Chapter 76: Hundred Stories

"Still looking for the murderer? It was just a dream, and you actually believed it!" Mao Xiang shouted, "Who else could the murderer be but Liang Hui? He saw the B&B owner's daughter was pretty and wanted to do that to her. The B&B owner cornered him in the room, so he desperately killed them both with a knife. As he was escaping, it started raining heavily, and he slipped and drowned. It's crystal clear, what else is there to discuss?!"

"That's right!" Xu Wei let go of Qi Mi. "I was living in the same room with Liang Hui that day, and I heard him say with my own ears that he was interested in that girl. You all know who Liang Hui is, and how many girls he's gotten pregnant. And you're still trying to clear his name?!"

Compared to them, He Qixuan's tone was much gentler, but his attitude remained firm. "Yes, Qi Mi, that day I saw Liang Hui go up to the third floor where the boss's daughter lived. Within minutes, I heard the sound of something heavy falling to the ground. The forensic examination also confirmed that they died around midnight. What could be wrong with that?"

Seeing everyone rushing towards him, Qi Mi smiled and waved his hands, "Don't be so angry with me. I didn't go that day. It was just the seven of you. It's normal for me to be curious."

Li Hui sighed, his emotions stirring and sweating again. He turned up the fan to full blast and placed it in front of him. "Qi Mi, you may be curious, but you shouldn't just say the murderer is someone else. It's been twelve years, and you're suddenly saying there's a murderer among us. Aren't you just trying to sow discord among us?"

"That's right, Qi Mi, it's a bit too much to say that there is a murderer among us just because we had a nightmare." Cao Mingze, who has always been a peacemaker, also criticized.

Qi Mi chuckled and said nothing more.

Perhaps this action touched everyone's nerves, and everyone suddenly lost interest, and went to the toilet or drink water.

He Qixuan stood up and walked to the window to smoke a cigarette. As soon as he opened the curtains, he saw a red eyeball stuck on the glass.

The eyeballs were huge, almost taking up the entire glass, staring at him maliciously.

“!!!”

He Qixuan stepped back in fear, not caring about the burning candles at his feet, and kicked over more than a dozen of them with one kick.

He thought he was dazzled and was rubbing his eyes with his hands. Before he opened his eyes, he heard several screams and the sound of chaotic running footsteps coming one after another beside him.

He Qixuan immediately felt something was wrong - it turned out that everyone could see this eye, and this eye really existed!

His eyeballs rolled, coldly taking in the terrified expressions of these people. Then, a crack appeared from the lower part of his eyeball and slowly grew larger, like a mouth opening and closing, making a strange giggle.

Although the windows of the room were closed, the laughter penetrated the glass and lingered clearly in everyone's ears.

"The game...is not over...I can't...leave..." The mouth on the eyeball opened exaggeratedly and then shrank strangely, and this sentence that sounded like Mandarin came out from nowhere.

While everyone was stunned, Qi Mi quickly spoke up to instruct them not to move: "Everyone calm down! We only have six candles still burning. Don't let them go out, otherwise who knows what will happen!"

“…”

Everyone suddenly stopped moving and froze like statues.

Qi Mi carefully retreated to the edge of the candle and walked a few steps to the door to check.

As soon as he opened the door, he heard several people behind him urging him to close the door quickly. The red eyeball outside the door was already showing signs of trying to drill in. He believed that if he kept the door open for a while longer, it would crawl in through the gap.

"Fuck, what the hell is going on?" Mao Xiang yelled.

The room is monitored by these strange blood-red eyeballs all around, and no one can escape from this room.

Xu Wei's face turned pale. After finding his original seat and sitting down, he looked at Qi Mi and said, "Could this also be your doing?"

Qi Mi turned the door's lock button and walked back. Hearing Xu Wei actually doubting him, he felt amused: "Do you think it's possible?"

"So what is this—"

Before Xu Wei could finish his words, the bells tied to the four mirrors began to ring, forcing him to come to an abrupt halt.

Even though there was no wind and no one was touching them, the bells rang lively.

Everyone's heart was beating like a drum. They knew that the ringing of these bells meant that ghosts had descended upon them. The game was still going on, but the ghosts had already appeared.

The last ghost these people mentioned was Liang Hui.

Perhaps to confirm everyone's conjecture, blood oozed out of the four mirrors placed in the corners of the wall. Blood flowed freely on the smooth and clean mirror surfaces, revealing four large characters:

Hello friends.

Liang Hui was greeting these people.

The people closest to the scene were so frightened that they immediately huddled together, their spirits on the verge of collapse.

"Don't be afraid, Liang Hui told me in a dream last night that he just wants to get the truth. If everyone can cooperate with him to find the murderer, he will not hurt us, right, Liang Hui?" Qi Mi looked at one of the mirrors.

The word "friend" faded away, and was replaced by the word "yes".

"Look, Liang Hui agreed." Qi Mi said.

