Chapter 5: Midnight End

The supermarket warehouse was overstocked, and there might be some food left behind. After putting the two overflowing shopping carts away, Qi Mi picked out a handy fruit knife from the kitchenware section and found a roll of yarn on the ground. He tied the end of the fruit knife tightly, using the yarn to pull it back up. He no longer had to throw the knife and miss, leaving it useless as before.

After making such a simple and crude weapon, Qi Mi held up his mobile phone and tiptoed towards the warehouse.

At a glance, I saw the half foot sticking out of the warehouse door.

There was plump skin, not white bones, and the toenails were painted with red nail polish.

Walking further, he could see a woman wearing a lavender floral dress with the upper part of the dress pulled down to her waist, confirming what Qi Mi had just heard when he heard the sound: there was indeed a spring scene here.

only.

This woman's face was clearly the same as the monster from the kindergarten, with her eyeballs sticking out and her mouth and nose squeezed together to form a mouthpart. She was definitely not human.

The spring scene in his mind suddenly became strange, and Qi Mi suddenly felt a chill.

She gently kicked the female monster's foot, and seeing that she didn't move, she tightly grasped the fruit knife that was glowing white, and slipped sideways into the warehouse.

There were two skeletons in the warehouse. Apart from those inedible daily necessities, the only remaining food was a bag of bread next to the skeletons.

The bread is well packaged and has a shelf life of three months.

Qi Mi picked up the bread and accidentally tripped the female monster while walking. The monster turned from sideways to lying flat. At this time, she found that the female monster's abdomen was strangely deflated, as if there was no internal organs to support it.

There were no scars on the woman's body, only her mouth was stained with blood...

No way.

Were the internal organs sucked out?

Qi Mi couldn't help but shudder again. He left the warehouse, put the bread in the shopping cart, and quickly ran back to the kindergarten pushing the two piles of "trophies".

With a crash, a shopping cart full of toys fell onto the big red blanket that had been brought earlier, and the six children who were still awake all ran over.

Qi Mijiang picked up several children's cotton coats on the road and put them all on them.

"Yue--Teacher Qi, these clothes smell so bad." Wang Xiaohu covered his nose and said in disgust.

Qi Mi zipped him up and said, "Better to stink than to freeze to death, right? Just make do with it for today. I'll go out and look for something for you tomorrow."

"Looking?" The clever Zhao Yize immediately caught Qi Mi's words and realized something was wrong. "Teacher, you didn't pay for all these things, did you?"

Qi Fan reacted for a second and explained: "These are left to us by the heroes who went to save the sun. You don't have to pay."

"Really?" Zhao Yize frowned, looking scrutinizing.

Qi Mi smiled: "Yes, how could the teacher lie to you?"

Wang Xiaohu covered his nose, as if he was about to faint from the fumes: "Ugh, couldn't those heroes leave me a piece of non-stinky clothing?"

Qi Mi smiled. It was rare to hear children talking so softly here. "Go ahead and play. I'll get you something to eat. But be quiet. Some of the kids are asleep."

"Okay~" the children replied in a whisper.

After patting Wang Xiaohu's prickly little head with his short haircut, Qi Mi stood up and walked to the fire, placing her hands on the fire to warm them. Her tracksuit couldn't keep out the cold, and goose bumps covered her entire body. Zheng Yuanyuan took a look and thoughtfully took out her remaining down jacket and put it on her.

Qi Mi smiled at Zheng Yuanyuan and said, "Thank you."

"We should be the ones thanking you." Zheng Yuanyuan smiled and sat back in her original seat.

At the same time, Du Rui stood up: "You guys chat, I'll go get some water."

"I'd better go." Qi Mi said worriedly.

Du Rui stopped and although his expression didn't change much, he still had the same expressionless face as always, but Qi fans always felt that he seemed a little angry.

"Teacher Qi, I know you mean well, but we can't rely on you alone for everything," he said.

Qi Mi blinked, not knowing what to say for a moment, until Zheng Yuanyuan said, "Just let Teacher Du go," then she stammered and said "ah".

Du Rui turned around and went out with the kettle.

Qi Mi stared at the closed door in surprise, then slowly turned around with a look of surprise and looked down at his hands that were red from being burned by the fire.

After a moment, she couldn't help but ask, "Is Teacher Du... angry?"

"How is that possible?" Zheng Yuanyuan smiled. Seeing that the flame seemed to be dying, she added a pile of dry grass.

Bang! The iron sheet made a sound as it was burned by the fire.

Zheng Yuanyuan lowered her head, using the legs of a table from the opposite class to press down the dry grass. She whispered, "Actually, I understand how Teacher Du feels. Everyone's pretty scared about coming here suddenly, but they can't show it for fear of disturbing the children. Honestly, I still haven't come to terms with it... Have we really arrived at the end of the world?"

