Chapter 17: Midnight End

Yesterday, when Qi Mi came back with food, he brought in a bag of bread to give to the man, but when he came in, he found that the man was already dead.

He was lying on the ground, blood spurting from his mouth. Qi Mi squatted down to check and found that the man must have broken a rib when he turned over, which pierced his lungs and caused heavy bleeding.

In just one night, this man was torn into pieces and eaten by the mutated species, becoming just like the people on the street, with only a skeleton left.

Eva believed that she had seen many horrific scenes, but none of them shocked her as much as the scene before her. Not only was it visually bloody, but the stench was also so strong that it hit her nose directly.

She couldn't help it, turned around, retched a few times, and hurried away.

Qi Mi came over and said, "The information I know was told to me by this person."

"Oh, how did you know he was the last human being in this city?" Eva curled her lips and tried her best to suppress the churning in her stomach.

Seeing that she had taken the bait, Qi Mi didn't rush to answer. He tilted his head and smiled, "Want to know? Then let's make a deal. If you help me save a child, I'll tell you what I know... Of course, I can also give you a fire to keep you warm."

Eva was silent for two seconds, then nodded reluctantly: "Okay, the deal is over, I'll leave."

Qi Mi's eyebrows curved: "No problem."

With this motorcycle, Qi Mi took Eva back to kindergarten in just minutes.

As soon as Eva walked in, the children who were playing with toys stopped playing instantly and all stared at her with their little eyes.

"OMG, Mi, I'm most afraid of these little idiots looking at me." Eva tightly grasped the scabbard strap on her shoulder and moved closer to Qi Mi for help.

Qi Mi smiled and patted her shoulder, then turned around and told the little ones, "You guys go play yourselves, this is the doctor who's here to treat Di Yuntong."

"Wow, he's a foreigner! This is the first time I've seen a living foreigner!" Wang Xiaohu sat up and exclaimed in surprise.

Zhao Yizhe was also pleasantly surprised and immediately began to report his English learning achievements: "Hello, my name is zhaoyizhe, what is your name?"

Eva rolled her eyes secretly: It’s so noisy!

For a moment, the children whispered to each other as if they had witnessed something extraordinary. Qi Mi held down Wang Xiaohu and Zhao Yize, two children who were eager to join in the fun, and said seriously, "It's your own game. It has nothing to do with you."

"Oh, Teacher Qi, I'll just go and take a look! Just for a moment!" Wang Xiaohu started to act coquettishly.

Qi Mi frowned: "No, sit back."

Seeing Qi Mi's cold face, Zhao Yize and Wang Xiaohu could only obey.

Afraid that these little brats would come forward and cause trouble, she stood next to them to intimidate them.

Eva politely nodded to Zheng Yuanyuan and Du Rui, walked over to Di Yuntong, and touched his forehead. After closing her eyes and examining him for a moment, she said softly, "Don't worry, it's just pneumonia."

"What kind of medicine do I need to take?" Zheng Yuanyuan asked anxiously.

Eva lowered her head, lifted the blanket, took off the big knife from her shoulder, and leaned against the wall: "No need to take medicine, please undress this little... kid."

"Huh?" Du Rui was stunned for a moment, thinking that it was so cold now, wouldn't unbuttoning his clothes make his condition worse? Undecided, he looked at Qi Mi, and when she nodded, he obediently did as he pleased and unbuttoned Di Yuntong's clothes.

Di Yuntong, who was still running a fever, shuddered when he was suddenly exposed to cold air and started crying in grievance.

When Eva heard the child cry, her facial features all clenched together, disgust written all over her face. Although her hand reached out to touch Di Yuntong's small chest, her body leaned back far away, as if there was a monster in front of her that would bite her hand.

She stretched out two fingers and stroked from Di Yuntong's small chest to his abdomen, then spread out five fingers and gently covered his chest.

Du Rui and Zheng Yuanyuan exchanged a glance, feeling that this act of not taking medicine or getting an acupuncture injection was something only an unscrupulous, unlicensed doctor would do. Both of them felt it was a bit unreliable and gave Qi Mi a look.

But Qi Mi didn't notice, she was so engrossed in looking at Eva's hand. Perhaps because her physique wasn't that of a traditional human, she could clearly see the tiny specks of purple-red light floating from Eva's palm.

It is even weaker than a firefly, and should be the so-called "medicine" of the healing skill.

After more than ten seconds of palm coverage, Di Yuntong's complexion improved significantly, and his coughing became less severe. Eva raised her hand and helped him pull up his clothes, covering him, then looked up: "OK, it's done now."

"Is that all?" Zheng Yuanyuan stared in disbelief. Even a god wouldn't be able to save someone so quickly, right?

Eva picked up the big knife and nodded nonchalantly: "Of course, it's just ordinary pneumonia..." As she spoke, she looked up at Qi Mi, "Mi, don't forget what you promised me."

Qi Mi smiled and pointed outside: "Of course, let's go out and talk."

Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed two small figures getting ready to move. She quickly ordered with a stern face, "None of your business. Sit down and continue your mission of protecting the Douding class."

Zhao Yizhe and Wang Xiaohu looked at each other and pouted in disappointment: "Okay..."

They agreed, but their hearts were still set on the socializing. No one could stop these two socially adept kids. When Eva left the classroom, Wang Xiaohu politely waved goodbye, "Goodbye, foreigner!" He even deliberately changed his tone several times, imitating the clumsy way foreigners speak Chinese.