“…”

Thanks to Qi Mi's reminder, everyone managed to regain some sense. Even if they were still scared, they felt relieved to see Liang Hui agree to this.

The remaining half breath was stuck in my chest, unable to flow out nor release.

"Well, then let's listen to Liang Hui and continue." He Qixuan adjusted his glasses and quickly pulled the curtains. He didn't dare to sit by the window anymore, so he quickly changed seats with Qi Mi.

Similarly, the others didn't want to get too close to the window, so they all huddled together, inexplicably separating Qi Mi out.

Qi Mi didn't care and felt that the left and right sides were quite spacious.

He took a piece of paper, drew a few horizontal lines on it with a pen, and looked up at them: "Let's get started... First, how were your rooms assigned that day?"

The six of them looked at each other, their thoughts drifting back to twelve years ago.

On the day of high school graduation, all the students in dormitory 405 made an appointment to go out and play together. Qi Mi suddenly had something urgent to do and could not go, so only seven people were left and went to the B&B in the mountains. They were received by the owner of the B&B and his daughter.

Then this night became an unforgettable night for everyone.

That night, there were thunder and lightning, strong winds and heavy rain. Around 12 o'clock, the owner of the B&B and his daughter were found in the room. The daughter's clothes were disheveled and it seemed that she had been raped.

Liang Hui, after being identified by multiple witnesses, was listed as the primary suspect.

The next day, police found his body in a nearby river and initially determined that he died accidentally from falling into the water.

"I remember that I lived on the first floor of the B&B with Liang Hui." When Liang Hui's name was mentioned again at this point, and when Xu Wei thought about having lived in the same room with him, he felt goose bumps all over his body and couldn't help but hug his arms tightly.

Qi Mi was wavering with a pen in his hand: "Is it the left room or the right room on the first floor?"

"Left...left?"

Qi Mi nodded and wrote the names of Xu Wei and Liang Hui in the box on the left.

Next were Li Hui and He Qixuan, who were identified as living in the right room on the second floor.

Mao Xiang and Cao Mingze live in the room on the left side of the second floor.

Lin Fengsong lives alone in a room on the right side of the first floor.

The rooms of the B&B owner and his daughter are on the third floor. The daughter's room where the crime occurred is on the right side of the third floor, directly above Li Hui and He Qixuan's rooms. This is why He Qixuan could clearly hear the noise coming from upstairs.

After briefly writing something on the paper, Qi Mi raised his head again and asked, "Who were the people involved in the identification that day?"

Several people looked at each other, and He Qixuan and Xu Wei slowly raised their hands.

According to the two people's recollections, He Qixuan found cockroaches in the house. When he opened the door and wanted to go to the third floor to find the B&B owner to get insecticide, he saw Liang Hui walking up to the third floor alone.

But after the cockroach was stepped on to death by his roommate Li Hui, He Qixuan looked at his watch and saw that it was already ten minutes past twelve. He thought it was too late and did not go upstairs.

Not long after he lay in bed, he heard two sounds of heavy objects falling from upstairs.

However, he did not think about murder and fell asleep in a daze. When he went upstairs to get insecticide the next morning, he found the B&B owner and his daughter lying in a pool of blood. Then he suddenly remembered the two noises last night, which should be the sounds of them being killed and falling to the ground.

Xu Wei saw Liang Hui running out of the guesthouse in a panic at 12:15. He was able to confirm it was Liang Hui because there was a lightning strike at that moment.

The testimonies of the two people formed a closed loop. One saw him go upstairs, and the other saw him run out, which greatly increased Liang Hui's suspicion.

Later, the police did find his body in a nearby river, and the clothes he was wearing were the same as the ones Xu Wei saw him wearing when he ran away, further confirming that he was not mistaken.

After Liang Hui's death, there was no evidence to prove his guilt.

Qi Mi simply wrote down the testimony on a piece of paper. When he wrote the word "physical evidence," he hesitated for a moment. "I remember that the direct evidence back then was the fruit knife that was stuck in the B&B owner's body, right?"

Xu Wei nodded: "Yes, Liang Hui's fingerprints were found."

Qi Mi thought about it, wrote the word "fingerprint" on the paper, and put a question mark next to it.

Mao Xiang had been staring at what Qi Mi had written with half-closed eyes. When he saw Qi Mi draw a question mark, he suddenly became sarcastic: "Good fellow, class flower, you really think you're a detective? You drew a question mark. Do you have any doubts about this fingerprint? The police don't think there's a problem, but you think there's something wrong?!"

Qi Mi paused, then raised his head with a half-smile: "If everything is fine, what are we doing now? Playing house? Or you can ask Liang Hui now to see if we are playing house?"

Seeing Qi Mi carrying out the resurrected Liang Hui, Mao Xiang felt deflated. He looked around guiltily and put his hands together: "Don't be surprised, Brother Liang Hui, don't be surprised..."
