Chapter 17: I have food to eat! And I get paid! What a wonderful life!

The weather is very good today. It is not snowing and the sun is hanging in the sky. It is warm and makes people feel comfortable all over.

The residents of Alicante got up early in the morning, packed their things and prepared to try their luck in the nearby Misty Forest. Little Brandon dragged a basket and prepared to leave the city with his two brothers and sisters.

When I walked to the city gate, I suddenly saw a lot of people gathered around the bulletin board.

This morning, the knights of the City Lord's Mansion posted a notice on this clean bulletin board, and everyone's faces looked a little ugly.

Little Brandon stood at the back of the crowd, tilting his head to look at them. Then he shoved the basket at his silly brother, who was so dazed and snotty that he didn't even know how to suck his nose, and quickly got into the crowd, "Make way! Make way!"

"Why are you pushing me? Can you read, little brat?!"

As soon as the fat aunt Lina caught little Brandon, she started scolding him. The little girl squeezed in with all her strength and almost made Lina fall.

Little Brandon put his hands on his hips, showing off his impressive spirit despite his young age. "Aunt Lina! I don't understand. Do you think you can understand it?"

Lina was humiliated by a little kid and her face turned red with anger. She reached out to grab little Brandon.

Little Brandon dove in and out of the crowd like a loach, trying to prevent Lina from getting what she wanted, which drew laughter from the people around him.

Most of the residents of Alicante are illiterate, and they stand there with their hearts in turmoil.

You should know that the last notice issued from the City Lord's Mansion was the year before last, when the City Lord raised the tax rate.

That year, the population of Alicante dropped by thousands, causing them to become afraid of the notices issued by the City Lord's Mansion.

"Make way! Get out of the way! Old Tu is coming!"

Someone shouted from the outskirts of the crowd, and everyone stopped pushing and quickly made way for the skinny old man with a cane outside the crowd to come over.

Old Tutou is already in his teens this year. He is one of the few people in Alicante who can read. Whenever someone asks him to look at something, he feels quite proud. But when he hears that it is an announcement from the City Lord's Mansion, even Old Tutou's feet want to tremble.

He stood before the notice board, struggling to decipher the words on it. "Notice, City Lord's Mansion, collecting... every household, please..."

"What? You need to collect things again?"

The crowd erupted in excitement. "What's going on? Is the City Lord's Mansion planning to levy forced labor?"

"God of Light, the City Lord is also like this. When will our city of Alicante finally usher in true light?!"

"Is this not going to allow us to live?" Someone threw away the basket he was carrying, sat down on the ground and started crying.

Life is already so difficult, but the city lord still wants to exploit them. He wants them to die!

For a moment, sadness spread to the city gate. The residents of Alicante more or less covered their faces and cried, and some even cried loudly.

Suddenly, an oxcart slowly drove down the street. The young man on the cart squinted his eyes and looked towards the city gate, wondering why so many people were gathered there. "What are you all doing here, Bert? Let me take a look."

Bert, the old dwarf who was driving the car, had a rolled-up cigarette in his mouth and his eyes half-closed as he nodded at Wallis.

Wallis squeezed into the crowd and walked towards the notice board. He looked up and glanced at the notice. "The City Lord's Mansion is hiring. Every household, whether children or adults, is welcome to come. The City Lord's Mansion will provide lunch every day, and those who work can earn a copper coin a day."

"What did you say?" The little Brandon, who was standing under the sign, had very sharp ears. When she heard the words "rice" and "copper coins", her eyes suddenly lit up and she quickly grabbed the corner of Wallis's clothes with her dirty little hands.

Wallis repeated what he had just said.

Now more people heard him speak, and everyone was a little bit incredulous, saying in unison, "Can you say what you just said again?"

So Wallis repeated what he had just said without getting tired of it.

"Is there such a good thing?" The residents of Alicante widened their eyes and discussed it head to head.

"Oh my God of Light, is this really what it says?" Another worried person grabbed Wallis.

"Yes, I swear to the God of Light, that's exactly what it says on the noticeboard. Oh, and it also says that the number of people needed is limited, and no more will be accepted."

Wallis squeezed in effortlessly, but it took some effort to get out of the crowd.

Well, after he said this, the crowd gathered here dispersed a lot, and little Brandon ran the fastest.

She inexplicably believed that what was written on the billboard was true, she wanted to!

There's food to eat! And money to earn! What a heavenly life!

But many residents of Alicante were still in a state of panic. They had had enough of oppression and couldn't even believe that such a good thing could happen.

Wallis got on the oxcart and repeated what he had just said to Bert, and at the end he sighed, "The conditions offered by this city lord are indeed very favorable."

"Yeah." Bert responded coldly and drove out of the city.

He had no interest in the few coppers, and when Wallis saw that he was not calm, she kept silent.

......

The entrance to the City Lord's Mansion was particularly busy today, and little Brandon's parents could hardly believe it.

"I'll take my sister and try it!" But little Brandon was a smart boy. He dragged his sister and rushed to the City Lord's Mansion.

Speaking of which, the two little girls who were running barefoot in the snow were actually the first to arrive at the City Lord's Mansion.

When I entered, Yager was standing at the door holding a sign to register.

"What's your name? How old are you? What skills do you have?" Yager asked in a serious manner, and he did not slack off even though there were two little girls in front of him.

"Brandon, eight years old, can chop wood, farm, cook, wash the floor, mop the floor, and do clothes." Little Brandon puffed out his chest.

"Elaine, ten years old, can chop wood, farm, cook, wash clothes, clean, and take care of children." Elaine is Brandon's sister. The two children stood hand in hand in front of the elegantly dressed Jacob, and they were inevitably a little timid.

Yager glanced at them coldly and waved behind him. A maid with a listless look came forward and led little Brandon and the other man into the room.

This maid couldn't control her own body, so Ivy, who had been cleaning all night, had just finished and was about to lie down on the bed to have a good rest when she was brought over by Yager.

"Jager! Remember what you did today, I will repay you double in the future!" Ivy gritted her teeth, and her voice was so loud that the two sisters Brandon could hear it clearly.

The two little girls looked at each other, not daring to say anything, and cautiously followed Ivy through the long and dark corridor. There was a warm light flickering in front of them, and little Brandon hurriedly rushed across the corridor with his sister.

After breaking through the darkness, the two arrived at the light.

When I looked up, I saw a woman in gorgeous clothes, with a graceful figure, like a god, standing in the sun.

It seemed that even the sunlight favored her.

Jiang Jin's long, shiny black hair sparkled with a faint golden light in the warm and comfortable sunlight. She looked up at Brandon and Elaine, and the two little girls paused for breath.
