It was impossible to pretend it didn't exist. Kuro and Lida hadn't been out for long when the phone rang.
"Oh dear, I just answered the wrong phone. I suppose you should have arrived in Water Seven by now. Here's an address. Go there and someone will meet you."
*Smack*
Kuro died again, without saying another word to the old man.
He clicked his tongue and said, "I just don't understand, what does this have to do with you, old man?"
Hades, Water Seven, CP9, Carrera...
If Kuro remembers correctly, this kind of thing should be handled by the World Government, with Aokiji assisting from the sidelines, since he gave the Buster Call to Spandam.
But what does this have to do with Kizaru? Why did he have to get involved?
“Perhaps… the general wants to give you a chance for promotion?” Kro thought for a moment and said.
"Um?"
Kuro looked at him and inexplicably felt a sense of crisis.
Promotion opportunities?
Kuro was taken aback, then turned his head and thought about it. If this hadn't been due to the protagonist's plot armor, and if it had been handled like a normal pirate, it might have actually succeeded. In that case, even if he did nothing, he would probably have been promoted for his meritorious service in escorting the hostages.
Kuro gritted his teeth and said, "That old man has ill intentions; he hasn't given up on using me as a tool."
"Aren't we going?" Lida asked.
“Go, this is the only chance. We finally managed to get this old man’s freedom of movement, so we have to make contact with him no matter what. It’s just a matter of making contact.”
Anyway, it's bound to fail according to the plot, and he's not planning to take action, so things will definitely go as he wishes.
You want me to get a promotion?
No way!
The group headed to the address Kizaru had given them. It was a bar, and since it was daytime, there weren't many people around. A burly man with a horn-shaped hairstyle was silently wiping glasses.
Upon seeing several navy personnel arrive, the burly man remained silent for a moment before saying, slowly and deliberately, "Please wait a moment."
Bruno.
A CP9 agent, currently operating a bar in Water Seven and remaining undercover.
He is also Kuro's contact.
Kuro shrugged and found a place to sit down, just like any other tourist.
“Give us some wine, and get her some drinks,” he said, pointing at Lida.
"I'm an adult now!" Lida pouted.
"What do you mean you're an adult? Look at yourself, do you look like an adult? You eat more than anyone else and sleep longer than anyone else. Go and drink your beverage!" Kuro rolled his eyes at her.
"I want to drink! I want to drink! I want to drink!" Lida slammed her hand on the table.
“So you’re not acting like an adult at all. No way.” Kuro slapped his forehead and sighed.
"You're such a cheapskate!" Lida pouted, and seeing that Kuro really wouldn't allow it, she gave up on the idea.
"Alcohol and beverages."
Bruno appeared out of nowhere beside them, put down the items on the tray, and returned to the front desk as if he didn't recognize them.
I didn't know them at all.
As evening approached and dusk drew near, the bar began to bustle with activity.
"Bruno, give us a drink!"
Before the person even got close, Kuro heard a rough, loud voice.
Then a blond man with slicked-back hair and goggles walked in, accompanied by two other people.
One of them had a pigeon on his shoulder, was dressed in a boatman's clothes, and had an indifferent look in his eyes.
The other one has a long, square nose, which reminds Kuro of Pinocchio.
"Oh... Barry, are you buying on credit again?"
Bruno wiped the glass and asked slowly.
"Don't be stingy, Bruno. We haven't been paid yet. Buy me a drink, or you can treat me, Lucci."
Barry put his arm around Lucci's shoulder and said with a grin.
Lucci didn't say anything, but the pigeon on his shoulder fluttered, "Poor bastard, poor bastard."
“Hey! It’s just one cup, you don’t have to be like this,” Barry said, annoyed.
"Haha, because Barry, you're a penniless wretch."
The long-nosed man laughed heartily.
"Kaku!" Barry shouted, his face flushed.
"Let this old man invite you." Kaku patted Barry on the shoulder and smiled, while also subtly glancing at Kuro.
Lucci and the others didn't actually come to Kuro's place; they just had a few drinks at the bar, chatted for a while, and then left.
The bar was still quite crowded. As people gradually left, leaving only Kuro and his group at their table, Bruno walked over, collected their empty glasses, and said softly, "We don't need weaklings. Weaklings are too much of a nuisance."
This means... I was rejected?
Kuro stared at Bruno.
Bruno was silent for a moment after being looked at by him. "If you want to report, then go ahead."
Suddenly, Kuro reached out.
Bruno clenched his fist, ready to teach this ignorant little navy a lesson, but his hand was grabbed by Kuro.
Don't worry!
Kuro gripped his hand tightly, his smile almost splitting his face.
"We'll leave right away, and we definitely won't cause you any trouble!"
Is there really such a good thing in the world?
Surprisingly, CP9 doesn't think much of them.
That makes sense. Enies Lobby and the headquarters both belong to the World Government and are on the same level, not in a superior-subordinate relationship. If they don't need the Navy, they can simply refuse.
This is great news for Kuro.
He doesn't even need to get involved.
This wasn't him giving up voluntarily; it was that they didn't want him.
"Lida, stop eating. Crowe, help them clean up the bar. They've been eating and drinking here for most of the day, you should at least show some appreciation."
