.

"Back to the battlefield!"

Suddenly, a loud shout rang out from the side.

Koby stopped abruptly and hid behind a nearby building, exclaiming in surprise, "That's... Admiral Akainu?"

Before Akainu, a Marine carrying a gun pleaded, "Please spare me. I don't want to die. What will happen to my family if I die? My legs go weak just thinking about them. I'll definitely die if I go to the battlefield."

Akainu looked at him, took off his hat, straightened his hair, and put the hat back on.

"If you really care about your family, then don't embarrass yourself. Go back to the battlefield now, and I can pretend I didn't see it."

"No, please, let me go!"

"Yeah..."

Akainu clenched his fist, a large amount of magma enveloping it, and raised his fist, ready to strike the Marine.

"General Sakazuki."

Just then, a voice sounded behind him.

Akainu paused, looking back.

Then Kuro came over with Lida and Kro.

"Kuro, what are you doing here?"

Kuro scratched his head: "I came to see if I could take care of this place because I saw some Marines who were having some temporary troubles."

Akainu frowned and said, "Kuro, deserters have no honor. Rather than running away, let me finish him off. If he dies on the 'battlefield,' his family will not be disgraced."

“They just have some ideological problems, I’ll take care of them.”

Kuro drew Shusui and said, "It would be such a waste for a living being to die like this. If you don't listen, I'll send him on his way."

Akainu looked at him, and Kuro raised his head, staring at Akainu for a moment. Then, the magma on his fist receded.

"Then it's up to you."

As he spoke, he passed the trembling navy man and continued walking.

Kuro watched Akainu's figure disappear before saying to the Marine, "Hey, did you hear that? Go back to the battlefield."

"Please spare me, please spare me! I'll really die on the battlefield!" The navy officer suddenly knelt on the ground, pleading loudly for mercy.

Kuro put away Shusui and said, "Actually, I can understand. The battlefield is so dangerous that even an admiral could die if he went up there. But what can you do? You're a Marine."

He walked over, squatted down in front of the navy officer, and said, “Your family is proud of you for joining the war. I can spare your life, but if the news reaches your hometown, your fellow villagers, your wife, and your children, they will know you are a deserter. What will they think then?”
