Chapter 77: Hundred Stories

After Mao Xiang stopped interrupting, the room fell silent.

Qi Mi took a pen and paper and wrote down the five words "alibi", and asked on what basis they were assigned rooms back then.

Xu Wei recalls that the rooms were assigned randomly, seemingly without any specific pattern. A few people would check out the rooms and move in if they liked what they saw. Because he and Liang Hui both liked the cool, minimalist decor of the first floor, they immediately hit it off and moved in together.

The same goes for the other rooms. Whoever likes a room will be randomly paired to live together.

As for Lin Fengsong, he really liked the cozy little room with a single bed, saying it made him feel safe, so he lived in one by himself.

"Were you all in the room when the crime happened that day?" Qi Mi looked around at them.

He Qixuan adjusted his glasses and responded first, "It was in the room. Li Hui and I can prove it. I can even hear Li Hui snoring."

Li Hui pulled the corner of his mouth awkwardly: "I can't help it. It was too late and I was really too sleepy."

Mao Xiang and Cao Mingze looked at each other and said, "I remember we had already closed the door and gone to bed at that time, right?"

Cao Mingze nodded: "It's already that late, he should have gone to bed a long time ago."

As they talked, their eyes unconsciously shifted to Lin Fengsong.

Lin Fengsong was stunned for a moment, then leaned back unconsciously: "Why... are you looking at me like that?"

Mao Xiang raised an eyebrow, a scrutinizing expression crossing his pointed, monkey-faced face. "Of course I think there's something wrong... We can both prove it, but what about you? You were the one who took the initiative to ask to live on your own that day. Could you be the murderer?"

"How, how, how is this possible!" Seeing that everyone was suspecting him, the emotional Lin Fengsong began to stutter unconsciously. "I didn't kill anyone. I, I'm not the murderer!"

Mao Xiang curled his lips. "Of course the murderer claims he's not the murderer. Is there any murderer who would blow himself up? You were alone in a room that night. It would have been so easy for you to do anything. Afterwards, you could just say you were asleep and didn't know anything."

"I, I was just sleeping!" Lin Fengsong was so anxious that his face turned red and white. After a long pause, he said, "No, it wasn't me! I didn't kill anyone!"

"Tsk~" Mao Xiang rolled his eyes, looking disbelieving. It seemed that he was certain that Lin Fengsong was a major suspect.

Seeing that Lin Fengsong's stuttering became even worse due to his anxiety, He Qixuan patted his shoulder to comfort him, "Don't worry, don't worry. We are just speculating. We're not saying it was you... It's just that we can both prove it to each other that night. You live alone, so you are at a disadvantage when it comes to proving your alibi. Or think about it, is there anyone who can prove that you were sleeping in the room at that time?"

"No one can prove it, but I was sleeping at that time!" Lin Fengsong's face turned red with anxiety.

He didn't expect that just because he slept in a room alone, he would feel so speechless after so many years.

In the end, Qi Mi handed him a drink, and only after drinking it did he feel his heartbeat stabilize a little.

Lin Fengsong's mind cleared up a bit as his lips and teeth felt cool. He seemed to have thought of something and suddenly raised his head: "You said that you can prove each other's facts, but it seems that's not necessarily the case."

"What's the meaning?"

Lin Fengsong stared at Xu Wei: "You and Liang Hui were in the same room. Liang Hui was not there at the time, and you were the only one in the room. How can you prove that you were sleeping in the room?"

Xu Wei: “?”

Everyone's eyes turned to Xu Wei again.

Lin Fengsong was right. If we temporarily believe that Li Hui and He Qixuan, Mao Xiang and Cao Mingze can prove each other, then Xu Wei, who was left alone in the room, was actually in the same situation as him. No one could prove that he was in the room at that time.

The sudden reversal made Mao Xiang very excited, and he shouted at the top of his voice.

Xu Wei unconsciously stepped back: "No, do you guys have any stance? Why are you suddenly targeting me again?!"

Mao Xiang touched his chin seriously, his eyes scrutinizing him. "Because we do have reasonable suspicions about you. You and Liang Hui were in the same room. If you wanted to frame him, it would be a piece of cake! Don't you agree?!"

Mao Xiang spoke passionately and thought he would receive applause and welcome from the people present. However, he didn't expect that the room fell silent as soon as he asked. He suddenly felt bored and shut up awkwardly.

Now Xu Wei had no way to defend himself.

He waved his arms exaggeratedly to explain to everyone, his face almost as pale as paper: "Brother Hui is here right now, you can't say anything nonsense! I have no grudge against him, why would I put the blame on him?!"

"Everyone knows that you have been cursing Liang Hui behind his back, saying he is showing off and wants him to be struck by lightning. What grudge are you talking about?" Mao Xiang exposed his weakness.

"What the hell are you talking about!" Xu Wei roared, grabbing Mao Xiang by the collar. "If we talk about people cursing Liang Hui, aren't you the one who curses the most?! All day long, you're either being sarcastic about this or that. Who the hell doesn't know that you're the biggest bastard among us?"