"I always thought this kind of weird thing only happened in TV dramas or novels, that it was all fake. But I pinched myself secretly, and it hurt, but I didn't wake up, so I know it wasn't a dream." At this point, Zheng Yuanyuan sniffed, and tears escaped her throat. "Teacher Qi, I'm really scared, but I have to cheer up. My daughter is here, and the children in the Douding class are all here. I... I'm really worried that something will happen to them."

Qi Mi hurriedly turned around to take a look at the children who were having fun. Fortunately, they didn't notice this side.

She moved the small stool closer to Zheng Yuanyuan and wiped the tears from her eyes. "You didn't let the children see it, which is great."

Zheng Yuanyuan shook her head and wiped her eyes with her sleeve. "I'm sorry, Teacher Qi, I shouldn't have cried. I know these kids can only rely on us right now, and I shouldn't have cried... But, I, I feel so useless. Teacher Du must feel the same way I do, relying on you all the time, while the two of us adults are just sitting here like useless people."

"How is that possible? When I was not around, weren't you the ones who protected the children? You were really helpful." Qi Mi comforted her softly, patting her back.

At this time, Du Rui came in with a kettle. Seeing Qi Mi comforting Zheng Yuanyuan, he hesitated for a moment, then came over with the kettle and placed it on the broken tin bucket. The kettle just happened to fit on the mouth of the tin bucket.

He didn't sit down. After glancing at the two of them, he moved his small stool to the children.

"Teacher Du, can you be the father of the playing house?"

"What father? Teacher Du is here to be the captain of Ultraman!"

The two children started arguing, and Qi Mi didn't hear what Du Rui said. She just patted Zheng Yuanyuan's back and watched the children playing on the quilt in the firelight.

Everyone's eyes are bright. Unlike adults, children don't hide their emotions, especially when they are three or four years old. When they laugh, they are truly happy; when they cry, they are truly sad; when they are angry, they will inevitably vent.

And now, the six children are all smiling.

She had been to many scarred worlds, and she had never seen such a pure smile. Even children her age, due to the absence of relatives, food shortages, and other problems, possessed a gloom and deadness that was not appropriate for their age.

Qi Mi looked at them, and the corners of his lips curled up unconsciously.

The smiles of these human cubs are pure and innocent, like the few remaining flowers in a world as rotten as mud, and they must be well cared for.

Zheng Yuanyuan's emotions had almost calmed down. She wiped her tears and followed her gaze.

Gradually, a smile filled her eyes. "Actually, children are braver than we thought. I was frightened by the insects just now, but none of these children are afraid at all."

"Yes, they were surprisingly well-behaved today. Did you notice? Even when they were playing, they were very careful not to make any noise." Qi Mi said with a smile.

Zheng Yuanyuan: "Yeah, really well behaved."

Dong, there was another sound of the iron bucket.

Du Rui subconsciously turned his head and happened to meet Qi Mi and Zheng Yuanyuan's sparkling eyes and gentle smiles.

Seeing that they were probably done discussing it, Du Rui whispered a few words to the children and then sat back down on a small stool. He lifted the lid of the scalding kettle with his sleeve, glanced at the bubbling water, and put the lid back down.

He rubbed his hands and turned to look at Qi Fan: "Thanks to you, Teacher Qi."

"You're welcome." Qi Mi said with a smile.

Du Rui pursed his lips, paused, and continued, "I can see that you are very experienced, Teacher Qi. If there is anything we can do, just tell us directly. We two adults have hands and feet, and we don't want to be a burden to you."

Qi Fan: "Well, I won't be polite with you."

Du Rui nodded.

At this moment, Zheng Yuanyuan seemed to have thought of something and asked, "By the way, Teacher Qi, what kind of apocalypse is this?"

Getting down to business, Qi Mi suddenly became serious and lowered his voice, "I guess the sun hasn't risen in a long time in this world. The temperature is very low, the entire city has no electricity, and both insects and humans have mutated... Other than that, it seems to be very similar to the apocalypse I've been to before... Oh, right, this world should be the same as the one we originally lived in, at least this city is the same. I found all these things from the nearby supermarket."

Du Rui nodded in agreement: "I also noticed that the layout of the corridor outside is the same as that of Chunya Kindergarten."

Qi Fan: "Well, it's very likely a parallel world. I saw the date here on a calendar in the supermarket. It's July 13, 2025, summer."

"July 2025..." Zheng Yuanyuan repeated in a low voice and exclaimed, "Isn't that the same time as our world?"

"right."

Perhaps it was a habit, after a few words, the three kindergarten teachers would glance at the children playing with toys. Seeing that they were having fun, they would turn back and continue.

"And it's not just the date..." Qi Mi pressed the power button on his phone, lighting up the screen, "The passage of time should be the same."

On the screen, the cartoon time style just jumped to [85:32].

After dark, Qi Mi picked up his phone and noticed the time. It was [15:58], which means they should have come into this world around 15:55.

The three of them were chatting seriously and didn't notice the serious expressions of the six little guys beside them.

Zhao Yize retracted his gaze, frowned, and looked around at the other five cubs: "Look, they are looking at us again, they must be hiding something from us!"
