"What's going on?"
Kuro looked down and thought, "Is this... a funeral?"
Kro reacted even faster, running down to pick up a newspaper from the scattered pile, glancing at it briefly before his eyes narrowed and he ran back up.
"Mr. Kuro, this is not good..."
"Um?"
"The King of the Principality of Faya is dead."
"ah?"
Kuro turned his head and flicked his finger, sending the newspaper flying in front of him. He quickly glanced at the page and immediately cursed, "This is really fucking interesting. How much money did Morgans take to make such a lavish distribution of something like this? A hundred Berries a month in newspapers, just scattered like that?"
The newspaper mentioned above, not the World Economic News, is a local newspaper. But the key point is that the news bird is a product of Morgans, while the world government uses messenger bats.
The content here is quite interesting, mainly consisting of two points:
The King of the Duchy of Faya died, and the Duchy of Sema and the Duchy of Felton united to declare war on the Duchy of Faya.
It's like we made a pact.
"What's going on? Didn't you just contact the King of the Principality of Faya a few days ago?"
Kuro tossed the newspaper to Kro, found a sofa to sit down on, lit a cigar, exhaled a puff of smoke, and then grinned, "This is really interesting. Someone doesn't want the Principality of Faya to become a member state? Who? Red-Haired Shanks? He should have left by now; he's not interested anyway."
"They must be local nobles."
Kro adjusted his glasses and analyzed, "Mr. Kro, the situation in the Principality of Faya is a bit different. The king's power is not great; it is mostly in the hands of the great nobles. The territory actually controlled by the king is only about one-third of the Principality of Faya. The rest is controlled by the great nobles. Perhaps something unexpected has happened."
Kuro, who considers himself a strategist, began gathering intelligence after Kuro finished his battle with Mihawk.
As a naval officer, he could easily glean this general distribution of power from the mayor with just a few words.
Like most kingdoms in the world, the Duchy of Faya had a king who was more of a high-ranking nobleman than a true king, but in Kro's eyes, this was perfectly normal.
The Duchy of Faya itself is filled with nobles of all ranks. Of the four major cities, only the capital is controlled by the king. The others, including 'Amdan', are under the control of other nobles and are only nominally part of the Duchy of Faya. The king can only collect taxes here and nothing else.
In terms of territory, the king controlled one-third, while the other nobles controlled the remainder.
"What an accident? He didn't want to join the republics? What a coincidence? This person just died, and then the two opposing countries attacked. Did they divide up the territory before becoming a republic?"
Kuro exhaled a puff of smoke and said, "I remember this king was the one who proposed the idea of the member states, right? Now that he's dead, who am I supposed to contact?"
Although it's not a member state, the World Government hasn't stipulated that it can't interfere in the internal affairs of non-member states, but how should this kind of thing be handled?
One is Teach's territory, and the other is Shanks' territory. Their countries can have their own internal wars without anyone interfering. But if the Navy gets involved, it could easily turn into a battle between the Navy and pirates.
This is the New World. If things go wrong, it could easily escalate into a full-scale war between the Navy and pirates.
With Kaido and Linlin forming an alliance, the remaining pirates in the New World seemed to have received some kind of signal. Based on their own intelligence, many pirates were secretly forming alliances. Teach's current absence has led many to target his position, but Shanks' renewed actions have further complicated the situation in the New World.
The New World is like a powder keg right now. The pirates can do whatever they want internally, but if external forces intervene, things could get really messed up.
Given the current global situation, it is not to be touched.
This put Kuro in a very awkward position.
Kuro lay back on the sofa and asked, "Where's Lida?"
“She might be eating out. You know, Miss Lida’s been looking for good food lately,” Chloe said honestly.
"Go find her and bring her back, then call the higher-ups and ask how to resolve this. Also, I need a solution, not for me to take charge of the operation. Just convey this message to me. As for how to achieve the goal, you figure it out."
Kuro is already exhausted. Every time he goes out on a mission, if things don't go well and he loses contact with his superiors, he always has to solve the problem himself.
He's just a lieutenant general, what can he possibly solve?
This is a bit of a noobish matter. He'll consider the potential consequences, but he doesn't want to take responsibility for it. He'd rather leave it to his superiors.
"Hey, Navy!"
Just as Kuro was about to leave, a drunken vagrant carrying a bottle kicked open the office door. The vagrant staggered as he took three steps and then two steps back, yelling at Kuro and Kuro, "The king is dead! I order you to immediately arrest the other nobles and take control of the Duchy of Faya."
Kuro turned to look at him and said, "You call yourself the emperor of Astrea, not the emperor of the World Government. You're not the one sitting on that throne in the sky. Who are you blabbering to?"
Upon hearing this, Kuro was taken aback. He glanced at Kuro discreetly, swallowed hard, and subconsciously bowed and took his leave.
I have a feeling that I've learned some kind of unspeakable secret from Mr. Kuro's words...
Is someone sitting on that throne in the sky?!
"Both kingdoms are about to attack! They must have conspired with these corrupt nobles! That damned king may have been a bad ruler, but he came to you as a member state for the sake of peace under his rule. But now that he's dead, the member states are gone. Those nobles won't accept that. They just want territory. They don't care who the king is. If they can get more land and wealth, they'll sell anything!"
The vagrant, Fareya Joshua, roared, "They killed the king! They are traitors! Seize them!!"
These words prompted Kuro to pull out a cigar from his pocket, take one out, and toss it to Joshua, laughing:
"Your analysis is quite good, but I'm from the Navy, and I'm not qualified to do this without orders from above. However, I can give you a suggestion. Aren't you doing a great job? As the 'Emperor' of Astia, why not use your prestige to rally support?"
"Think about it, once you succeed, what this country will become is entirely up to you. It's better to transform the country according to your own ideas than to place your hopes on others' awakening. If you don't take the first step, why should others do what you say?"
"There have never been roads in the world before. The first road was created by the first person who walked it."
