Kuro initially didn't want to leave because Marineford had just ended a war and was very safe. But then he thought about it and realized that everything was in ruins and everyone was busy repairing things. It wasn't lively at all, and they couldn't even go out for a drink.
Most importantly, the old man told him that after he went to Mary Geoise, he would go and keep an eye on Kaido.
This seemed to bring back some memories for Kuro. Although Kaido was stopped by Shanks, given his personality, he might still come to headquarters to 'commit suicide' or something.
This place isn't safe either.
She had stabbed him several times; if Ling Fando recognized her, it would be too dangerous.
In just the last few days, he has already fought several battles, all of them high-intensity. He really doesn't want to fight anymore. If Kaido comes along, he'll be doomed.
Without a word, Kuro agreed to the old man's request and set off by boat with Lida and Kuro.
Before setting off, however, he went to the armory and took all the damaged weapons and firearms to the armory.
These things are going to be recycled anyway, so why not just keep them for ourselves? The government has the money; they can just make a new batch.
This time he didn't need to hide anything anymore, since his abilities were already mostly exposed. Anything he didn't need was sent to the sky to continue stockpiling.
After doing all this, he went to the port. As a lieutenant colonel, he no longer needed to lead those tiny cruisers with a crew of eighty. The warship he was now assigned to had a crew of two hundred and fifty, and could reach three hundred when fully staffed.
"Aren't they even going to allocate enough people?"
Once aboard the warship, Kuro summoned all the marines on board. Kuro looked at the roughly one hundred marines at most and smirked.
"Reporting to Lieutenant Colonel Kuro!"
A captain saluted and said, "Headquarters is severely understaffed. Some of the navy personnel are currently receiving treatment, and others have already been taken away by the vice admirals."
"Alright, alright... just make sure the supplies are full."
Kuro waved his hand, glanced at the marines, and saw that more than half of them were injured and wrapped in bandages, including this captain.
The old man gave him a group of wounded soldiers to patrol; he wanted him to do his work.
However, they are all minor injuries and can handle normal navigation and simple combat without any problems.
This medium-sized warship is different from the cruiser; it naturally has a larger area and the most luxurious offices.
"The voyage is now in your hands."
Kuro said something to the captain and then walked towards his office.
The captain saluted again, and seeing Kuro enter the central warship fortress, he breathed a sigh of relief and said to the navy, "With Lieutenant Commander Kuro here, we are safe."
"Yes, that's Lieutenant Colonel Kuro."
"A man who can fight Whitebeard. With him around, this voyage will be much less troublesome."
The sailors were talking amongst themselves.
Of course, Kuro heard these words.
He shook his head, went into the office, plopped down in a chair, and began rubbing his temples.
Headache...
“Kuro, you seem to have become quite famous,” Lida said, chewing on an apple.
"That's only natural."
Kuro adjusted his glasses and said, "Mr. Kuro has been very active and frequent in this war, which will naturally make him known to the public."
There's also live streaming.
"Shut up, you lot!" Kuro glared at them, then sighed.
He had naturally prepared himself mentally for the prospect of becoming famous ever since he learned that he couldn't escape the war.
However, it's not hopeless yet. At most, he's just a 'famous navy officer,' similar to Smoker. As time goes on, his fame might even surpass Smoker's.
Kuro has also prepared a countermeasure.
He couldn't make it in the lower ranks of the navy anymore. His reputation went from "nobody" to "somewhat famous," so he decided to stay in that "somewhat famous" position and refuse to rise to "world-renowned."
However, there are plenty of famous people, from Smoker to various lieutenant generals, they are all at this level. At worst, they can just change their environment.
If he keeps a low profile and avoids the limelight, he can remain in the same position as the generals in his unit for a few more years. If he doesn't attract attention, everything will be fine.
And that straw hat guy, he'll be going to the New World in a few years. The New World is pirate territory, it doesn't have much to do with the Navy, so he can do whatever he wants.
So next, all I have to do is find a place to work away from home and live out my life in peace.
Safe and secure.
...
The warships' voyages on the Grand Line are naturally aimless; they only need to reach the permanent navigation markers at headquarters, and for other island navigation, they have to rely on the recording markers.
The Grand Line isn't that big, but it's not that small either. It's definitely not possible to sail along a fixed route, especially at this critical juncture. We're just relying on Log Pose to stumble around, since pirates also use Log Pose.
"Lieutenant Colonel!"
They hadn't even been sailing for half a day, and had just left the triangular spiral sea area between Marineford and Enies Lobby, when the captain in charge rushed into the office and shouted, "Pirate ship spotted!"
At that moment, Kuro had his legs propped up on the desk, lying on his back, fast asleep.
Lida was still eating snacks.
Meanwhile, Chloe was looking at the recent newspapers. Just one day later, the newspapers about the major events had been printed and distributed all over the world.
This war was dubbed the 'Marineford War' by the journalists.
That actually fits quite well...
However, that's not what Kro was looking at. He was a participant in the event, so what was there to see? He wanted to glean some information from the smaller sections.
Startled by the noise, Lida and Cloth both looked towards the captain.
Kuro was startled, shook his head, and looked down at the captain, "A pirate ship?"
"Yes, pirate ship spotted ahead," the captain said solemnly.
Which pirate crew?
"It's the 'Flame Sword Pirates,' and the captain is 'Flame Sword' Chernell, with a bounty of 18 million," the captain replied.
"Then why don't you just sink it?"
Kuro sighed, "Don't let this bother me while I'm sleeping... Kuro, go and take care of this."
"clear."
Kro adjusted his glasses, stood up, and walked outside.
Just as Kuro was about to lie back and continue sleeping, he suddenly remembered something and said to Lida, "Go out and tell Kuro not to throw away the rest of the pirate ships. Wrap them in bread... no, leave the ships and the pirates' weapons for me. I'll go get them when I wake up."
"Can't you just move your own feet, Kuro?" Lida said speechlessly.
"Go quickly, otherwise what use are you subordinates to me?" Kuro waved his hand and continued to close his eyes.
"You're so lazy you could die."
Lida rolled her eyes, got up, and left the office.
Boom boom boom!
Immediately, the sound of artillery fire rang out outside.
Kuro wasn't worried at all. With Kuro's strength, dealing with some minor pirate with 18 million in assets would be a huge embarrassment if he failed.
