The warship that a sergeant-level officer could command was a small patrol vessel with a standard crew of eighty.
No doubt about it, it's a full complement.
Ammunition was stuffed full, medicine was stuffed full, and of course, food was stuffed full as well. In pursuit of survival, Kuro took only enough food to fill his stomach.
It's enough food to feed eighty sailors for three months.
"belch..."
Mendel patted his round belly, let out a comfortable burp, and tears streamed down his face: "It's been a year. We haven't had a proper meal in a whole year. Thank you so much, Navy."
"You're welcome, Mayor Mendel. It's normal for the navy to help civilians. Besides, when I came to buy supplies a few years ago, you gave me a lot of discounts."
Kuro shook his head and asked, "So, you haven't had enough to eat for a year? Why?"
Upon hearing this, Mendel's face showed horror, and he shook his head frantically: "We are already grateful for the food you can give us. Don't ask why. Take whatever this town has that you want, even though we are already dirt poor."
If he could leave, Kuro would definitely leave.
However, looking at the mayor's dull, lifeless eyes and the image of the townspeople wolfing down their food that he had seen before, he sighed.
"We are the navy, we are not afraid, please speak..."
"Sir Navy!"
Mendel looked at Kuro with emotion, as if he had made up his mind, and said, "It's Florida, that demon, Florida!"
Florida?
"The Florida you mentioned, is he a great pirate?" Cass, who was standing to the side, couldn't help but ask.
"It's not a matter of whether it's a pirate or not, it's that kind, the very rare kind... It's covered in white fur, like a ghost wandering around, but unfortunately I can't see its face."
Mendel said in fear, “Since it came here a year ago, it has eaten all the food on the island. It also doesn’t allow us to run away. Occasionally, ships come here, but whether they are pirates or treasure hunters, they inexplicably lose their strength as soon as they arrive. That demon makes us confiscate ships and exchange our treasure for food to feed it, leaving us only a little to survive.”
I know we're still alive because we're still useful. Maybe one day when we're no longer useful, Florida will eat us up. This is already a cursed island!