"Xu Wei! Say it again!" Mao Xiang was enraged and stood up suddenly. As a short man, he could only rely on raising his voice to compete with the big Xu Wei.

Xu Wei: "I'm saying it! Who in dormitory 405 hasn't been criticized by you? You say Liang Hui is a pretentious person, Qi Mi is a pretty boy, and He Qixuan is a hypocrite... In your eyes, none of us are good!"

There was probably no way to refute it. Mao Xiang was furious and held his breath for a long time before he finally said, "I, I was young and frivolous and ignorant at that time. Besides, it's not a big deal! You still remember it until now, how petty! You are so vindictive, who knows if you harbored a grudge against the B&B owner's daughter and deliberately killed her to put the blame on Liang Hui, who lived with me!"

"What nonsense are you talking about!"

"I'm not talking nonsense!" Mao Xiang became increasingly agitated and asked the others, "Hey, do you remember? That night, Xu Wei flirted with that girl during dinner, and then she just said a few words back, and he still refused to accept it. Is that true?!"

He Qixuan and Li Hui looked at each other and blinked. "Okay, it seems like there was such a thing?"

"That's it! Xu Wei, you're still crying wolf!" Mao Xiang pushed Xu Wei away. "You said Liang Hui told you in the room that he was interested in the boss's daughter. I think you made that up. Liang Hui is dead anyway, there's no evidence. It all depends on how you put it! In my opinion, you told Liang Hui that you were attracted to the boss's daughter, and because he rejected you, you felt resentful and wanted to rape and kill him!"

"I didn't!" Xu Wei shouted loudly, and the blue veins in his neck popped out.

Mao Xiang was frightened by his eyes and quickly squeezed into the crowd, but he was still not forgiving: "Look at your eyes, and you still say that you don't want to kill people? Everyone, I think the murderer has been exposed. Let's hand him over to Liang Hui, and the game will be over!"

Everyone was already unsettled by these strange events. After finally finding the so-called murderer, they all wanted to end the game as soon as possible and leave. So after a few people looked at each other, He Qixuan cleared his throat and said, "Then..."

"Isn't it too hasty to just conclude that Xu Wei is the murderer?"

In the silence, Qi Mi's voice slowly slid out.

Everyone was stunned.

Xu Wei walked over to Qi Mi with a grateful look on his face and sat down next to him, saying angrily, "There's nothing I can say to this bunch of brainless people!"

Seeing that the game that was about to end was still going on, Mao Xiang immediately jumped up and said, "No, Qi Mi, what on earth do you want to do? You said Liang Hui was wrongly accused and asked us to find the murderer. We found one, but you came up with another one too carelessly. What on earth do you want to do? Do you really want to kill us?!"

Qi Mi sneered: "I said we should find the murderer, but I didn't say we can just find anyone and label him as the murderer."

"What's the meaning?"

"Do you have any evidence?" Qi Mi spread his hands towards them. "Do you have any evidence proving that Xu Wei murdered someone and framed Liang Hui?"

They looked at each other again, as if staring at each other in silence had become their habitual action since they started discussing this case.

Mao Xiang's eyes flashed as he came up with a good idea. He followed Qi Mi's lead and spread his hands to him: "Evidence, evidence that proves that Xu Wei did not kill anyone and did not frame Liang Hui."

Qi Fan: "..."

For a while, Qi Mi and Mao Xiang confronted each other, but neither side could produce sufficient evidence, and the atmosphere became deadlocked.

Half a minute later, Qi Mi chuckled twice and withdrew his hand. "It seems that everyone is already convinced that Liang Hui was wrongly accused, which is why they are trying so hard to find another murderer... But perhaps you have ever thought about what if Liang Hui was wrong?"

Everyone's heart skipped a beat.

"We've been led by Liang Hui from the beginning, and we've subconsciously assumed that everything he says is right. But what if this proposition was wrong from the beginning? Liang Hui might be the murderer back then, and he's just looking for a scapegoat, or maybe he's trying to destroy our relationship. Is that even a possibility?"

Qi Mi sneered at them, "After all, it's not uncommon for ghosts to do whatever they want."

The room was quiet again.

I don't know if it was just everyone's imagination, but after Qi Mi finished speaking, the atmosphere seemed to grow even colder. The remaining six burning candles were no longer able to illuminate the entire space, and could only barely capture the seven people's strange expressions.

Very weird.

Qi Mi turned the white paper over, facing everyone with a blank piece of paper, ready to start sorting out his thoughts from the beginning.

He took a pen and wrote Liang Hui's name on a piece of white paper, with "Guilty" written on the left and "Not Guilty" on the right. He said seriously, "Should we start with this initial proposition and analyze whether Liang Hui actually killed someone?"

Seeing that everyone was looking around in fear and didn't dare to answer, Qi Mi curled his lips slightly and said, "If we can deduce that Liang Hui was the one who killed him, it would be considered as convincing his ghost. I think he shouldn't hurt us because of this, right?"

Half a minute later, a word appeared on a mirror in the corner of the wall——

yes.