Zhao Yizhe was not willing to be outdone and hurriedly corrected her: "Wrong, she didn't understand, you should say bye."

Bang!

Eva's loud slam of the door was somewhat mixed with some personal grudges.

"OMG, I'm really fed up with these two little idiots." Eva rolled her eyes. "How can you be with such a large group of little devils?"

Qi Mi turned and walked towards the door, raised an eyebrow and said, "Maybe... because the other side of the devil is an angel?"

Eva shook her head in disapproval. To her, the past few minutes had been like hell. The sight of so many "little devils" staring at her was truly more terrifying than seeing a monster.

When they reached the gate, Qi Mi casually got on his motorcycle and threw his helmet to Eva: "I'll give you a ride and tell you what's going on on the way."

Eva: "Where are you going?"

Qi Mi looked up and smiled: "Go move bricks."

At first, Eva didn't understand what moving bricks meant, but when she saw Qi Mi passing by a supermarket, he tied two empty shopping carts to the back of his motorcycle, and there was a loud clanging sound all the way.

When we arrived at the destination, we saw that they were really moving bricks, real red bricks.

This place is some distance away from the kindergarten, and an unfinished building stands alone in the dark.

The house has taken shape, but the roof has not yet been completed. The neat steel frame is crisscrossed straightly. There is a pile of sand at the bottom of the building, a pile of bricks at another, and a pile of cement at another.

Qi Mi rolled up his sleeves, pushed two shopping carts and went straight to the brick pile. He picked up three bricks at the same time with one hand and carefully laid them out in the shopping cart.

Eva's mind was filled with the information that Qi Mi had told her on the way, and she stood there in a daze.

Because this was the second explanation, Qi Mi's language was more concise and to the point. Eva was a doomsday player, so he only needed to tell her a few key points, without having to explain as much as he did to Zheng Yuanyuan and Du Rui.

The first point is that this doomsday may be facing advancement.

The second point is that there should be four types of people in the apocalypse: advanced people, porcelain people, monsters and apocalypse players.

The third point is that the safe area is located near the sea.

Suddenly, Eva thought of something. Her mouth opened wide, and her expression became exaggerated. "Oh my god! Advancement... If players in the apocalypse also have to advance, then if we fail to advance, will we also become monsters?"

Qi Mi put a pile of bricks into the shopping cart and nodded in agreement. "And if the players in the apocalypse fail to advance, then it will be even more difficult to deal with them... After all, everyone has some skills, more or less."

Eva clutched her blonde hair in despair: "OMG! Why did I choose this apocalypse?!"

Qi Mi smiled and said, "Don't worry, these are just our guesses."

"Guessing means there's a chance." Eva walked over to Qi Mi. "By the way, you just said the safe area is by the sea. How long does it take to get to the beach from here?"

Qi Mi paused and said, "Let me think...it seems like it would take more than three hours to take the high-speed rail."

Eva pulled the corner of her mouth and smiled falsely: "OK, I think I might die of exhaustion and not be able to walk."

Qi Mi's eyes turned and he looked at her with a smile: "Would you like to consider joining us?"

“NO!”

Eva replied decisively, without any hesitation.

"Okay, whatever you want." Qi Mi shrugged and continued his work of moving bricks.

After Qi Mi fell silent, the vast space fell silent again, the only sound being the sound of her fiddling with bricks. As dark as the night, Eva's heart sank as heavy as ever. She stood aside, torn.

If I leave, I don’t know where to go. If I stay, I don’t want to stay.

It was late at night and the wind was cold. She grabbed the hood of her down jacket and put it on her head, leaning against the wall behind her, watching Qi Mi busy himself with his own things.

Suddenly, a doubt flashed through her mind, and it grew bigger and bigger——

She never seemed to have said that she had healing powers, how did Qi fans know?!

Just as she was thinking this, before she could open her mouth to ask, Eva felt that her ears suddenly became unusually quiet. In the silence, she could only hear her own breathing.

I looked up and was shocked.

Qi Mi didn't know when he stopped moving, and a crescent-shaped scimitar appeared in his hand, flashing with a white light.

Her eyes were sharp, staring straight at this side, and her footsteps were already moving towards this side.

“!!!”

Eva reacted quickly and pulled out the long knife from her back.

Just as he was about to swing his knife at Qi Mi, he heard her coldly shout, "Don't move!"

The half-second pause was enough for Eva to see Qi Mi's micro-expressions clearly. She found that Qi Mi didn't seem to be looking at her, but was looking past her at something else.

At this moment, Eva caught a glimpse of something moving out of the corner of her eye.

She immediately tensed up and squatted down.

Qi Mi moved quickly, swinging the scimitar within half a second of Eva's movement. The end of the scimitar was connected to a stainless steel chain, and after accurately hitting the target, the blade was carried by the chain and returned to the handle in a flash.

Qi Mi shook off the unknown liquid on the knife.

Eva dodged to the side and looked intently at the moving thing on the ground: "Bugs?"

This thing is dark green all over and cone-shaped. The end with a thicker cross-section is flowing with black and red liquid, which is slippery and twisting, making people frown.

Qi Mi took a quick look and raised his head to point at the wall: "It's not a bug, it's a piece of flower vine."
